I've contacted MNHQ, through what I am sure are the wrong lines of communication but never mind.

Have also told DD that Kate Green is up for a web chat too.

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 15:11

Ah, x-post, Jans Grin

BillSykesDog · 29/01/2016 15:21

It only takes one or two French people to attack you emily. But you're perfectly happy for refugees to apply that to French people as a whole and declare they can't possibly live amongst any French people.

But then this just gets back into the territory of you being a big ol' racist who had double standards entirely based on race.

Chipstick10 · 29/01/2016 15:22

Oh get off your high horse and how dare you tell me I should be ashamed of myself. Direct your anger elsewhere

MariscallRoad · 29/01/2016 15:28

By the Way
courser.org the free educational site has a FREE online course on migration called 'Latin American Migration' run by the University of Ohio (prestige) starting in future and lasting 6 weeks. www.coursera.org/course/latinmigration. Such courses are a benefit flexible and broaden discussions. You can visit the site and ask to be emailed when it starts. It has broad syllabus of 6 units starting with Transnational Migration. In our times it might come useful to read on this topic - you can just watch lectures of do more reading if you so wish. I love the site and I ve done 3 different courses already in the past 3 years. It is in English.

GraceKellysLeftArm · 29/01/2016 15:33

Surely "Latin American Migration" is quite different to what we're facing here? I know central and south america have massive crime rates and terrifying murder rates... but its culture (catholic? ) is not intent on wiping out the rest.

MariscallRoad · 29/01/2016 15:35

MariscallRoad · 29/01/2016 15:42

GraceKellysLeftArm, the course seems to contain broad and general background on migration and also move from from Latin America to USA - there is big migration from Mexico and perhaps one can see relevance somehow - some bits might be useful in looking the issues of Europe.

LongWayRound · 29/01/2016 15:47

There's also a free course from FutureLearn on Muslims in Britain: exploring diversity and challenging stereotypes. I haven't done it myself, so can't specifically recommend it, but it might be interesting.

MariscallRoad I'm doing a couple of Coursera courses right now and can't make up my mind whether it's worth doing the assignments, since I'm not interested in getting a certificate for either of them. What do you recommend?

seeThereWeAreThen · 29/01/2016 16:09

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Davies_(Welsh_politician)

I think the conservatives may like to keep David Davis as quiet as possible. From the Wikipedia page he is far from a wall flower.
Has challenged the government before about immigration and wants out of Europe, Also voted against gay marriage.

VertigoNun · 29/01/2016 16:13

Kate Green wanted to cover this and tge transwomen situations in the Olympics.

Really there seems a whole Emperors new clothes/gaslighting issue. There are clearly more than a couple of Men claiming to be children, taking spaces from genuine child refugees and being socialised with children a cp issue I would think it needs talking about. There is no need to be all far right only speaking as the rest are fearful of being called racist for debating this.

southernstar · 29/01/2016 16:34

Watch David Davies , totally brilliant and well done to him, said exactly what I would like to say. Then I looked round his audience, one guy was reading a map, who exactly is hearing or taking any notice there.
Still very pleased there are people willing to stand up and care for others .

MariscallRoad · 29/01/2016 16:45

LongWayRound I have gained statements of accomplishment only but did not pusruse a certificate. Some people want a certificate to show to employers self-motivation and commitment. Some people do the same courses in consecutive years so they repeat them because there is plenty of supplementary reading worth doing.

southernstar · 29/01/2016 17:01

Not sure if anyone has mentioned or seen , but David Davies has put a tweet out with petition link

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 17:14

Also voted against gay marriage.
David D sinks in my estimation...

Palebluedotty · 29/01/2016 17:20

Men posing as minors was reported as in issue in Denmark back in June: 203 out of 282 medically tested were assessed as above 18.

www.thelocal.dk/20150622/refugee-children-in-denmark-found-to-be-adults

Whatever the situation the person lying about their age has come from, unaccompanied minors are housed separately for a reason. Except they haven't been.

Wordsaremything · 29/01/2016 17:28

Yes I had a bit of a sink when I saw that Lumie - but for our purposes now, he is the only politician so far of any persuasion who has spoken out and with some passion. He's promoting the petition also. No doubt it will support his anti Eu stance, but , well what then? Labour have been silent or embarrassingly ill informed.

Those old left/right certainties are looking ever more shaky aren't they! This whole issue has profoundly affected many of my beliefs - or rather, made me question more closely what some of my lazy, cosy, smug assumptions were and what the logical consequences of those assumptions are.

I'm tribe-less now. I'm broadly of the left on most but not all things. I no longer buy The Guardian. I'm a wiser, I think, but also sadder, and rather frightened old glimmer.

venusinscorpio · 29/01/2016 17:45

Vertigo

Really there seems a whole Emperors new clothes/gaslighting issue.

Yes. Do you happen to know what stance Kate Green takes towards both issues? I would welcome a web chat whatever her position though. The more open talking the better as far as I'm concerned.

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 17:48

I know, Words... I'm seriously considering voting 'out' when the time comes.

If I could do a hashtag thingy on this laptop, I'd do one, but it'll just have to be in bold:
glumglimmer

januarybrown1998 · 29/01/2016 17:51

Take heart, gimmers.

DD did say he absolutely defended the right of gay men to go out for a quiet pint - see the clip.

Wordsaremything · 29/01/2016 17:57

lumie We can be founder members of this:

#glumglimmersguild

One tribe fades away, another rises up to take its place....

Anyone else like to join ( but maybe on a separate thread!)

Sorry for derail !

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 17:59

Has anyone posted this link yet?
Guardian on Jess Phillips?

And the article says this:
About 100 complaints were made to police, two-thirds of which were linked to sexual assault, including two rapes.
Where have they been for the past couple of weeks. Not reading the news out of Germany, that's for bloody sure. That's such appallingly bad reporting - either idle or deceitful, neither of which is a good look for a newspaper.

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 18:01

Yeah, Jans, is glimmers not gimmers. Tsk.
And you're right, he did mention gays being entitled to a quiet pint like anyone else.

glumglimmersguild - I'm up for it, Words!
