incredible, this is Sweden we are talking about a country known for

Olivepip59 · 11/01/2016 23:51

Sonya there are worrying reasons they did not complain; it has almost become a crime to do so in Sweden.

I posted about this last year sometime, possibly with a different user name (obviously I got shat on for my massive racist neckiness) and may have even had a link.

I'll look tomorrow.

Sleep tight all.

venusinscorpio · 11/01/2016 23:52

Lots of Guardian type articles...

And people like Twisted.

polentapies · 11/01/2016 23:52

Venus, honestly, it's like sticking your head in a spin dryer.

The 'PC[ solution would be NLP sessions or extensive Talking therapies. Or perhaps Convulsive Shock Therapy, bit controversial yes... ?

Personally, I would attach their knobs to a car battery.

Pinkchampchoccies · 11/01/2016 23:53

May I ask again, what would be the take of an organisation sun as Amnesty International be on these events? Would they support the racist narrative or women's rights?

WildeWoman · 11/01/2016 23:56

I hope you don't mind me posting a poem by an Irish man. The last stanza has been something I have lived by most of my life (coming from a farming background myself). It's not everyone's idea of poetry, but even if you disengage with the first few lines, just read the last few. As women, our voice now is the pen (the written word). Let's use it.

Digging
By Seamus Heaney

Between my finger and my thumb

The squat pen rests; snug as a gun.

Under my window, a clean rasping sound

When the spade sinks into gravelly ground:

My father, digging. I look down

Till his straining rump among the flowerbeds

Bends low, comes up twenty years away

Stooping in rhythm through potato drills

Where he was digging.

The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft

Against the inside knee was levered firmly.
He rooted out tall tops, buried the bright edge deep
To scatter new potatoes that we picked,
Loving their cool hardness in our hands.

By God, the old man could handle a spade.

Just like his old man.

My grandfather cut more turf in a day
Than any other man on Toner’s bog.
Once I carried him milk in a bottle
Corked sloppily with paper. He straightened up
To drink it, then fell to right away
Nicking and slicing neatly, heaving sods
Over his shoulder, going down and down
For the good turf. Digging.

The cold smell of potato mould, the squelch and slap
Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of an edge
Through living roots awaken in my head.
But I’ve no spade to follow men like them.

Between my finger and my thumb
The squat pen rests.
I’ll dig with it.

The idea makes me incredibly angry. How dare they sell women down the river like that. We are always, always last in the queue, because we can be intimidated, silenced and dismissed. So no, I won't waste one iota of my sympathy or compassion on men who choose to get power by abusing women.

WildeWoman · 11/01/2016 23:57

haha - I'm with you on the knob and a car battery solution!

venusinscorpio · 11/01/2016 23:59

I doubt she'd go for the shock therapy. I suspect your first suggestions might be right, but it might get a bit too blamey? She'd definitely take a no-blame approach.

WildeWoman · 12/01/2016 00:00

Venus - we won't be the last in the queue for much longer. These bastards have taken things too far.

polentapies · 12/01/2016 00:02

I love that poem Wilde. Thanks for that

MistressMia · 12/01/2016 00:02

I've cross posted with ipost.

Fundamentally we are at opposite poles. You're resorting solely to reactionary measures as you state:

Forget any idea about educating people. Accept the reality that lots of people tend to hold on tight to their most important beliefs

I disagree. The ex-muslim community is growing fast judging by internet activity and now contains some real ex-hard liners. Salafists and others who were so extreme they were ready to die for their cause.

I agree we need to do all of those things you've stated in your post, but we cannot do all of that indefinitely and just live with trying to contain this new reality.

We must push /encourage an Enlightenment / reform / awakening, call it what you will.

WildeWoman · 12/01/2016 00:03

Ladies - take hope in the fact that the QUEEN of England is a woman.

Can you imagine how that gauls these fuckers?

I'm putting 'must write to the queen' on my TO-DO LIST! lol

That is one lady who I would not mess with if she takes on a cause!

hiddenhome2 · 12/01/2016 00:08

MistressMia what is it that makes them come to their senses?

WildeWoman · 12/01/2016 00:09

How does one find the address for the Queen?

OP posts:
hiddenhome2 · 12/01/2016 00:14

I don't think the queen has any actual power though Sad

WildeWoman · 12/01/2016 00:14

MistressMia - I posted on thread 3 I think, about a discussion I had with a Muslim guy last night. He is a very educated guy. His English is very good. I suspect he was educated in British schools. He is from India.
He is now 'anti' Islam. Not what he said exactly. He said he is now part of a group of ex-Muslims.

If you don't have that sort of upbringing to start with, I can not imagine a few years here changing you.

Do you get what I'm saying?

WildeWoman · 12/01/2016 00:15

hiddenhome - did you say that the queen has no power?

I'll tell her that haha. That'll surely rile her into action!

VertigoNun · 12/01/2016 00:15

Can you imagine QEII reminding Dave she heads the WI? Grin

OP posts:
hiddenhome2 · 12/01/2016 00:15

She doesn't though lol. Not political power anyway Grin

hiddenhome2 · 12/01/2016 00:16

And she wears a headscarf Wink

Grin

Can you hold please?
