Hello all

George Osborne will set out the government's spending plans in the Autumn Statement and Spending Review at 12.30pm today. It's the first since the Conservatives were elected, and Osbourne looks set to announce the detail of £20bn of cuts to departmental budgets, and £12bn cuts to welfare. He'll promise £7bn for new housebuilding, and will also announce plans to mitigate the effects of tax credit cuts, after the government's original measures were blocked by the House of Lords last month.

Me too - I'm dreading it - already the news that he is giving millions to property companies to build housing for lower incomes (Joint £90k in London!!!!!) is already making my blood boil

I'm dreading it but need to watch so I can figure out how it will affect my work and the charities I work for. Some of the rumoured changes will have a big impact on the amount of work I have.

So does this mean that tax credits will stay? They don't have a clue what they are doing about UC, the people working on it haven't a clue what they are doing.

No tax credit cuts but arnt those eligible supposed to be on Universal credit in 2017 anyway so the lower payments could just be whacked into those calculations anyway

Yes - tax credits cuts (the decrease in theshold and increase to the taper etc) will not happen this time around.

The other changes - limiting the child element in Tax Credits and Universal Credit to two children and abolishing the Family Element in Tax Credits for new claims - are being done in a different way and presumably will still happen.
