It's like a car crash - I can't look away.

I am reading more and more in the build-up to the Paris talks at the end of the year. China has surprised everyone with a bigger pledge than expected. But will it be enough? What about the US? They ignored the Kyoto Protocol. Obama is in the news today talking about melting ice in Alaska - yet gave Shell the go-ahead to drill in the Arctic.

I am genuinely terrified of what will happen if the world does not act fast.

The climate on Earth has changed from Tropical to Ice Age and back again many over times over during its existence, long before human activity could have played a role and there is nothing human beings can do to change it.

US emissions are currently about 15% lower than in 1990, better than Kyoto, mainly due to fracking.

EU emissions are higher than 1990, although most have been exported overseas to low wage countries.

As of 2 weeks ago there is 452,000 square miles more ice at the Artic than 3 years ago.

Life is better now than before and continues to be so.

I am not terrified.

'Climate change 'exaggerated' in government adverts

Two government press adverts which used nursery rhymes to raise awareness of climate change have been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

It said the advertisements went beyond mainstream scientific consensus in asserting that climate change would cause flooding and drought.

A total of 939 people complained to the ASA about the "Act on CO2" campaign.

It's a bit like "nudge technology", behavioral psychology, to get you to go along by selling the message hard. The great and the good still use the time-honoured method of "scaring the bejeesus". But even with all of their media resources, huge numbers of ordinary people don't follow the script and believe what the great and the good say.

The video has been taken down from 10:10's website, but thanks to the nature of the internet it shall live on in tasteless glory forever more."

The world has definitely heated up and cooled down over thousands and millions of years. That's true. But never as fast as this.

I'm also very concerned. I don't think most people want to engage with it because the possible outcomes are just so frightening. Like many of us I have kids, I don't want to see them fighting wars over resources 30 or 40 years down the track. It's only this year - hottest month on record, forest fires, floods - that I think the tide is starting to turn. I hope it's not too late.
