Guardian live updates

Always thought they were completely innocent and often argued their case on here.

Feel very sorry for the Kercher family who have been dragged through years of shit.

Shame that Guede will be out soon.

I always thought they were innocent too. The whole thing has been an utter farce.

Fevertree · 27/03/2015 22:02

Good, i'm so glad!

sanfairyanne · 27/03/2015 22:03

good
finally!

PacificDogwood · 27/03/2015 22:04

Tbh, I have no idea what to think Confused

But yes, that poor Kercher family - horrific enough to have lost their daughter, but to have no resolution? Awful.

AnnieMoor · 27/03/2015 22:05

Me too. Very pleased to hear this.

Nerf · 27/03/2015 22:07

Just saw that. I always felt they knew more than they'd let on initially, didn't say anything in case they got in trouble so came across as guilty when they hadn't actually killed her.
Am quite surprised tbh I thought it would be upheld.

Costacoffeeplease · 27/03/2015 22:12

I thought it would be upheld too

expatinscotland · 27/03/2015 22:14

Poor Kerchers.

DuelingFanjo · 27/03/2015 22:14

I thought so too, only because I didn't think the court would want to lose face.

There was no evidence to convict though.

The Kerchers wanted some kind of resolution, I hope they have it but the farce of the last few years can not have been easy.

There's is already someone serving a sentence for murder though so in a sense there is a resolution?

Floraclare · 27/03/2015 22:22

Finally justice done - but feel so sorry for the Kercher family, who have been put through so many years of hell due to this farce of a trial. Hopefully they can now find some peace and begin to accept that it was Rudy Guede alone

GrouchyKiwi · 27/03/2015 22:28

Glad it was overturned. The Italian legal system is crazy.

Hope the Kerchers can find some peace. These ongoing court cases won't have helped.

DuelingFanjo · 27/03/2015 22:31

The problem for the Kerchers will be the presecution's insistence that there was definitely evidence of more than one person being involved in the murder. If this is true, and it wasn't Knox or Sollecito, then who was it and can they ever be found. Plus Guede is serving a very short term for what he did.

Yes, at least this draws a line under it all for Meredith's family, & the other 2 can get on with their lives now but honestly, what a circus its been & how painful for all concerned Sad

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 27/03/2015 22:33

That prosecution case was always based on the fantasy of one man, wasn't it? (Can't remember his name but he seemed a complete loon Hmm)

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 27/03/2015 22:35

Mignini

PacificDogwood · 27/03/2015 22:37

Guede's sentence was quite low for the crime though, wasn't it?

The whole thing has been a farce IMO.

I do think the Kercher family have been dignified and will continue to be so. They will no doubt accept the judgement but they will probably highlight the question 'so who was the other person or persons' when they make a statement tomorrow.

I do wonder if they ever really believed, on the evidence provided, that Knox and Sollecito were guilty though.

Viviennemary · 27/03/2015 22:53

It's been a very strange case. It's a pity they still have got to the whole truth of what happened.

JillyR2015 · 27/03/2015 22:53

I always thought they were innocent so I'm pleased.

Samcro · 27/03/2015 23:05

so very sad for the victims family

EmEyeFaive · 27/03/2015 23:40

Guede's sentence was quite low for the crime though, wasn't it?

No it wasn't. There was at least a third reduction for taking the fast track route through the court system.

A young man where I live just got convicted for killing his girlfriend, I think he went for the normal (not fast track) route and he got 16 years. Compared to that Guede got a harsh sentence, presumably it was higher becuase of aggravating factors when comparing the two murder.

CaffeLatteIceCream · 28/03/2015 00:10

It's a pity they haven't got to the whole truth of what happened

They have.

Rudy Guede raped and murdered Meredith when she interrupted him during a burglary. The evidence for that is overwhelming.

The prosecution can say as often as they like that "there's evidence of other people's involvement" but that doesn't make it true.

They presented precisely no evidence of these fictional "others" and had to rely on "one person could not have done it alone". Yes they could, and did.

It has been as clear as day right from the beginning that AK and RS are entirely and totally innocent. This is good news and I am happy for them. I hope they can get on with their lives now.

LoonyToonie · 28/03/2015 07:32

I don't know why I feel so much doubt over this - Amanda Knox's behaviour in press conferences doesn't strike me as genuine or heartfelt. I really don't know what to think.
