Poor wee girl. RIP.
May she be in a better place.
What monsters her mother and her mother's friend were.
They got manslaughter- beggars belief.
Where was her father? Her relations ? Her teachers ? The other neighbours ?
Had she other wee friends ? If she had did their Mum's notice anything?
She was let down by them all.
When you read cases like this you can understand why Stephen Fry holds the view on God that he does.

I've just read an article about the father weeping at the court case and paying tribute to how wonderful she was and it was her mother's job to protect her, which is true of course, but I don't understand, why wasn't it also his job? Was he in her life and if so, surely he'd have noticed a change in her.

This news makes me horribly sad. It's hard to believe that no one in this girl's life suspected anything. Or, worse still, that they did and did nothing. Poor, poor little girl. RIPThanks

This breaks my heart, it's just so awful. There are so many questions though, did she not go to school? Either way something should have been flagged up surely?

I just find it extraordinary in this day and age ( with all the awful cases preceding this one ) that lessons weren't learned and nobody noticed.
Heartbreaking.
Poor little girl.

Heartbreaking case. But why did the father not notice something was wrong or her teachers? She was badly let down by all the adults in her life. Her mother surely must have had mental health issues?

I did a safeguarding course and I can only surmise that she was invisible to any adult other than those evil bitches

why did her teacher not notice her sadness?
did her friend not say anything to their mummies and daddies? she was 8- where was her voice
what about the parents on the school run
neighbours?

and last but not least- what kind of acess did her father have? I dont want to judge him, as he is clearly berefit and maybe he had custody issues. BUT.....

This makes me ANGRY such a waste and her essays made me cry

She diede in August. The police statement said the abuse persisted over 6 mmonths 'and in the summer became physical'. That means the period during which there were outward physical signs of abuse was probably pretty short, and possibly mostly in the school holidays. That might well explain why no one noticed.

Sadly, the little girl probably still loved and felt loyal to her mother and may not have told anyone what was being done to her as aresult of that and, simply, of being confused and frightened.

box why assume mental health issues? no,she doesn't appear to have had any.....neither woman did. mothers can be abusive monsters just as much as a father can be

26point, I don't agree that some people are just abusive monsters. They were not born that way. They must have been severely damaged in their own childhood to go on to treat a child the way this girl was treated. I cannot believe that a mentally healthy balanced parent could or would do this to their own child.

Not all psychopaths are survivors of child abuse. Genetics and conditions in the womb probably play a role as well.

We'll both women have today been sentenced ... In prison, not psych care. So I'm guessing psych assessments ruled out MH illness in this pair!

The physical abuse started at the beginning of the school summer holidays and she died at the end of them.

I remember the Victoria Climbie case where the little girl had been sent from the Ivory Coast to live with an aunt in the UK in a private fostering arrangement. The aunt and her boyfriend had abused the child to death and the girl's mother appeared on tv saying how she had been failed by social services. This was the mother who had sent her child off to live with an abusive woman in another country for months on end and basically abandoned her to her fate. Angry

How awful. I think they should have got murder rather than child abuse.

Can't believe that the friend of the lesbian lover recorded conversations where she said she was going to kill Ayesha then failed to report that information. One visit from social services could have saved that girls life.

So incredibly sad. I just can't imagine how a mother could turn on her child like this.

From the details I read in the paper I am disgusted they were found guilty of manslaughter only and not murder. As far as I can see there was a very clear case for a murder verdict for the mother's girlfriend, at the very least.

In fairness to Mrs Climbie, private fostering arrangements with extended family members are normal in West Africa, very normal, esp where it is thought the child will benefit from eg a better education. Very very sad.

The sentences are beyond a joke and a complete insult to the life of the little girl. The facts of the case are completely sickening. Apparently, the mother only realised that she had been sexually groomed after her daughter was dead. The video showing that disgusting monster going out to purchase a new shower head bc she had battered the little girl with the old one and broken it was too much really. I burst into tears at the computer. I think there is a new devt in internet grooming of adults rather than children which needs a lot more attention.

Sunny Maybe so, but either the mother didn't know the great aunt well enough to know whether she would be in safe hands, in which case why did she hand over her daughter to her, or she did know her well enough to know she would not be safe with her but still sent her there.
