charliecat · 20/10/2006 17:48

My mum reads it, shes racist homophobic and generally awful, and she doesnt even realise it.
I do tell her, but im in the wrong. The mail says.....

nailpolish · 20/10/2006 17:48

my mum reads it

saves the coupons for the dream house TOO

i have no idea why, to (try to) answer your question

i did ask her once and she said "the news is all the same, and i like the womens articles" LOL

GeorginaA · 20/10/2006 17:48

Quote from my mum: "it fits on the table and the print doesn't come off on my hands" ...

rolls eyes

Spidermama · 20/10/2006 17:52

Because they feel it represents their views more closely than other papers.

I used to work next to someone who read the DM, so I read it for ages and ages (it was free). God it's an offensive paper, really misogynist. Very sniffy about other papers' "page 3 girls", but often running a photo of someone in a bikini on page 3 themselves, with some tangential news story attached ...

NotQuiteCockney · 20/10/2006 17:55

Oh, and I have no idea why my workmate bought the DM, he was a bit strange.

SamhainWitch · 20/10/2006 17:56

JT is a Mail reader.

A very intelligent, lovely woman who I have great respect for.

Yet another generalisation blown out of the water.

PretendFriend · 20/10/2006 18:06

There is a feature in Femail on the website atm headed "when did you last make love?", with accounts of the recent sex lives of various individuals, and alongside it is a very nice posed picture of the woman in the first account, captioned "Demelza Hussey had sex last Saturday"

  • her parents must be so proud.

The whole piece is buttock-clenchingly embarrassing in fact. Yeuch. Why does the Mail do features like this and why does anybody volunteer for them? Are they all exhibitionists?

PeachyBobbingParty · 20/10/2006 18:07

Dunno

you can get the same drivel on teletext letters page, and that's free LOL

PretendFriend · 20/10/2006 18:08

(I would have linked to it but the Mail seems to have fixed it so that you can't use their URLs for links. Unless it's just me )

SamhainWitch · 20/10/2006 18:10

Just you PretendFriend

Greensleeves · 20/10/2006 18:11

I like JT too, but she'd be the first to admit she votes Tory

Damn!!!

(It's those pesky underlines )

soapbox · 20/10/2006 18:18

I hate myself for it but I always love it when I find one on the bus in the morning

It is so funny particularly if you view it in an ironic way

It's like most things in life though - dangerous if you take them completely at face value

ROFL @ Demelza Hussey - I thought you made that up, PretendFriend

My MIL is a Daily Mail reader. Coincidentally (not), she wasn't too chuffed when little BIL had a Muslim girlfriend.

I always feel vaguely soiled if I happen to catch sight of a DM article

WaitingForGodKnows · 20/10/2006 18:25

My parents are DM readers. I still like 'em. I just don't agree with them very often

I could get mad and ranty about the Daily Wail, but life's too short. Suffice to say I agree with whomever it was who said 'There is no more depressing sight than sitting down on the Tube opposite someone gorgeous, making eye contact - and watching them get the DM out of their bag.'

soapbox · 20/10/2006 18:25

Last night Fio

UCM · 20/10/2006 19:18

Because Twig, if everyone read the Guardian, there wouldn't be anyone to come on MN with their opposing views
