A new thread following on from the previous one in Chat here

OP posts:
KnittedJimmyChoos · 17/08/2014 15:56

I thought the Simon article was very promising too. very promising.

scandip · 17/08/2014 17:58

Kissmyheathen, I think action is needed too. If lots of people marched or did what you suggested it would make an impact.

I find the delay in Butler Sloss's replacement weird.

I am so glad to see this thread though. It makes me feel less mad as I feel my view of the world is so different now.

creekyknees · 17/08/2014 21:26

I'm not sure if anyone is watching channel 553 about Jimmy Savile but its definitely asking far better questions than BBC and ITV have done so far.

thenightsky · 17/08/2014 21:28

DH is watching house of cards. What is the name of the prog on JS creeky? I'll try to find it on-line.

thenightsky · 17/08/2014 21:29

Oh... and did anyone see Michael Parkinson on the national news earlier (just a short clip) defending CR to the hilt?

creekyknees · 17/08/2014 21:32

Crimes that shook Britain. Hopefully they have a plus 1.

Its whacking up pics of the Royals and Thatcher!

LumpySpacedPrincess · 18/08/2014 16:46

I've just waded through both threads and want to say a big thank you to everyone who has posted. It's distressing to read but it soon becomes glaringly obvious that pedophilia is endemic in parts of our society. It's like the establisment have chosen to live in a completely depraved way that treats our children as throwaway toys.

When you see how obvious misogyny and objectification of women is in our society and how little that is challenged. When you think of the poor conviction rate for rape. All these things are vile and are accepted every day and are out in the open. Therefore, I'm not surprised that those in power are pushing the boundaries even more, and being protected by the system.

It makes you feel like you are living in ancient Rome. Sad

KnittedJimmyChoos · 19/08/2014 20:16

Lumpy, reading the threads surely tells you its not just the establishment thats at it>? Its everywhere.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 20/08/2014 08:47

I know that KnittedJimmyChoos, from first hand experience. Sorry if that didn't come across in my post. What I mean is that some people in power, with all the access and protection that offers, are using that advantage to commit hideous crimes which are being blatantly covered up.

In the small town I grew up in there was the teacher, the sweet shop owner, the uncle...the list goes on. They were all protected in there way, nothing was ever done about them to this day, and not because people didn't "tell"

I know far to many people who have been damaged by abuse then not believed or told not to make a fuss when they do tell. Every single one of them has experienced terrible problems in adult life.

What I tried, inarticulately, to say was that this stems from treating people as objects. Women are de humanised and treated as pieces of meat to be compared and all of society is complicit. Therefore any object of a privileged persons desire is an object for them to enjoy.

By privileged that is pretty much any male in society.

Yes, I do know its "not all men" but men are empowered in our society and there sexual needs are something the rest of society must serve up, at whatever cost.

GarlicAugustus · 20/08/2014 19:50

Evening bump.

What you've broached there, Lumpy, is an absolutely massive concept and I think it goes much further as well. It seems certain that patriarchal power is the root of it all, yes - even when women are involved, and of course NAMALT. In a way, we're looking at the predatory underbelly of implicit male privilege. But ... We have a better chance of weakening one of its tentacles than knocking out the whole thing. I would hope that, if we collectively persist until the CSA 'tentacle' loses strength, it might just be a little easier to renegotiate the terms of engagement.

Sorry for mixed metaphors and unclear writing. I'm tired.

TheAmyrlin · 20/08/2014 23:50

Another one reading here.
It's only through reading this (and the previous thread) that I found out about Cliff Richard, so wasnt surprised when his home was searched.

I'm reading the links a little at a time- it's just all so horrible. What is wrong with these people??

And yes, agree with several PPs that MNHQ should be running a campaign. This can't be swept under the carpet again.

rumtumtugger · 21/08/2014 08:04

Still reading. Has any replacement for Butler Sloss been announced yet? If not, why not?? How do we get Teresa May to comment on this?

WhistlingPot · 21/08/2014 21:49

It does seem to have gone very quiet rumtumtugger.

Not sure if already mentioned but this will be an interesting development to follow from across the water:

Billionaire-sex-abuser-Jeffrey-Epstein-could-face-more-charges-after-alleged-victims-win-legal-victory

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Epstein:

Instead of following the recommendation of the police, the prosecutors considered the evidence weak[26] and presented it to a grand jury, an uncommon procedure in non-capital cases. Former chief of Palm Beach police Michael Reiter later wrote to State Attorney Barry Krischer to complain of the state's "highly unusual" conduct and asked him to remove himself from the case.[10] The grand jury returned only a single charge of felony solicitation of prostitution,[28] to which Epstein pleaded not guilty in August 2006.[27]

In June 2008, after pleading to a single state charge of soliciting prostitution, Epstein began serving an 18-month sentence. He served 13 months in jail of his 18-month sentence as a convicted sex offender in the state of Florida for soliciting an underage girl for prostitution. He is a registered sex offender.[3][29][30]

After the accusations became public, several parties returned donations they had received from Epstein, including Eliot L. Spitzer, Mark A. Green, Bill Richardson,[13] and the Palm Beach Police Department.[25] Harvard announced that it would not return any money.[13]

On June 18, 2010, Epstein's former butler, Alfredo Rodriguez, was sentenced to 18 months in jail for trying to sell a journal that he said recorded Epstein's activities. Special Agent Christina Pryor reviewed the material and agreed it was information "that would have been extremely useful in investigating and prosecuting the case, including names and contact information of material witnesses and additional victims."

Accusers Of Investor Jeffrey Epstein Press To Reopen Sex Abuse Case

I wonder if we will see the Royals distancing themselves.

GarlicAugustus · 22/08/2014 00:05

Golly, Whistling, that is an interesting story! Too many twists & turns for one post, but I just had to Hmm Hmm about this: "Some of the girls were introduced to him by Ghislaine Maxwell, his friend and the daughter of the late media tycoon Robert Maxwell, who allegedly told them they should give him a massage. Most were paid about $200 (£119). There is no suggestion she was aware of his sexual interest in underage girls."

No suggestion at all! She just happened to know he'd appreciate gifts of massages by young teenagers. Well, doesn't everybody?

WhistlingPot · 22/08/2014 00:25

Yes Garlic. You couldn't write the script.

GarlicAugustus · 22/08/2014 01:41

How the 0.1% live Confused
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1363444/Jeffrey-Epstein-Robert-Maxwells-daughter-Ghislaine-hired-girls-paedophile.html
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2597308/The-bombshell-court-document-claims-Prince-Andrew-knew-billionaire-friends-abuse-age-girls.html

The girl's story of how she & Prince Andrew were posed for the photo, then left alone together, reminds me of what one of the X-witnesses said about photos with the men she'd been told to 'seduce'. There's no suggestion Andrew did the business, but something of an implication he was expected to. He very belatedly cut links with Epstein, but is still best friends with Maxwell.

KeeperOfBees · 22/08/2014 02:35

I am normally a bubbly person, but since reading the the CR/these 'ere pedophile thread I can hardly raise a smile. I feel so weighed down with guilt that I'm not doing more to help these victims of abuse.

GarlicAugustus · 22/08/2014 10:45

It's horribly depressing as it sinks in, isn't it, Bees - I kept going around looking at men & thinking "Is he? Is he?" I'm still balancing that off, for my own sanity, by making sure I pay attention to good people, send Simon Danczuk messages of support, and keep trying to get the issue into the public consciousness!

Looking back over my own (weird) past, I'm sad about the many times I've bleated a bit then turned the other way. I've got to forgive myself: it's not my fault I was ignored, and I really didn't know how prolific child abusers tend to be. Neither did I understand that it all revolves around mutual blackmail. I really want everyone to grasp this now!

We've got the internet this time. There could be more hope Flowers

KeeperOfBees · 22/08/2014 10:53

YY Garlic I also find myself eyeing everyone cautiously.

Come on mumsnet, let's not be seen to be part of the silence. This website has a solid reputation for speaking it's mind

noddyholder · 22/08/2014 11:25

Tbh I really think the proximity of all of this to the RF is what has kept it under wraps for so long.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 22/08/2014 11:39

When you become more informed you can see how in certain circles it has been cultivated. You start to join the dots and the picture that emerges is sickening.

We do need to grasp this nettle with both hands.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 22/08/2014 12:27

Come on mumsnet, let's not be seen to be part of the silence. This website has a solid reputation for speaking it's mind

Does it?

I am afraid MN is not going to be the platform for this.

Is there another central charity, body we can get behind?

JetcatisBack · 22/08/2014 12:46

I have signed the petition, and read the thread and it's updates - thank you to all for keeping it going Thanks
I am finding it incredibly difficult though, I was abused in the care system for most of my childhood over thirty years ago, and witnessed some awful things. It absolutely horrifies me that children today may be going through the same thing, and much, much worse.

I really hope and pray that a full investigation is carried out, but my own personal experiences of cover ups sadly make it very hard to believe that it will be. Sad

GarlicAugustus · 22/08/2014 13:12

Oh, Jetcat :( It must be taking some strength to read the threads ... I'm very glad you are, though, first-hand experiences help (I hope & pray!) to cut through fear and denial.
