Basically woman driving £££ Audi 4x4 tank around Richmond, with children in the back, has argument with autistic cyclist, and drives her car at him in attempt to kill or seriously injure. Succeeds only in demolishing the front of the hair salon.

Hopefully she gets an appropriate sentence commensurate with using a deadly weapon. Doubt it though.

Finding it pretty funny that as always, a bunch of do-gooders (let me guess - mothers of autistic sons?

You mean people who might actually be able to understand why an autistic man may be unable to control his temper?

Yes, how very dare we mention that. Let us remember that this was NOT a violent, angry man squaring up to a woman & her children face to face. There was a car in the way. A car that the woman was perfectly able to drive away in a non-threatening manner had she chosen to.

So:
Male threats against women
Adult (male) threats against children
Do-gooders
Mothers of disabled children
defensive 4x4 drivers
prejudiced non-4x4 drivers (probably seething with jealousy)
an autistic man
the pros and cons of disabled people labelling themselves
women drivers
road rage
white van men
child safety in cars
Speculating on news stories

There must be some sort of thread award?

Could MNHQ invite Detectives from Kingston CID for a webchat?

CalamitouslyWrong · 11/06/2014 15:54

If she'd crashed into a nursery (of the daycare for working parents sort), we could add frothing about WOHM vs SAHM and the merits of different forms of childcare to the flashpoints.

Fideliney · 11/06/2014 15:54

rina I doubt he kicked a car for no reason, or indeed a moving car. (It is also unusual for someone with such a diagnosis to be moved to aggression.)

We can only speculate on what led up to someone being upset enough to kick a car. Or indeed as to her motivation for stopping the car.

You do sound rather silly. Do you have some kind of a grudge against people with autism?

No ones said at all he is absolved of any responsibility on the basis of his disability!!

Would it explain some of his behaviour- most likely?

Could he have been a twat regardless?- possibly

The fact remains that she should have had some patience if it was a misunderstanding. She may have upset him without intention and the autism would explain that.

Should she have said to herself "I shouldn't bother getting angry here I need to focus on keeping myself and my kids safe and drive away as my car could cause untold damage should I loose concentration or continue fighting whilst driving" -abso bloody lutely!!

TillyTellTale · 11/06/2014 16:00

It seems quite black and white to me.

You do not ever deliberately drive into a cyclist or a pedestrian, even if they're being an arse to you.

Next up in coming issues of Tilly's Rules To Live By:
Stabbing people: it's actually illegal;
Patios, and why you can't really hide your ex's body under there.

Fideliney · 11/06/2014 16:01

Oh Tilly you're just being silly now. You'll have us all dressing for dinner next.

FiveFingerDeathPunch · 11/06/2014 16:05

i hope the man on the bike is ok,
sounds like she needs help to control her temper.
think of the children

CharmQuark · 11/06/2014 16:06

I too doubt he kicked the car for no reason.

A man once whacked the roof of my car with a rolled up newspaper.

Due to bad anticipation of slow moving traffic I was stationary on the pedestrian crossing when the green man came on.

I didn't feel threatened by male violence.

I was driving a cheap crappy second hand hatch back.

I thought 'fair enough, mate, Sorry!'

I have just had a thought.

Perhaps the Audi driver is a MN-er?

lljkk · 11/06/2014 16:16

I witnessed a rode rage incident where motorist forced a cyclist off the road (totally unjustified). I don't know what it is about driving that brings the worst intolerance out in people.

I guess I don't understand why his disability is relevant because her response is so outrageous, and his small badge may not have been sufficient to have been a factor in any part of her response. Plenty of NT ppl would be just as put off of cycling ever again, too. I hope he isn't put off. Police will have to sort it out.

Hmm
TillyTellTale · 11/06/2014 16:22

Is someone kicking a car a threat? I've always interpreted it as an actual attempt to damage the car. It's not a threat to damage the car, is it?

Fideliney · 11/06/2014 16:37

I think it was being interpreted by a PP as a threat on the occupants of the car, which is one hell of a stretch.

If, for example, a motorist had knocked me of my bike (not that i've ever cycled on city roads) and then verbally abused me into the bargain, I can imagine possibly being scared/shaken/angry enough to scamble to my feet and boot the tyre of the car. There's no way that would be a threat to the safety of the driver or passengers though.

Fideliney · 11/06/2014 16:37

off^ my bike

Fideliney · 11/06/2014 16:38

scramble^ to my feet

Sollers · 11/06/2014 16:38

I saw a car ignoring a pedestrian crossing and almost knocking down an old man once, so I kicked the side of it (it would have knocked me down if I was two paces ahead). That was both a threat and an attempt to damage the car. And I don't feel bad about it - even if there were women and children inside. So there. Grin

Fideliney · 11/06/2014 16:40

But you weren't threatening to injure the passengers were you Sollers? Just cross?

Fideliney · 11/06/2014 16:46

On second thoughts, best not say anything that might incriminate you Grin
