...for foetuses with Downs Syndrome and other disabilities. Can't believe it. I hope that any Mumsnetters living in Kent can get out and vote for someone else! Link is to Gravesend Reporter.

Do you have a child with Down's Syndrome, Wips ? Or some other chromosomal disorder fairly easily diagnosed ? It's the only explanation I can think of for your stance.

Or maybe you have terminated for such a condition. You would get no judgment here if you have.

LoveSardines · 01/05/2014 21:18

It takes strength to have an abortion too, a lot of the time.

I am disgusted by these posts, honestly I can't express it.

What a low fucking view of women that poster has.

MadBusLady · 01/05/2014 21:18

But, wips, believing that people who choose not to continue a DS pregnancy - whatever their reasons - must also automatically be opposed anyone else continuing one, is a spectacularly stupid thing to believe. No one could really be that stupid, so I repeat, I think you're being deliberately obtuse.

WipsGlitter · 01/05/2014 21:18

Yes. I have a child with Down's syndrome.

LoveSardines · 01/05/2014 21:19

Cunt is rather sexist language, so not the word I would use personally.

You views are WRONG and utterly UNPALATABLE wips.

As bad as the man in the OP.

AnyFucker · 01/05/2014 21:20

Then you are allowed to be very very angry with the UKIP stance.

But not with other women who make the best choice they can at the time.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/05/2014 21:20

Impose your will on someone else and choosing for them is completely different than making a free choice for yourself.

I would be very unlikely to proceed to term with a child who had Downs for many reasons but I don't think foetuses with Downs should be terminated for others.

LoveSardines · 01/05/2014 21:21

And certainly not to state that those women would force other women to undergo terminations against their will.

I can't get over that.

AnyFucker · 01/05/2014 21:21

Sorry for double post, pc did a slowdown

MadBusLady · 01/05/2014 21:22

Ok wips, so do you really, seriously think for one second that the 94% of women who terminate a DS pregnancy all think you shouldnt have been allowed to have your child? Really, seriously think about how dumb that idea is.

Whichever way you look at it, however you turn it on it's head...the idea that women should not have a choice is utterly terrifying

WipsGlitter · 01/05/2014 21:25

I never said they shouldn't have a choice. Nor that they would force other women to do anything.

turgiday · 01/05/2014 21:26

Pro choice is eaxctly what it says. Women should have a choice to continue, or to end a pregnancy. Forced pregnancy and forced abortion, is equally wrong.

LoveSardines · 01/05/2014 21:27

Erm, you kind of did, actually.

Hence everyone has gone off at you.

MadBusLady · 01/05/2014 21:28

94% of women who find out they are carrying a child with Down's syndrome will terminate - so do they all agree with him?

So this was a bit of a pointless rhetorical "question to which the answer is obviously no FFS" then? Well, that's a relief.

WipsGlitter · 01/05/2014 21:28

Where did I say that?

MadBusLady · 01/05/2014 21:29

20.44

WipsGlitter · 01/05/2014 21:32

Oh. I meant Do they all agree that having a child with DS is a tragedy / terrible thing / drain on society.

WipsGlitter · 01/05/2014 21:33

Not do they all agree in forced abortion.

SingSongSlummy · 01/05/2014 21:34

No, I imagine that for some reason they feel that they would be unable to cope.

LoveSardines · 01/05/2014 21:34

The thread is about this man calling for compulsory abortion.

That's the title and everything. That is what people are talking about.

"UKIP candidate wants compulsory abortion... (71 Posts)

...for foetuses with Downs Syndrome and other disabilities. Can't believe it. "

LoveSardines · 01/05/2014 21:36

They probably don't all agree with that either, though.

They would not be my concerns if I were in that position.

MadBusLady · 01/05/2014 21:39

No, I'd be amazed if any woman ever made a termination decision on the basis of any "drain on society" type factor. Only politicians, possibly only small-c conservative politicians, think like that.
