For all of you who don't understand the disgust with the Daily Mail...

I have just been told they have published an article about John Hemming in which they name me. Both my real name and my user name.

Luckily for me I don't care. Luckily for me I decided long ago I would never put anything on line that I would be ashamed/upset/frightened for anyone else to read.

But for lots of people this would be a complete and utter disaster. People post really personal and sensitive stuff on this site about the worst times of their lives, looking for help and support. They must know that.

Note that they never bothered contacting me to find out which category I fell into.

So if anyone wants to start another wide eyed innocent thread - o I just don't understand why you all hate the Daily Mail so much!

Does this kind of thing help you understand a little more?

I will link to the scum bags but only because I hope people might leave some 'helpful' comments about JH.

Slight hijack but on the back of talk of potential petition through 38', I see they are running a long campaign around changes to the gagging law which will prohibit what campaigning groups can do on the run up to an election, so groups such as 38', change.org and other charities.

Although successful in getting some amendments before the final vote happening this Wednesday in the House Of Lords, I believe the key issues remaining are as follows (from 38' email):

  1. The amount of time that staff working for charities or campaigning groups will be allowed to spend campaigning will still be severely limited.
  2. There are still big new restrictions on what campaigners can do in a single constituency.
3.The rules could prevent different charities and campaign groups from working together in coalition, threatening initiatives like Make Poverty History and Stop Climate Chaos.

Not sure I've seen this discussed anywhere on MN (apols if it has, please point me in the direction!) so please check it out for yourselves (not sure allowed to link directly) and sign if you feel appropriate. Might this affect what MN can do?

Lioninthesun · 13/01/2014 18:44

Lilka yes I am worried about that too. It will portray SS as a whole as being evil and people will think JH is brave or something by standing alone against them. I do worry this will throw more people his way.
I am really hoping the nationals pick it up properly tomorrow and a few legal bods can explain just what would happen if a family being investigated fled UK...Personally I think he should be held just as responsible as any parents who take his advice in a UK Court, for advising them to do this as an MP.

oadcb · 13/01/2014 18:44

Came on to find you after discussing panorama and hemming today in uni but see you all know.

Lioninthesun · 13/01/2014 18:45

However as we all know, he is above the law and will therefore apparently never be held accountable, unlike us mere mortals Sad

Spero · 13/01/2014 18:45

JH has now been banned permanently from mumsnet.

And yes, will be watching with interest this evening. In spite of current feeling about JH, I have much empathy with any family that has been on the receiving end of shitty services. Whatever we feel about JH this is an issue which needs looking into, so I really hope they don't get over looked in the political aspects of the campaign.

NoseWiperExtraordinaire · 13/01/2014 18:50

Wow. Agree, brave call for Justine.

Lioninthesun · 13/01/2014 18:52

The sad thing is he had a point but went over and above what was needed in trying to convince everyone. We all know the system has flawed, but warning pregnant people not to come to UK in case they have their baby snatched, general hystria such as his current display about SS culminating in advice to 'flee the country' actually do little for the cause. It damages it in my view because it now tied up with bad image/media and he has no actual figures. For the amount of time he has supposedly been looking into this (decade?) he has NO figures to back up his claims. That is just shoddy work for an MP, and I doubt anyone could deny that.

NoseWiperExtraordinaire · 13/01/2014 19:01

Yes, it saddens me too.

Because there does need to be someone doing something.

Spero · 13/01/2014 19:03

I agree it is an enormous shame that he couldn't use his energy and his money for a better purpose. He has done massive harm to his cause.

www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/david-cameron-british-prime-minister-mps-who-break-the-law-should-resign-hemmingate

there is a petition here for anyone who wants to sign it

AnyFucker · 13/01/2014 20:03

thanks, WS

Farahilda · 13/01/2014 20:13

WestmorlandSausage i'm not sure if that petition will be terribly visible tucked away on this thread.

Is it going, with a very clear (and inviting) title the 'Petitions' topic? Often quiet in there, but I'm sure it'd get some bumps.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/01/2014 20:20

Good thinking Farahilda

PacificDogwood · 13/01/2014 20:58

V good blog - I agree with virtually everything in it.
