For all of you who don't understand the disgust with the Daily Mail...

I have just been told they have published an article about John Hemming in which they name me. Both my real name and my user name.

Luckily for me I don't care. Luckily for me I decided long ago I would never put anything on line that I would be ashamed/upset/frightened for anyone else to read.

But for lots of people this would be a complete and utter disaster. People post really personal and sensitive stuff on this site about the worst times of their lives, looking for help and support. They must know that.

Note that they never bothered contacting me to find out which category I fell into.

So if anyone wants to start another wide eyed innocent thread - o I just don't understand why you all hate the Daily Mail so much!

Does this kind of thing help you understand a little more?

I will link to the scum bags but only because I hope people might leave some 'helpful' comments about JH.

Marking place for when I am on laptop.

LakeDistrictBabe · 04/01/2014 09:54

I am in for a change.org petition.

Is anyone helping with the draft?

Spero · 04/01/2014 10:50

Good idea about the change petition. the ones I have seen have been pretty short. Is there a word limit?

I hink people should contact the LibDems above. But I think I have discovered why there has been so little inclination on their part to do anything.

Last night I (or rather I melded with Spero as the evil genius MNBorg MultiPerson) suffered a terrible and libellous assult on the restirred forum (which resulted in the entire thread getting deleted) and it continued by the same person on twitter. It was devastating ! Like being the victim of a confused sheep trying to deliver The Death Blow by... shagging my leg vigerously. Grin

This morning I had a full DM box of what appears to be her followers and other locals pointing out that it is a common knowledge that a signficant number of the LibDem movers and shakers are .. rather keen on Hemming staying in his seat.

Thus it would seem possible that if the LibDem big wigs were to make a move on Hemming they would risk alienating the local LibDem movers and shakers, which would result in a loss of the seat due to withdrawn grassroots support for a replacement candidate.

Plus, now I come to think of it, if Hemming stood as an independant, it would spit the LibDem vote.

You can see why hypothetically that would be a dilemma. Given how few seats they have.

So, I still think people should press on with drawing bigwig LibDem attention to this matter, but be prepared not to fall off your chair with shock if they appear deaf, dumb and blind.

Perhaps if the stength of feeling at national level is notable, possible local movers and shkers strong feeling will become the least of their worries?

Spero · 04/01/2014 11:27

thanks Carpe, sorry you've been bothered by an amorous dead sheep but I love your analogy. My chihauhua, despite being de-bollocked, continually tries to make sweet, sweet love to my Staffy's leg as she sits there looking bemused. I was thinking of that lovely tableau as I read some of Lynda's tweets to you.

If they are so keen to keep a Lib Dem MP, lets help them find another one. I shall definitely now press Duncan Hames for a reply

CarpeVinum- I understand your post. In Bham he seems (for God knows whatever reason) to have some clout. I cant imagine the LibDems throwing him out to the wolves so to speak- which I suppose says a lot about them as a party. But then- they are a pretend party who have completely fucked up their own future by allowing themselves to be used as a bolster cushion for the Tories.

In a party of very weak MP's im afraid that he appears to be viewed as a strong character. Confused

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 04/01/2014 11:33

According to google (I didnt read it in detail) he was up for party leader last time they got a new one!? Confused

PacificDogwood · 04/01/2014 11:42

Good grief.
The depths people intent on public office and power can plumb, never cease to amaze me.

Carpe, it sounds like you had an interesting day... Maybe we are all The Borg

I am going to be emailing anybody I can think of today - thanks for all those LibDem links, Families, that speeds things up quite nicely.

Spero, I will using vast parts of your letter as you suggested you don't mind that (you have a better way with words and I like that you acknowledge that IF such huge abuses go on in SS/family courts that they need to be investigated properly).

Other than that, Christmas needs to disappear from this house today. It is now driving me nuts. I know it's not 12th Night yet, but enough already with the sparkly lights

NoseWiperExtraordinaire · 04/01/2014 11:51

De-lurking to say why can't the Lib Dems see they'll do more damage supporting him?

Surely finding a better Lib Dem candidate can't be that difficult?

I mean, REALLY?

Tbh I am wholly disappointed with the whole furore. Part of me had once hoped JH was a misunderstood champion for change, who got things wrong occasionally, but at least went where other MPs didn't dare risk their arses by challenging the system. But to do that he needed to drop the mass conspiracy theory and openly campaign for better funding to highlight the plight of children and families in a creaking and absurdly underfunded system.

Should also add not disappointed by the efforts of everyone on these threads though Smile

nennypops · 04/01/2014 12:11

I think the Lib Dems have an interesting balancing act. I doubt that they seriously think they're going to retain the Birmingham Yardley seat under any circumstances, but I suppose they might just think that they will at least suffer a less embarrassing loss with Hemming there because of his personal vote. Also they don't want a split local party if Hemmings' supporters turn on his replacement, and they certainly don't want him standing as an independent.

On the other hand, they have the fact that he may be an electoral liability for the party as a whole, and recent events have made this a greater danger. I suspect that at the very least they will ask him to behave, but he's clearly not going to abandon his lovely conspiracy theory so goodness knows where they go from there.

LakeDistrictBabe · 04/01/2014 12:32

Spero

Is there a word limit?

No. I had one a long time ago and I achieved quite good results :)

LakeDistrictBabe · 04/01/2014 12:35

Carpe

Thus it would seem possible that if the LibDem big wigs were to make a move on Hemming they would risk alienating the local LibDem movers and shakers, which would result in a loss of the seat due to withdrawn grassroots support for a replacement candidate. Plus, now I come to think of it, if Hemming stood as an independant, it would spit the LibDem vote.

You might be right there. But as many others I'm already campaigning all over the place against the LibDem too, because to someone like me who's not voting yet, I'm associating Hemming's malpractice with LibDem's way of conducting political issues.

So my question is:

Is it worth it, for the LibDems, to support John Hemming while having him in their party is more damaging than having him out??

CarpeVinum · 04/01/2014 12:38

for God knows whatever reason

I have been told what the reason is. cos he Lady in question appears to have some very newly disgruntled followers since the "shaggingnsheep" style attack on the Carpe/Spero melded person Evil Genius MNBorg via an account not menat for personal use Grin and... DM is your friend and all that jazz.

I just can't post it on the board. Probably.

Hence the .... DITBPOV approach.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 04/01/2014 12:38

Or, if people see the libdems not acting on this, is having hemming in his seat, worth others losing theirs...?

CarpeVinum · 04/01/2014 12:47

it sounds like you had an interesting day

Well... night and extremely very early morning.

Whatfun · 04/01/2014 12:48

DITBPOV?

FamiliesShareGerms · 04/01/2014 12:50

Well, remembering that the Tories and Lib Dens are in government together and to exploit coalition tensions relevant Tories who might have an interest would be:

Edward Timpson, minister in charge of adoption and fostering at the Dept of Education

Michael Gove, Secretary of State at Dept of Education

Chris Grayling, Justice Secretary (and former councillor in Merton, one of the LAs accused of forced adoptions to meet targets)

I'll have a think who else

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 04/01/2014 12:51

Have you thought of contacting Private Eye about this? It sounds like the kind of thing they'd cover.

CarpeVinum · 04/01/2014 12:57

Beyond Well that is exactly it isn't it.

They probably aren't anti jettisoning Hemming in prinicple, but up till now the balance has been in JH's favour, keep him keep the local movers and shakers sweet v no loss on national scale.

But if keeping the locals sweet for one seat is seen as having a serious impact on the party's votability on a national level... then priorities may well change.

But it is going to take A LOT of letters and emails to hammer home the concept that their national image and votability is being impacted by hanging on to Hemming for the sake of possibly keeping Yardly.

Don't forget Yardley is a bell weather seat. Tends to reflect national mood. The LibDems have lost a lot of good will since the last election, so Yardley is deffo one they are nervous about. Plus Hemming took a -2.5% hit in the last election, despite the LibDems riding their best wave yet.

I am all terribly informed now, all thanks to a certain somebody who managed to piss off quite a lot of her followers.

It's like John's blog post all over again. You have to keep thanking the other side for enginnering all your big break throughs.

Which is fun and irritating all at the same time.

No really, I can't face being banished to Twitter forever.

I just can't.
