Apparently you need the 'right' sort of rainfall - slow and steady. Huge pelting showers just sit on the surface.

its rained a lot today, but then the sun came out and you could see the steam coming off the roads as the rain disappeared.

It's not that we don't care. I suppose it's just that we see a south-eastern bias in the news reporting. Like when it snows in London it is big news.

Although TBH all this talk of standpipes does get a bit tedious when it is raining for yet another day, the builder can't start on the front steps, I have to drive through a flood to get to work, we have to put the heating back on etc.

I pay a flat fee for my water, instead of being on a meter. And I'm down south.

While I love this obviously, I think that cutting it out would help as my water is so much cheaper than everyone else who's on a meter, and I consequently don't monitor my use.

But it's crap isn't it ... isn't it Severn Trent that has the worst record for leaks? And how come, with all our engineering knowledge, water can't be better distributed throughout the country? Or set up desalination plants ... ffs, none of us are very far from the coast are we?!

I can't understand how there's countries much drier than ours that cope perfectly well.

luna: funnily enough, according to the moneysavingexpert.com, most people who are on meters pay a lot LESS than those on a flat fee. Even those who use a fair amount of water.

I pay £15 a month. I have washing machine, sinks going, baths, showers, a thousand kids going to the toilet...

My friend who is on a meter is really strict to the extent she and her dh share bath water (urgh) .. her's is over £34 every month.

We pay less with our meter than we did 6 years ago in a 2 bed (as opposed to 4 bed) house with no kids.

Aaaaaaaaaaanyway, back to the whinge about the weather Grin...

... my boys birthdays were at the beginning of May. They got loads of outdoor themed presents - a slide, a cheapy playhouse, a bike, a scooter, a bubble blower machine... have they been able to play on any of 'em?! Nope - just stare longingly at them through the windows.

Let them out in a brief respite on Sunday - ds2 went to go on the slide and sank into the lawn - water just isn't draining properly and the lawn is now a swamp! I should start growing rice in it, actually...

I pay 500 a month anf there is a stream at the bottom of my garden ....might start weeing in buckets and chucking it in and stick two fingers up at my water bill!
