Would you let your child meet Condi Rice?

According to the news this am a lot of parents are going to keep their children home today because Condi Rice is visiting schools in Bradford (I think it is Bradford)and they want to protest the war in iraq.

I would love to meet Ms Rice who I think is an amazing role model for black women and women in general. What do you think?

It's Blackburn, Callisto. We live quite near there - DS1 is doing Politics A level and the Politics teachers were desperately trying to arrange to get them into one of the public events but no luck.

I agree, she is very impressive.

It's Blackburn - other side of the Pennines. Not sure - am anti-Iraq war. But it would be interesting to see her. Hmm.

Mind you, I was jolly glad that my parents were anti-monarchy during the Jubilee as I got a day off school when everyone else went off to wave flags... so maybe I should continue that tradition!

Maybe I'd go but take a polite placard saying 'excuse me, but the war was a very bad idea, if you don't mind me saying so'. Grin

Just thought about extraordinary rendition which is evil and for which she is responsible... so I'd take a strongly-worded placard after all.

I would go out of my way to get my kids in to meet Condoleeza. In fact, stuff the kids, I would go to great lengths for ME to meet Condoleeza.

I think she is a fantastic women.

Ms. Rice has achived much from humble beginnings.
Of the people who currently might plausibly be the next president she would get my vote.
Shame about her friends, but that's politics.

She has even managed to be remarkably diplomatic about rendition. This is done with the consent and collaboration of many other states, who could stop it at a whim.
It's a useful stick to beat the USA with but they are merely first amongst equals.

one can disagree with a politician's stance but still find them a great role model ...

personally I wouldn't want my children to consider any politician a role model .. I think there are certain attributes that enable one to rise in public office that are not particularly appealing in an individual

Condolezza Rice in Bradford? I think it's huge political statement to choose visiting Bradford schools above those of most other cities... Thousands of Muslims there, so, as much as I respect COndi (and Muslims), I think that she has a well planned political agenda, good advertising to get back home: "British Muslim children show their support to American main politician"

I would leave my children home. I hate when politicians involve unsuspecting children in their profile rising exercises.

But... as I said in my last post.... I hate when politicians use unsuspecting children in profiling campaigns, and, as much as I want to think well of the politicians agendas, when they do school visits the first word that jumps to my mind is: Advertising

Now, about protest around the school being bad advertising... I doubt very much those protests make it to American television. I will never forget the day (years ago), when President Bush (father) visited Panama, in the same day we could see in Mexican news how the PAnama people burnt flags and throw stones to the president while in the American news where those lovely children waving flags to Mr President.... no wonder so many Americans do think that Bush is actually a respected politician out of his country Angry

I would love for my children to meet a woman such as Condi Rice, she is a fantastic, strong woman.

I saw a news report a few months ago about her- suggested that she has the potential to be the first, not only female president- but also black president in the US. How amazing is that??? what a fantastic role model for young black women in the US.

I'd definitley let my ds1 meet her, he'd give her a right mouthful about the war in Iraq. He's very vocal about it for seven because his uncle is out there.

As for dividing up the responsibility, of course the Bush regime is chiefly responsible, and of course the politicians who collaborate also share some of the blame. Duh.
