According to the news this am a lot of parents are going to keep their children home today because Condi Rice is visiting schools in Bradford (I think it is Bradford)and they want to protest the war in iraq.

I would love to meet Ms Rice who I think is an amazing role model for black women and women in general. What do you think?

I would indeed let my Liberal anti war and eloquent 12 yr old DS meet her Grin.
She is brilliant on one hand, but she is also implicated in so many negative things. Only reading Stupid White Men did I really think, I do not care if she is female or not, she is as accountable as anyone for her political past and she is as bent as George W.
I am sure she will get the Republican nomination for being the next President.
I admire her on some levels but her policies stink - although am hopeful she can influence the middle eat Israel Palestine situation - she sure seemed to play hardball with Sharon earlier this year...

I'd have absolutely no problem with, so long as they got a good disinfectant afterwards and counselling!!!

I'd let my kids meet any politician, so long as it was in private and not used for publicity. So I guess that'll be never!

Hilary Clinton is a better speaker, but everything I read of her indicates a worse person.

I'm intrigued as to why anyone would try to keep their kids away from Ms. Rice ?

My view of education is to expose them to lots of ideas, and that includes ones I disagree with.

If my kids grew up believing the same as us, I'd feel a failure as a father.

expat - I totally agree.

I have heard loads of speeches from different political agendas and usually enjoy them. But it comes down to the orator ! For example, Castro is a total lunatic, but the man can deliver a speech like no other !

Even Mussolini and Hitler were well known for their amazing oratory, hence their success at brain washing millions.

Have you ever heard Condi speak ? The woman is a total yawwwwwnnnn - your children would be bored stiff Grin

Yes, but I wouldn't let my kids anywhere near her :).

I'm interested in controversial figures. I've seen speeches by Louis Farrakhan, Yassir Arafat, etc.

I feel it's important to see different points of view other than ones I agree w/in order to better understand why some people - and governments - do what they do.

Ms Rice is not a role model to women and most certainly not a role model to ethnic minorities, not in my book any way.

Of course if you like warmongering women who represent a Govt. that does absolutley nothing but create race and ethnic tensions, then I guess she is great !

Oh, and accordig to her former colleagues can't remember what university, she was an extremely bad manager and mediocre academic. So there !

NO ! But then I did spend 4 years at the LSE (still has plenty of semi-commi, militant students despite also having a very large and active Tory student body) so am quite used to seeing politicians we didn't like being pelted with rotten eggs and tomatoes.

Not very nice or democratic, but rather fun !

Hoping DS will be more civilised when he grows up and just go on lots of anti-war demos. and shout out something appropriately embarrasing and rude like: "when was the last time you read a decent history book, Condi ?"

She does seem nice as Tiner says. I've met a variety of politicians, including one tory that tried to get us to hire him :)
Even the ones whose views I don't like at all are generally good at one to ones. The national level ones I've met seem genuinely decent people. Of course I may have been fooled there.
Ms. Rice does seem especially good, even compared to her peers.
There is the pattern of Thatcher where it is probably easier for a woman to get to the top if she's from the right rather than the left.

Was thinking about this today. Yes, I would. In fact, she seems incredibly nice. Dialogue surely better than boycott?

'Extraordinary rendition is a useful stick to beat the Americans with'? Stuff that, it's an evil, cruel, stupid crime. Which should be stopped, now.

As for dividing up the responsibility, of course the Bush regime is chiefly responsible, and of course the politicians who collaborate also share some of the blame. Duh.

I'd definitley let my ds1 meet her, he'd give her a right mouthful about the war in Iraq. He's very vocal about it for seven because his uncle is out there.

noddyholder , what do you mean by her way of thinking ? I've no idea of her thought processes, how have you formed a view ?
