So throw him to the wolves? Do they really think everyone will think thats it job done?

bananaistheanswer · 08/11/2012 13:22

And he cannot pull the 'I was never told' shit he's done in the past over other issues.

Mrcrumpswife · 08/11/2012 13:22

I have to admit thats the first time DC has ever made me smile. I think his arse must have turned inside out when Phil handed over that list. He looked as though he was going to throw up.

Good, i hope the toad now understands that we are all watching him and how he deals with it.

FiercePanda · 08/11/2012 13:22

I completely forgot about the man you mentioned, troubador.

FiercePanda · 08/11/2012 13:26

Cameron needs to be made to realise that this isn't about gay MPs (I don't think any right-minded person gives a hoot whether an MP is gay or straight), but about MPs who are child abusers, and possibly worse. He cannot be allowed to let the powers that be wind this down and cover it up again. I think Pip Schofield has given him a clear message that the This Morning demographic know about all the rumours, are able to go online and read more about the rumours, and know all about the previous cover-ups. We won't stand for another.

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 08/11/2012 13:26

Anya I can imagine calculations going on behind the scenes about how many and what combination of dead and alive politicians will satisfy people.

troubador · 08/11/2012 13:27

Him and other expendables anya. I don't know what they think/know they can get away with tbh.

Mrcrumpswife · 08/11/2012 13:27

I think channel 4 are doing another report tonight. They seem to be the only news channel reporting this in any depth.

Tipsandshoots · 08/11/2012 13:28

mccrump I am at work at that made me tear up at my desk

AnyaKnowIt · 08/11/2012 13:31

So another cover-up then Angry

mignonette · 08/11/2012 13:53

This quote has never applied more -

?I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.?

Elie Wiesel (born September 30, 1928), a Hungarian-born Jewish-American writer, professor, political activist, Nobel Laureate, and Holocaust survivor.

Darkesteyes · 08/11/2012 14:01

I think Cameron is worried that this could overthrow the Government like the Profumo sex scandal did in the early "60s.
THAT is what he is more worried about.
And as for the gay comment WTF? He is basically saying that the public cant tell the difference between a gay person and a paedophile.
Good one Dave. Treating the public as if we are homophobic thick plebs.

Hummingbirds · 08/11/2012 14:10

mignonette

Elie Wiesel said that but he's quite happy for little Palestinian children to be flayed alive.

Mrcrumpswife · 08/11/2012 14:13

I still cant get my head around the fact that he actually threw the word Gay out there in front of over 2 million viewers. What would possess an educated man to even think that any of us would make any parallels between peadophillia and homosexualityConfused

I feel really angry about it.

I don't think Max Clifford has been giving our Dave any advice lately. Maybe he should be investing 250 grand a year into PR or reinstate Mr Coulson. Now there's a man who's squeaky clean!

Mrcrumpswife · 08/11/2012 14:15

Tom Watson has just posted this link on Twitter...

MrsChristmasVamos · 08/11/2012 14:24

I agree with you all on here. Since when did gay = paedophile ?

It must be very hard for DC up there in his ivory tower to have to try to climb down and understand the concerns we ordinary people have.

Mrcrumpswife

I also feel very angry. I can't get my head round whether he (DC) actually thinks that way, or thinks the plebs public do, or which is worse.

All these cover ups, and lack of acting on behalf of people makes me feel so sad. I always knew cover ups went on, we all do, but I feel stupidly naive now that we are beginning to learn just how high up and deep down cover ups go.

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 08/11/2012 14:28

I don't think he is trying to do that though. I think what he was trying to do, which he has spectacularly failed at, is to get the viewers to think that the people on the list aren't paedophiles but are perfectly nice gay people who are being targeted, because they are gay, and unfairly smeared as paedophiles.

swallowedAfly · 08/11/2012 14:34

well recently we've had the 'it's ok to cover up the abuse of children if you're worried it may incite racism' and he's seemingly extending that to, 'it's ok to cover up the abuse of children if you claim it's because you're worried it may incite homophobia'. and yy to him massively insulting the plebs as being homophobic thickos Hmm

it is remarkable to see people who formally were very snug in their sense of apathy and all is well don't be so paranoid actually questioning whether these people can be trusted. for many of us it is hardly radical to question the reliability of government and the judiciary system - therefore it would be easy for us to underestimate what this kind of mainstream cynicism indicates.

of course generally whatever the scandal, revelations or horrors that come out are the status quo is resumed after a shockingly short period of time. will it be that again? the optimist in me thinks the fact that it is so mainstream and there are SO many of us who now research 'news' more broadly than tv broadcasts and daily publications will make a difference BUT people LIKE to believe and trust all is well and dandy - to the point of sticking their fingers in their ears and humming you know? we shall see i guess.

swallowedAfly · 08/11/2012 14:37

so sorry - even i struggled to re-read my last post due to the shocking absence of punctuation Blush i'm going back to work in less than two weeks - hope i can regain my basic literacy or i'm screwed.

MrsjREwing · 08/11/2012 15:09

Phillip shot up in my estimation today. Poor Holly got shot down by DC when she tried, DC really does look down on women, he didn't shoot Scofe down, wanker!

Hummingbird

I'm talking about the quote applying to what we do here on MN and in our lives.

Hummingbirds · 08/11/2012 15:26

WOW!

Tory Paedo Cover Up

"Officers in London were inquiring into allegations made by a teenage rent boy that a Cabinet minister had been abusing him.

The youth claimed to be one of a number of boys regularly having sex with rich and powerful men in the 1980s ? some of whom would fly to the illegal orgies from Europe.

As well as the Cabinet minister ? who is still alive ? he pointed the finger at judges, European bigwigs and senior civil servants.

He told his story to detectives, who are understood to have received other allegations against the minister.

But a former detective who worked on the case revealed they were suddenly told to halt the probe.

The furious ex-policeman said: ?It wasn?t that we ran out of leads but it reached a point where a warning to stop came.

?It was a case of ?get rid of everything, never say a word to anyone?. It was made very clear to me that to continue asking questions would jeopardise my career.?"

MrsjREwing · 08/11/2012 17:09

JS mate has been arrested, just in time to take the focus off DC.

I heard that coming up and had to switch off as I didn't want DS hearing it.
However it has made me think of something.

In 2004 I worked at an event at a Hotel near Hay on Wye on the Welsh borders. A young man who worked with us told us that he remembered coming there twenty years before. He had been a teenager living in Brighton. He told us that he and lots of other boys (I'm not sure of their ages but under 18) used to be bussed up from Brighton on a weekend to 'party' with Tory MPs at this hotel.

He laughed about it, I thought it was a bit shocking. The set up there is dorms in the attic and big lavish bedrooms with seventies style circular baths in some of the bedrooms. You could tell what the set up would have been.

Now I'm wondering if I should mention this to anyone. I don't know the man's name though but obviously do know the hotel."

AnyaKnowIt · 08/11/2012 18:24

What I don't understand is that the police have arrested JS flatmate, yet its been reported in sky news that the victims are not sure of dates of what happened when. So why hasn't the tory who has been ID been arrested?
