Claig John Hemming does lots of good work for people. Let's hope he gets some backing. Threatening whistleblowers must be outlawed

John Hemming will fall off his chair reading praise on MN.

From his blog:
There will, of course, be a move to claim that all the current stories revealing historic coverups are historic and have no relevance today.

However, this would be misleading. I know of recent cases of children being maltreated in care that I have reported to the authorities and received an inadequate response. It is also obvious that the action of banning Leah McGrath Goodman was part of a coverup. This happened in 2011.

I wouldn?t be surprised.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 05/11/2012 18:05

How about appointing the head of NSPCC or something like that?

Mrcrumpswife · 05/11/2012 18:09

I wouldnt let the NSPCC near anything to do with children.

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 05/11/2012 18:13

We need someone who's not scared of being threatened and has no family, quite frankly.
I know I sound like a conspiraloon but too many people have died in suspicious circs related to all the child abuse scandals.

Mrcrumpswife · 05/11/2012 18:19

A month ago i would have laughed at you saying that tunip, but not nowSad

I fear you are right.

ommmward · 05/11/2012 18:28

Don't let the NSPCC anywhere near it. They take a huge amount of their funding from the State. Completely compromised. Home edders worked that out for themselves when the NSPCC were trying to support the last labour government's home-ed-probably-equals-child-abuse-so-we-need-to-inspect-all-of-your-children-without-their-parents-present-and-look-the-NSPCC-is-both-arguing-that-you-are-more-likely-to-be-abusers-AND-applying-for-the-job-of-inspecting-you plans. We really aren't usually conspiraloons, but hundreds of us quite loudly campaigned against the NSPCC in 2011 - I would never give them money or power now.

I think quite a big and diverse panel (to dilute possibility of pressure being put on any of them), mostly comprising women, mostly people not working in the public sector, and including several journalist whistleblowers would be a good thing (like the one without a visa, and the lady who wrote that fab piece in the Express yesterday). And yes, maybe people like John Hemmings and whoever else has been trying to get word out for years (David Icke? Haha that would not quite give it the credibility we'd be looking for...)

ommmward · 05/11/2012 18:29

Oh, and some female vicar types - people who are genuinely beyond reproach. A few good men. Is that even possible?

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 05/11/2012 18:32

Did you see in the Tom Watson letter just linked, he asks Cameron to get a special unit of police to do it but one of the commenters says getting the police to investigate the police is generally a waste of time.

I agree re independent panel, with some tried-and-tested whistleblowing journalists who are absolutely not going to let it go without getting to the truth.

Mrcrumpswife · 05/11/2012 18:33

They have to incorporate those who have already shown they have no fear like Tom Watson, John Hemming, Eileen fairweather, Liz davies and Nick Davis. They have all been fighting this system apart from TW for years.

MrsjREwing · 05/11/2012 18:43

No, no, no to NSPCC, and childline is part of NSPCC too. I would never have said this a month ago.

I wonder if anyone will do a Rebecca when checking through files?

NapOfTheDamned · 05/11/2012 19:03

Lady Heather Hallett who chaired the 7/7 inquests would be
a great choice

edam · 05/11/2012 19:19

Or the Bishop of Liverpool and the rest of the Hillsborough Independent Panel. Although I think that group may be exhausted. Helena Kennedy? Shami Chakrabati? Doreen Lawrence? Clive Stafford Smith? Loads of independent people who have honourable records of exposing miscarriages of justice.

As well as the NSPCC, we have to exclude Barnardos - responsible for Duncroft.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 05/11/2012 19:30

Sorry, meant like the NSPCC, wasnt thinking. I like your thinking edam, a panel of people who have honourable records. I`m not sure I would trust a parlimentary committee. This is really what DC should call for, but he wont, I fear a lot of mps and the like although not involved would be shown to have been very aware for a long time.

troubador · 05/11/2012 19:31

I wonder if there is a role for the IPCC to play in all of this?

Surely the failure of N.Wales police to act on the allegations? I don't know if they can look at very historical complaints...but the 2000 stuff, around Waterhouse time? What Steven Messham said about them crossing out names from statements etc.

MrsjREwing · 05/11/2012 19:34

Good grief Barnados is another a month ago I would never imagine was a big, big no no.

yy to Doreen Lawrence and John Hemming.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 05/11/2012 19:41

Id like to see Camila Batmanghelidjh from Kids Company on a committee, I think she`d get the truth out of people.

Actually, I committee for an inquiry and in general for childrens issues in general made up of a panel from these people would be amazing. Why doesnt a government come up with these things, I mean we have?!

Hummingbirds · 05/11/2012 19:43

edam, Shami Chakrabati's neutrality is compromised by her membership of Common Purpose. An organisation which some claim is like the Masons on steroids.

Doobydoo · 05/11/2012 19:51

Great names on here.I feel we may have to campaign for this to happen.

edam · 05/11/2012 20:01

Hummingbirds, my Mum was in Common Purpose, never heard a hint of anything shady from her - and she's definitely on the side of exposing wrongdoing and has sometimes paid the price for that. Can make you very unpopular. This was in one part of the country, though, maybe it's different elsewhere.

Mrcrumpswife · 05/11/2012 20:02

I agree about Shami being compromised and i wouldnt want to inflict any more heartbreak on Doreen Lawrence in dealing with this nightmare. Her life has been blighted by enough suffering without those sorts of images to carry for life.

edam · 05/11/2012 20:02

(Mind you, my Mum's really not a clubby person, if there was Masonic favour-trading going on no-one would ask her anyway!)

Mrcrumpswife · 05/11/2012 21:03

At some point someone needs to explain about Masons to me in an easy simple way.

Hummingbirds · 05/11/2012 21:25

edam, I'm sure there are plenty of perfectly decent Masons out there too. Doesn't mean that Freemasonry as a whole is healthy and corruption-free. I've read some damning things about Common Purpose, including paedophile and criminal activity. The fact that Deutsche Bank is behind them speaks for itself.

MrsjREwing · 05/11/2012 21:29

I read some of the recent Mason thread on here, had a Mason posting on the thread and relatives of Masons.

My basic knowledge is there is a faux womens Masons that is seperate to Man Masons.

My feeling is most Masons are ignorant of what goes on up higher and the lower rugs are for career development, friendship and dinners/charity fundraising.

The concerning bit about Masons are the oaths sworn.
