It is only a tattoo.

Good Lord.

Barking mad.

FunnyLittleFrog · 11/08/2012 15:42

The Guardian Saturday magazine man is Tim Downing (for example...)

Blimey! Talk about ishooooos.

And I thought I was a tattoo hating, control freaky mother who couldn't let go.

She makes me seem positively sane and level headed.

She's acting like he's 15, not 21 "What if he wants to become a lawyer?" He's probably nearly finished his degree, which it seems is not in law. And lawyers/accountants etc do wear shirts to work, and usually jackets too, to an interview.

I almost feel sorry for her, and certainly feel sorry for the rest of her family.

piprabbit · 11/08/2012 15:56

A normal reaction might be to say:
Are you sure it is what you want?
Will it limit your job oppurtunities?
Will you come to regret it?
Does it make you happy?

Not to say:
I am bereaved.
I am hurting.
I have lost my son.
What have I done to deserve this?
Apologise to me for what exactly
Make me feel better.

Imagine being so self-absorbed that you prefer to destroy your relationship with your child instead of accepting their perfectly normal and legal choices.

It can't be real surely? I don't like tattoos but I'd dd was 21 and got one then it's be her choice. Stupid woman!

LynetteScavo · 11/08/2012 16:06

I would love to know what the tattoo actually is! Did the mother ever find out?

DeepPurple · 11/08/2012 16:06

Is anyone else thinking that he didn't really get a tattoo? She hasn't seen it so may be he's just wanting to see her reaction.

hackmum · 11/08/2012 16:18

When I was on holiday (a bit off topic here) I saw a man who had the following tattooed on his back:

you do not own your children, they are gods gift to you as you are to them

Now THAT I would be upset by: no caps, no full stops, no apostrophes.

ValiumQueen · 11/08/2012 16:20

How ridiculous!

"I feel like someone has died" and "your not the same person" erm you need to get a grip

mayorquimby · 11/08/2012 17:25

firstly she sounds like a passive agressive bitch.
""Shall we talk?"
We sit down with cups of coffee. I open my mouth to speak and end up crying instead. I say, "You couldn't have done anything to hurt me more.""

Secondly there is no way in hell this is an acccurate quote of what she said because her son would have pissed himself laughing.

I look at him, sitting there, my 21-year-old son. I feel I'm being interviewed for a job I don't even want. I say, "But you're not. You're different. I will never look at you in the same way again. It's a visceral feeling. Maybe because I'm your mother. All those years of looking after your body ? taking you to the dentist and making you drink milk and worrying about green leafy vegetables and sunscreen and cancer from mobile phones. And then you let some stranger inject ink under your skin. To me, it seems like self-mutilation. If you'd lost your arm in a car accident, I would have understood. I would have done everything to make you feel better. But this ? this is desecration. And I hate it."

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/08/2012 17:31

I wish you'd all stop quoting, I read it in the OP but the more I read it, the more I want to punch her in the face Grin Angry.

Denise34 · 11/08/2012 17:34

Why do the Guardian print shit like this?

KatieTaylor · 11/08/2012 17:37

I remember that Diana Appleyard writing about how common her husband was Confused lovely! so loyal! Mr Appleyard, have a Wine have another. Grin

perplexedpirate · 11/08/2012 17:38

Ha ha ha ha ha!
What a dick!

mayorquimby · 11/08/2012 17:44

also just to say to her, 3 tattoos and I'm a lawyer.

happybubblebrain · 11/08/2012 17:45

I think tatoos are horrid, so dd will probably get one when she's old enough. I should start pretending that I like them now.

21 is definately old enough to be making your own decisions. The mum should give up trying to control her kids now.

amillionyears · 11/08/2012 17:55

She sounds like she is narcissistic. All about her.
If she reads this thread, please carry on loving your son.
He has a life, just like you do.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 11/08/2012 17:57

If she was that concerned about sunscreen and mobile phones, if she was so terrified of cancer striking her son...how the hell does she not see the horribly irony of her self pitying words ... Being bereaved?
Really!
Fucking really?

Stupid, self centred, living in an indulgent privilidged bubble, idiotic twat.

I so very much hope she sees this thread.
I want her to apologise for her ridiculous ramblings.

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 11/08/2012 18:08

I don't know, I read it and it felt to me more like she is upset because she has realised he isn't her little boy any more, along with some 'I made that body how dare you change it - you are rejecting me' when he wasn't purposely doing anything except getting a tattoo.

OTT reaction, she acknowledges it is OTT

Totally agree she is going to be the MIL/grandma from hell though - Sob! WAIL! They didn't buy the cot I wanted for the baby, they hate me. Lots of pearl clutching when they choose a name she doesn't like... Grin
