It is only a tattoo.

OP posts:
effingwotsits · 11/08/2012 09:20

Hmm a bit extreme or what!

PogoBob · 11/08/2012 09:24

this can't be a true piece, it must have be written for attention only, surely no one would get that upset over one tattoo that can be covered up!

Pagwatch · 11/08/2012 09:25

The really sad thing is that she is choosing such a small thing to become a wall between them.
She talks about his cutting the apron strings with meat cleaver or whatever that nonsense was, while he must be sitting there thinking 'is that all it took for her to turn her back on me? Not murder of drugs or criminality, but a tattoo ?'
The line about rehearsed insults suggests their relationship was pretty shit anyway. If I sit down to discuss something with someone I love I wouldn't trot out practiced retorts. She says it is the result of not showing your anger as if that is what everyone does. Pretty fucking weird.

mrssmooth · 11/08/2012 09:26

Hmm indeed. She definately needs to get a grip - he's 21!!!

mrssmooth · 11/08/2012 09:26

Agree with Pag.

scummymummy · 11/08/2012 09:28

Good grief! She's got ishooooos. One of those who think her kids are an extension of herself, perhaps? Poor young man.

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 11/08/2012 09:29

She is an actual loon!

She would have shit kittens if knew I had mine at 15!

You would think he had committed some awful crime!

limitedperiodonly · 11/08/2012 09:29

It could be a joke. It might not be though.

Poor boy.

noddyholder · 11/08/2012 09:30

Agree with pag this is such a ridiculous thing to do to a relationship between a mum and son.

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/08/2012 09:31

What an utterly ridiculous woman.
She's got to be the silliest woman I've ever heard.

OhNoMyFoot · 11/08/2012 09:32

No doubt my parents would react very strongly but at least tgat is down to experience. My dad had tattoos and changed his mind, he hated them, eventually having laser treatment but it couldn't get rid of all of it. They won't be happy but would accept as an adult it's my choice and my mistake to make

Can you imagine what sort of mil this woman would be?

peeriebear · 11/08/2012 09:35

Wow, just wow. I think that's one of the most self centred things I've ever read!
"My adult son is a stable, healthy, educated, useful member of society but he chose to do something I disapprove off... WHAT ABOUT MEEEEEEEEEEE?!?!"

LOON squared.

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 11/08/2012 09:35

Totally offended by her attitude that he can't get anywhere in life because he had tattoos, and her scrabbling opinionated values.

What a narrow minded self absorbed person.

peeriebear · 11/08/2012 09:35

*of not off!

scummymummy · 11/08/2012 09:37

I did wonder if it was a spoof too, lpo. It seems SO ridiculous that it can't be real, somehow. But it's not funny exactly so would be an odd joke piece...

MrsHelsBels74 · 11/08/2012 09:38

I couldn't read it, was getting too annoyed. Mind you I have 4 tattoos so not really the best person to see her point of view.

tara0202 · 11/08/2012 09:38

If that's all she ever has to worry about with her kids she's doing fine if you ask me. She sounds like she's in some perfect non reality bubble.

Imagine having a mother that was such hard work and so entitled! Poor boy.

peeriebear · 11/08/2012 09:38

I'm baffled by her assumption that he now has no job prospects. How the hell does she know that no professional people ever have tattoos hidden under their clothing? How many lawyers/doctors does she see naked? Does she frequent country club saunas?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 11/08/2012 09:39

I thought it was quite interesting and she knows that she was being unreasonable. She is actually taken aback by her reaction but its that reaction that the piece examines.

landofsoapandglory · 11/08/2012 09:39

I know someone whose DS got a tattoo at Uni. They were devastated and told him if he came home with another he'd have to move out for good!

peeriebear · 11/08/2012 09:40

And how would a prospective employer know that the smart young man with the good cv sitting in front of him/her had a tatt on his bicep? And more importantly, why would he/she give the tiniest shit?

EdithWeston · 11/08/2012 09:41

"For a start, I know I'm being completely unreasonable. This level of grief is absurd"

I think she knows SIBU. But is exploring why she has had such a strong reaction.

wellwisher · 11/08/2012 09:42

My mum reacted like this when I had a (non-visible) piercing and obviously that isn't even permanent.

"I MADE THAT BODY AND YOU HAVE VANDALISED IT" then didn't speak to me for a week Grin

mellen · 11/08/2012 09:42

That is a very strange article. The son at least sounds more sensible than his mother.

I'm not aware of it being standard practice in interviews for professional jobs to strip someone down and examine them for tattoos!

LegoAcupuncture · 11/08/2012 09:47

A tad extreme. I would have thought her precious son moving out and going to a different town to university would have been much harder than a tattoo. Maybe she is projecting that onto the tattoo?
