It is only a tattoo.

OP posts:

Utterly ridiculous , I'm not surprised she wrote it anonymously, she should be ashamed of herself.

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 11/08/2012 09:49

If my son got a tattoo and turned down by an employer because of it, I'd think he had a lucky escape.

Are there still companies around who judge to such levels and want to produce identical mainstream clones...?

I interview lots of graduates for entry level in my line of work. It never occurred to me to be offended if I see a tattoo through a shirt sleeve, or on a wrist or ankle. In fact I take it as part of someone's colourful makeup and personality.

I'd be angry if I was supporting my son and he was putting tattoo money before books and rent, but he said he worked and paid for it himself.

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 11/08/2012 09:50

Did she even see the tattoo in the end?

Perhaps it was a picture portrait of her face! Grin

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 11/08/2012 09:50

OMG using a beautiful funeral poem that makes me well up every time to mourn her DS getting a tattoo... FFS woman, get a fucking grip, its a tattoo

Fedupnagging · 11/08/2012 09:55

Massive overreaction, it's almost laughable. Her son is an intelligent 21yr old adult and it seems like he had thought it through before he had the tattoo anyway.

Ds1 had 3 tattoos on his torso at 17 without telling me. He managed to keep me from seeing them for a few months but when I did finally find out, what hurt me the most was the fact he didn't tell me not that he'd had them done. After a quite frank conversation on my part, he now tells me when he's getting another inking Hmm.

This mother needs to realise it is her son's body, his life, his choice.

thekidsarealright · 11/08/2012 09:56

Utterly ridiculous.

My Mum still refuses to believe my one small tattoo is real....I've had it for 11 years... and bitterly regret it

RavenVonChaos · 11/08/2012 10:00

My dd has a tattoo at 15. Yes I was devastated.

However my only son died at birth so I can put things into perspective.

I am upset that she uses a stanza from WH Audens poem funeral blues to describe her grief.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; pack up the moon and dismantle the sun

This poem is about death and losing someone you love. Not about the wrenches of your adult children making their own choices.

SadSadSad

BelinaTheChicken · 11/08/2012 10:01

Suzy i thought that about the poem, reminds me of Four Weddings, bit insensitive to the many who have used it when loved ones have died

The only way I would have that reaction is if either DS came home with swasticas tattooed on his face. I feel sorry for that boy

limitedperiodonly · 11/08/2012 10:17

myInnerGoddess I want to know what the tattoo was of too.

Surely she'd be okay with it if it said: 'Mummy'.

3littlefrogs · 11/08/2012 10:25

Heaven help her if she ever has to face anything really bad happening in her life.

solidgoldbrass · 11/08/2012 10:35

She really does want a good kick up the twinkle. Poor lad, she must have been making his life hell with clinging and whining for years.

fuzzpig · 11/08/2012 10:40

Jesus wept. How pathetic. By equal measures hilarious and baffling.

She's right about the job prospects though - haven't you heard about the part of the interview where the boss says "c'mon then, shirt off, I need to check if you're a commoner"

maytheoddsbeeverinyourfavour · 11/08/2012 10:46

grief fucking grief? Over a tattoo?

I hope her son decides to have nothing more to do with her, he'd be better off without her

maytheoddsbeeverinyourfavour · 11/08/2012 10:47

And can you imagine what she'd be like as a mil Shock

edam · 11/08/2012 10:48

Wow, she's desperate for work, isn't she. Couldn't think of anything more interesting about her family life than that? Editor of Guardian Family must owe her a favour. OR she knows some deep dark secret about the editor. It's Liz Jones level of self-absorption but about something even more petty - blimey!

Northernlurker · 11/08/2012 10:48

Wow that's an over-reaction. So self indulgent. She should try thinking about what it would be like to have a real problem - like dealing with a child addicted to drugs or drink or arrested for a seroius crime or critically ill or worst of all dead.

Northernlurker · 11/08/2012 10:49

maythe - I think we should hope ds is gay. Heaven help the poor woman who had to deal with that nightmare!

She's made it all about her and is seriously damaging her relationship with her son. Silly woman.

TheCrackFox · 11/08/2012 11:00

I couldn't finish reading it.

Anyone else think that she will turn out to be the MIL from hell?

LST · 11/08/2012 11:02

Haha crackfox they were my first thoughts!

tiredemma · 11/08/2012 11:05

"I cry instead. I have a lump in my throat that stops me from eating. I feel as if someone has died."

what a drama queen

Chubfuddler · 11/08/2012 11:06

Before I click on this link is it to a daily mail article?

IWipeArses · 11/08/2012 11:14

What a dickhead.

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/08/2012 11:17

'I feel as if someone has died'... Shock.
What an utterly insensitive cow she is.
