I'm agog. I'm so agog I bought the Radio Times to read all about it.
There will be sheep, clouds (yes, clouds), maypoles and all manner of shit. Moshpits, apparently. Glastonbury Tor. Ploughs.

And 3 hours? What happens - we watch the clouds, then we watch the sheep? What are the billions of people involved going to be doing?

I cannot wait. Anyone have any further info?

That was awesome.

lighthousekeeping · 28/07/2012 01:28

Really? I'm not convinced. I just have an aversion to Kenneth Branagh. Took me awhile to get into it. Loved the music though. Appart from Macca.

Wingedharpy · 28/07/2012 01:45

We thought it was absolutely suberb.
Well done Mr. Boyle and all the volunteers who took part - the organising of this must have taken months of hard work and planning.
Not sure people from outside the UK would have understood the significance of it all but we found it very entertaining.
Agree that Sir Paul really shouldn't be let out from the nursing home any more on day release as he just gets up to no good. The voice has gone Macca - pack it in now.
So glad it was a bunch of young unknown athletes at the end who lit the flame and not some over-paid sports celeb.
It was truly magnificent.
Well done to all involved - you should be proud of your achievement.

lighthousekeeping · 28/07/2012 02:01

I would've loved to have seen Bowie instead of Macca. I don't know if it was easy to get outside the UK. Enjoyed it but I don't think it was family viewing. Some parts were abit long. Loved all the music. Appart from Macca.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 28/07/2012 07:43

Interesting comparing it to being there.

In the stadium, the Industrial Revolution bit was suberb - so stiring to hear the drummers under the stands behind us, then to see them. Drums come over less well on telly.

Laughed a lot at the Queen and Rowan Atkinson on the TV. But I'm glad I was there to just hear the Chariots of Fire without Comedy because that was truly moving at the rehearsal.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 28/07/2012 07:48

Agree about Bowie/Macca

Loving the wiggy athletes outfits. Czechoslovakia took piss of us in our own country by wearing Olympic wellies and carrying brollies.

The people carrying the Olympic flag - Doreen Lawrence etc, Shami Chakrabati - fab.

notyummy · 28/07/2012 11:30

Loved it!!!! My jaw genuinely dropped when the real queen turned around in the film. Dh thought it was going to be Helen Mirren. All great apart Macca.

ThePan · 28/07/2012 12:14

News just in! Aiden Burley MP has complained about the multi-culturalism in the Opening Ceremony. So he comes a new GB competitor - he is going for the high jump.

Ponders · 28/07/2012 13:16

ThePan · 28/07/2012 13:26

Other breaking news! Aiden Burley MP has just failed an Olympic dope test.

greenandcabbagelooking · 28/07/2012 17:47

I was in the Industrial Revolution section. I had an amazing night. I'm so glad people enjoyed it after months of rehearsal in the rain!

ivykaty44 · 28/07/2012 18:31

Czechoslovakia took piss of us in our own country by wearing Olympic wellies and carrying brollies.

Its great isn't it - where else would they be able to do that and it be all fine and dandy

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 28/07/2012 19:18

Yes, all power to them, ivykaty. It made me laugh

ThePan · 28/07/2012 19:22

Thanks for a brilliant show, greenandcabbagelooking. All of the volunteers looked really professional and well-drilled.

yes if just about any other country had the piss taken out of it on one of it's most prestigous occasions it would trigger an international diplomatic incident. We just laughed at it. Coz we're like that!

Hassled · 28/07/2012 19:55

Well done greenandcabbage - the whole thing was superb.

I've just managed to make myself furious by reading the Daily Mail hatchet job.

Well done to all the volunteers! I thought it was fab, however I felt that Paul Mc was a poor finish to an otherwise amazing evening.

Cremolavelodrome · 28/07/2012 20:18

Special well done to green and those blimmin drummers - how did they all keep going for the 204 teams ! Extraordinary!
Just watched it again : Mohammed Ali made me cry.

notyummy · 28/07/2012 20:37

Well done Green for a fab show. My parents who are in their 70s also loved it although struggled with the musical bit after Queen! They said said they were very proud and also switched off Macca. Mum suggested Bowie.

Jellykat · 28/07/2012 21:08

We switched off Macca too.. wonder how much the viewing figures dropped by, as soon as everyone twigged it was him.
Just how has he managed to be the finale for everything going over the last 2 years or so? Confused

Loved everything else!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/07/2012 17:55

Loathed Macca ? what a damp squib. Also the official Olympic song with assorted warblers ? meh. And fecking Jerusalem.

ajandjjmum · 30/07/2012 05:50

We loved it! Until the procession of athletes (which is so long it has to drag!), the whole thing flew by and kept us all captivated.

Just wondering how they're going to rehearse the closing ceremony without (presumably) being able to practise?

Aladdinsania · 30/07/2012 20:09

The, er, ever so slightly mildly critical chat thread about Paul McCartney's role in the opening ceremony has been deleted, but The Daily Mash has carried on the good work: TRAINSPOTTING director Danny Boyle is to helm the closing ceremony to mark the end of the world, with Paul McCartney headlining "....The End of the World ceremony is scheduled for December 21, which is when Mayan calendars predict Armageddon will occur........To add to the excitement, the world will not actually end until the last chorus of ?naah-nah-nah nah-nah-nah-naah?. In theory the final calamity could be deferred by hours, maybe days, depending on how Sir Paul?s throat holds up....Music critic Tom Booker said: ?When I heard the end of the world was coming my heart sank because I knew what it meant ? Sir bloody Paul McCliché and his grand piano trundled out for bloody Hey Jude. ....."

Aladdinsania · 30/07/2012 20:13

greenandcabbagelooking - well done Smile
