Gary Glitter - where next I wonder?

After reading \link{http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/4769164.stm\this}, I was wondering which country he will next infiltrate to satisfy his disgusting habit?

The man needs treatment and he needs to acknowledge the damage he is inflicting on his victims and their familiesAngry.

I wonder if his own family have disowned him, particularly his son?

there were lots of allegations form hwne he was charged before in england that were never put to him as they were historic or the evidence was sheky
but he certainly had done a lot more in enlgand when he was foudn wiht the porn on his pc

Hulababy · 03/03/2006 09:11

3 years doesn't seem much really does it? I suppose the finacial bribery helped him get away with something more harsh :(

Yes, in a few years time he will no doubt move on to the next country and repeat his offences again.

Saw it in BBC news a few minutes ago - him claiming his innocence after the verdict. Until he admits he is doing wrong he will never change.

Hope he gets his true punishment once inside prison.

nutcracker · 03/03/2006 09:14

3 years, thats disgusting. I thought they wanted to make an example of him to show that they wouldn't tolerate people going there for that reason.

RachD · 03/03/2006 09:14

He will only be in jail for 1 year ?
And in England, he was only in for 4 months.
This is just an insult to all of us.
And as you say, where next ?
How many times, how many countries does he have to go to, before PROPER action is taken against this evil man.

He is so vile looking isn't he ?
Looking at him gives me the creeps.
Yuk !!

Freckle · 03/03/2006 09:16

And he may be out by Christmas as prisoners are eligible for parole after 1/3 of their sentence has been served. As he's been on remand for 3 months, he may only have to serve 9 months.

It is disgusting and the ridiculous acting on his part when he was found guilty just shows what a deluded sick man he is. I too hope he gets his just rewards in prison.

cod · 03/03/2006 09:17

i dont think 3 years is too short

he assuatled tow girls
if you wanted more than thre years hwomuch woudl you gove for say... arson endagaering life?

Freckle · 03/03/2006 09:22

Yes, but what is meant by assaulted? According to the news, all in the court were deeply shocked when it was revealed exactly what he had done to them. No details were given on the news.

cod · 03/03/2006 09:22

hmm
wel oyu never know unless oyoua re there do you

Papillon · 03/03/2006 09:24

he looks quite happy to be going to jail! Probably can keep up his underage addiction in prison.

nutcracker · 03/03/2006 09:24

They said they were going to make an example of him though, to put others off going there to comitt the same crimes.

Can't see as his sentance will be a deterrant.

alexsmum · 03/03/2006 09:26

3 years? is that it? terrible.

alexsmum · 03/03/2006 09:27

cod if a filthy old git like him assaulted one of your sons, would you be happy with a three year sentence?
i wouldn't.

cod · 03/03/2006 09:30

n think s hard
you see the thign is that we all woudl want revenge but what i find on mumsnet is that there is a tendency to eb outraged and suggest htat everyone shouel go to prison for life. for everything.

there doesnt seem to be any sort of sliding scale for crimes. adn often the opinions are based on media reports when if youare in the couirt you ehar more detail that wodul expalin sentencing ( not in this case perhaps ) but I woudlnt want to spend 3 years in a vietnamese jail.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 03/03/2006 09:54

Quite frankly I think the Cambodians want rid of him as quickly as possible. He will then be deported, he will not be leaving under his own steam. Then he will be back here and our children will be the ones at risk.

Angry
RedRidingHood · 03/03/2006 09:59

agree with you about the length of time in a vietnamese jail if they are anything like the Thai or similar jails - is far worse than a UK jail with your tv etc etc

am outraged about his 'assaults' on the girls but their families must have had some knowledge of what was going on mustn't they

not too sure about sentancing though - 5 years seems fairer but certainly not 10 or 15

sorry - crappy computer (operator!)

Piffle · 03/03/2006 10:07

He will be deported back to Britain after his sentence ends according to Sky news.
Also yesterdya they carried a story which said he would be imprisoned if he returned to the UK
Both of these things would be the next best option if the firing squad isn't one.
He is a one man scourge of a nation Angry

cod · 03/03/2006 10:10

no he cant be

cod · 03/03/2006 10:11

rearrested here surely

Piffle · 03/03/2006 10:14

There is a new law about UK people who commit sex crimes abroad I think?
I think they can be detained under this umbrella
perhaps
I will try to find the article...
Sky news often make stuff up though Grin

Angeliz · 03/03/2006 10:16

Dp and i were talking about this this morining. I bet if he comes back here nothing is done to him. He'll be a free sicko along with the rest of them.

Of course it's not that easy but i think for people like him they should be locked up for good. Why let them out? They will abuse again.

The onlt thing that stops me saying that about all paedophiles is the type where a girl of 14-15 tells an older guy she's 17 and then he gets done. That's a grey area but this is clear as crystal.

cod · 03/03/2006 10:18

yes but surely that for poeple who commit the crima abroad and arent detected
you cna try him twoice for the same crime if he has aready served time

Piffle · 03/03/2006 10:18

It appears not from a quick google
I am sure they must have something they can pin on him for trial when he gets back
If he is not convicted of actual rape though it is a lot harder to detain him indefinitely as a danger to the public.
I think he knows and exploits every single loophole.
Apparently he lives in luxury in prison as he can afford to buy it.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 03/03/2006 10:20

I think it would be more helpful to get him treatment than to lock him up for the rest of his life. But until he admits he has a problem then treatment and counselling wont work.
