How plausible do we find John Terry's defense?

Condover · 09/07/2012 12:35

That he was only repeating words Anton Ferdinand has accused him of saying.

I can't imagine saying those words ever. I'd be very upset to be accused of saying them, but I wouldn't repeat them in my denial, but then I'm not John Terry....

Oh, and you're a Christian as well.

Praise the Lord

ironman · 13/07/2012 19:48

Can I just say something my husband is brown (mixed race) but strangely I never get him mixed up with other black or mixed race people. Strange I know......

Is it some sort of abuse to mention you are a Christian?. How perverse.

ironman · 13/07/2012 19:55

Raeday..Why am I a bigot?? Is it because I'm not married to a white person? Is it because I'm not married to "one of my own?" My children are not white? Please tell me?

Raeday · 13/07/2012 19:56

@Iron,

my comment was aimed toward limitedpersonalityonly I hope you understand.

Raeday · 13/07/2012 19:57

My child is of mixed race also.

happygilmore · 13/07/2012 19:59

Why do you keep saying Anton Ferdinand brought the case? He didn't complain to the police, a member of the public did. The CPS then decided to prosecute. It was nothing to do with him that this case was prosecuted!

limitedperiodonly · 13/07/2012 20:03

No, I just found the detail about being a Christian a remarkable thing to drop in. So I remarked upon it. Just as I found it remarkable that a while ago you dropped in the detail about being married to a man of mixed race.

btw you are aware that Anton Ferdinand didn't bring this case, aren't you? A little thing called the Crown Prosecution Service did because they considered Terry had broken the law?

It turned out that he was acquitted. So no harm done.

limitedperiodonly, you comment about court reporter made me laugh,I dont think there,s much call for biased court reporters who also get a lot of the facts about the case wrong.

AmberLeaf · 13/07/2012 20:14

Raeday..Why am I a bigot?? Is it because I'm not married to a white person? Is it because I'm not married to "one of my own?" My children are not white? Please tell me?

Strange thing for someone who's celebrating john terry getting off to say?

Very odd.

Your children have a black heritage and you think it should be ok for white men to call black men black cunts?

Your poor kids.

YouGoonie · 13/07/2012 20:17

Maybe ironman should be the Mn appointed court reporter for all celebrity court cases?

ThePan · 13/07/2012 20:20

This thread is about 2 things, from my pov at least:

  1. The JT case where the magistrate wasn?t convinced beyond reasonable doubt that JT was intending to be racially abusive. The evidence was there, but not convincing enough to satisfy that high threshold. So the verdict came back as it did. And
  2. The ?support? that racists will take from the verdict. That is, you should be free to racially abuse people who are black, as it is a ?speech crime? and so black people should NOT have any legal redress. Essentially they just put up with it because they are black. That position is maintained by ironman, as he states that: "Whilst I think it's wrong to insult people about skin colour or whatever. I still think it's very wrong to bring a person to court for what is basically a speech crime. "

Racist people, esp. the BNP like to dress up their racism as a ?freedom of speech? issue, whilst also trying to maintain a façade of ?reasonableness? by saying they abhor racism, and quote family and friends who are allegedly black. It's classic stuff.

Something else they do is to scaremonger about anti-discriminatory legislation and claim fantasy scenarios, like 10 yo being in court for such crimes.

Ironman ? your hope that this verdict marks a celebration for ?freedom of speech? indicates your position on racism and racist abuse. As well as just about everything else you have posted.

limitedperiodonly · 13/07/2012 20:21

Gosh Amberleaf I think you might be on to something.

Motion I'll have you know that following court cases is a very difficult job. Even when the judge, who is in fact a magistrate, gives you a written summary to read while following each line with your finger and with your tongue poking out of the corner of your mouth.

Raeday · 13/07/2012 20:23

Amber,

I don't believe Iron has stated at any point that it is ok for white people to call black people cunts or vice versa.

I'm not sure why her children have anything to do with this?

Just to throw it in, an everton fan was banned for 3 years from football matches for calling a player a lazy French bastard.

MotionOfTheOcean · 13/07/2012 20:24

limitedperiodonly I,ll have you know I have just spluttered coffee all over my laptop at your last remarkGrin

YouGoonie · 13/07/2012 20:26

Me too Motion! Pepsi out of my nose!

Raeday · 13/07/2012 20:27

CPS may take up a prosecution Motion?

limitedperiodonly · 13/07/2012 20:29

ThePan I'm confused now. I presumed that despite the username, Ironman was a Christian woman who was married to a man of mixed race and had children by him.

Are you suggesting that ironman is not what he/she seems to and is in fact in some kind of alternative relationship? Shock

Inquiring minds need to know.

ironman · 13/07/2012 20:30

Anyway, the verdict is not guilty, so that's the end of it.

ThePan · 13/07/2012 20:32

the other thing that may be of use is that ironman, in the month of July, as only posted on this thread. With one excpetion being the benefits reform thread where he made one post that someone/others should "get a job".

We rarely get high profile race cases in the UK, but they do attract specific attention from people with particular views.

Raeday · 13/07/2012 20:32

seems some people are angry that it is not guilty and you're the easy target iron. Once a cheat always a racsist an all that.

YouGoonie · 13/07/2012 20:33

If you say so Raeday Hmm
