Add your details here to see how comparatively wealthy you are compared to the rest of the country.

27% of the UK earn less than we do, and we are living on the edge of poverty apparently.

Agree it is a pretty crude measure. We are rich by national standards but live in a fairly expensive bit of London. I would guess that our joint income is pretty low for where we live, but we are lucky to be mortgage-free which makes a huge difference. On the other hand, I'm expecting a baby and childcare costs for the first few years are going to be huge.

Quenelle · 27/06/2012 14:04

81% have a lower income than us. We are 'well off'.

Our current outgoings mean we can't afford to save money at the moment but we don't worry about what bill's going to drop through the letter box every day like we used to. We are very aware that we are much luckier than a lot of people.

duchesse · 27/06/2012 14:42

I reported a PM yesterday. According to MNHQ he checks out but it's a pretty bizarre way of gathering "background information".

whojamaflip · 27/06/2012 22:23

another one here who was pm'd - reported it but no reply from MNHQ yet...

BehindLockNumberNine · 27/06/2012 22:39

I received a pm too. Have ignored it for now. Not sure what to do with it?

BertieBotts · 27/06/2012 23:14

PMed too. Am ignoring unless I get an urge to reply...

Hopefullyrecovering · 27/06/2012 23:20

It says we are rich

I don't feel very rich. I actually feel fairly worried about how to meet all my financial commitments and hope that our jobs will be okay because I'm a bit dubious whether or not either of us would get another in the present environment.

kilmuir · 27/06/2012 23:22

84 % have a lower income.

duchesse · 27/06/2012 23:26

hopefully did you put in net income (ie after tax)?

Hopefullyrecovering · 27/06/2012 23:32

Yes, don't worry, I managed that :)

duchesse · 27/06/2012 23:49

Gosh, not sure why I felt the need to explain what "net" meant... Sorry!

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 28/06/2012 16:28

87% earn less. Feel very humbled.

Morloth · 30/06/2012 14:14

97% earn less.

TodaysAGoodDay · 30/06/2012 14:23

I wa PM'd as well. I have no problem in answering questions if the person is legit, but I haven't had a reply from MNHQ either...

sixthsense · 30/06/2012 14:40

93% - Wow......sadly our outgoings are horrendous

Hownoobrooncoo · 30/06/2012 18:55

97% have less. Guess we are very fortunate.

We came out as super rich (99%). Knew that couldn't possibly be right so had a closer look and noticed it was after tax income. Super stupid!

joanofarchitrave · 30/06/2012 22:19

24% earn less, Squeezed middle. But I think we are a lot better off than many in that category due to low outgoings. And we're not 'feeling the pinch' because we were in the 8% earn less/poverty' camp until April this year. The contrast is amazing.

Hopefullyrecovering · 01/07/2012 00:21

The wealth calculator takes no account of outgoings. This is a big fat fail on the wealthometer IMO.

Our outgoings include:

Mortgage - 12k
Travel costs - 15k
After-tax cost of pensions - 20k (and before you say anything, these pensions are not gold-plated public sector pensions, and they will only provide for an average income in retirement)

61% - squeezed middle - which is obvioulsy why I have just had a sceaming match with dh who is having a go at me for not being able to live on £100 a month 'pocket money' arse.

Cremolafoam · 01/07/2012 12:47

Squeezed middle.
Oh yes
No pay rise for the last 8 years

Hammy02 · 03/07/2012 12:34

95% have lower income. That has got to be bollocks. Don't feel particularly wealthy.

OhDearNigel · 05/07/2012 12:45

83% earn lower then us. However, are you supposed to take compulsory pension contributions out of that - because DH pays 15%.

it doesn't reflect the fact that DH and I work an average of 60-70 hours a week each to bring home our income.
