Breaking news is that Mr and Mrs Philpott have been arrested for the murder of their six children. I cannot believe this has happened. I pray that a mistake has been made. RIP children.

I haven't read the coverage but a defendant has a right to appeal a bail decision made at the Magistrates at the Crown Court - the magistrates refused bail so defendants are going to Crown Court appealing the magistrates decision - I would imagine.

I thought there wasn't a bail request today?

Babylon1 · 31/05/2012 22:01

Does anyone think it's likely they'll get bail??

For their own safety I think it will be denied, because for as reserved as we have been on here about guilt and speculation etc, there are a lot of people locally who will have them hung drawn and quartered already and if they were to return to Victory Road (scene of crime) I dread to think what the local residents could be capable of Sad

LadySybildeChocolate · 31/05/2012 22:04

It may be safer for them out here then it is in prison, Babylon.

Sleepydog · 31/05/2012 22:11

They won't get bail , their safety being one of the reasons.

starmaker7 · 31/05/2012 22:16

Yes Ive just read that they didnt apply for bail today ,I very much doubt it will be granted tomorrow public opinion is far too strong at the moment but as the above poster says it 'may' be the safer option :-/

topknob · 31/05/2012 22:16

Yep agreed, as I said earlier they are and will be remanded for their own safety.

Babylon1 · 31/05/2012 23:27

I hadn't thought about it that way LadySybil Sad

Sadly I think that's true. Too dangerous for them. All I could think about, in terms of how quickly the fire could have taken hold, was when I think about our hallway when only 4 of us finish school/nursery/work for the day. There are bags everywhere, shoes, coats, moshi monster cards etc... I happen to know exactly how those houses are laid out and if they were only living in the house (no extensions etc), there must have been beds/kids paraphernalia everywhere, considering the number of people living there. As far as my comments about jury service or judging people are concerned, surely if you've expressed an opinion on MN or FB, then you've got an opinion, therefore not impartial. Although most people on this thread seem to be quite rational and thoughtful.

LadySybildeChocolate · 31/05/2012 23:50

From what I remember of the inside of the house, the walls were clad with ply wood. It's not great as it gives off toxic fumes and burns fiercely due to the way in which it is constructed (small chips of wood, coated in a thin layer of wood and then sealed with a resin). I don't believe that they intended on killing their children, something did go very wrong though and all people can do is speculate and wait until the truth comes out, if it ever will that is.

PercyFilth · 31/05/2012 23:56

Sarah, I have an opinion, but as it's largely an uninformed opinion, it may very well change as further facts come to light. I would still consider myself to be impartial as my opinion is not entrenched. :)

I had thought that the Police were onto something when they removed the caravan for forensic testing. It's a very sad case though, my thoughts are with the rest of the family and the surviving siblings. Not only have they lost a sister and brothers, but they are in danger of loosing their father and step mother also.

Yes: in the context Nancy used it, I would infer "sound and solid".
