cod no i wont kid myself tht it will go into the pockets of needy claimants i havent.....because i know it wont....

you know i dont agree with the cuts that the needy in our society face....

doormat · 21/05/2012 13:53

amber nothing in this life is ever guarranteed...another govt will come in and cock it all up/ mess it around/ try and save a buck or 2

AmberLeaf · 21/05/2012 13:56

Did you not detect the sarcasm in my last post doormat?

I know its not lifetime guaranteed!

another govt will come in and cock it all up/ mess it around/ try and save a buck or 2

Erm yes that would be what is happening now!

doormat · 21/05/2012 13:59

glitter sorry have to disagree with you there...in our society there has always been a hatred towards benefit claimants going back to maggie thatcher......whenever times have been hard and through recessions it seems to go worse towards benefit claimants

successive govts have come in and screwed it all up/either through payments/ eligibilty/ entitlement etc etc

i think why we find it all so disturbing is because of cameron had a disabled ds/ we all thought he would make it better but he is another useless shit with no backbone

Glitterknickaz · 21/05/2012 14:01

No I never thought he'd make it better. I always knew he was a proper snake oil salesman. More fool anyone who believed his slime.

doormat · 21/05/2012 14:08

glitter wish i had the foresight...he lost his ds i think a week after i lost mine....i thought he would help parents of children with disabilities...i didnt vote in last election as i cba....they are all the same.....even what happened to gordon brown, i thought he would of been more comapssionate but he wasnt....all govts stink

AmberLeaf · 21/05/2012 14:08

I find it disturbing because it is disturbing!

To hold up some of the most vulnerable members of society as fraudsters so that cutting their lifelines can be justified is utterly disturbing, actually what is disturbing is that so many people fall for it.

BoffinMum · 21/05/2012 14:10

When Riven said that he looked 'soft skinned' or whatever it was, I knew he was going to be smarmy and silver tongued.

AmberLeaf · 21/05/2012 14:13

I didnt think this would happen because its the mark of a civilised society to take care of the sick and vulnerable..

I was filled with dread that day in may 2010 because it was the tories and I dont trust them as far as I can spit.

David Cameron is the devil and id practice my spitting skills if I ever saw him.

Glitterknickaz · 21/05/2012 14:17

You'd waste your saliva?
I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

AmberLeaf · 21/05/2012 14:17

You have a piint GlitterKnickaz Grin

AmberLeaf · 21/05/2012 14:18

point even!

Thumbwitch · 21/05/2012 14:20

another £350m that could be used more usefully

AmberLeaf · 21/05/2012 14:22

Damn Times paywall!

From what I glimpsed that was about renewing Trident?

WasabiTillyMinto · 21/05/2012 14:25

the whole 'benefit hater' thing is completely over the top on this thread. i think the system needs reforming so that some people get more help and some get less.

Thumbwitch · 21/05/2012 14:32

Shock - was it behind a paywall for you? I got straight to it so didn't even realise, sorry! Yes, it's about paying £350m for the design contracts for renewing Trident. The actual cost of full renewal is (from that article in the FT) £20bn over the next 16y.
"The Conservatives remain committed to a full renewal of Trident submarines by 2028, at a cost of £20bn, although Mr Harvey?s review is looking into whether there are cheaper alternatives."

AmberLeaf · 21/05/2012 14:40

Ah just checked I think I can read it if I register which is free.

Codandchops · 21/05/2012 14:45

Thing is Tilly, who would you choose for "less help".

Me with an autistic child
The blind chap up the road
The woman who is able bodied but unable to leave the house unaided due to agoraphobia caused by horrendous abuse in childhood.

Who makes these decisions? Who decides that person A is more worthy of support than person B?

Obviously some people will always need support, trouble is that it's not always apparent in first glance which these are.

Glitterknickaz · 21/05/2012 14:47

Um no the 'benefit hater' thing is trying to get back on topic.

Never mind.

Or was my relating of stuff that's actually happened to me and my family over the top?

FrothyOM · 21/05/2012 14:50

"In 2011, the JRF estimated that a single person needs to earn £15k before tax to reach the Minimum Income Standard to cover all their outgoings including housing. If that is correct then someone on benefits with no special needs should receive about £12k per annum."

Thats great! it would mean my mate, a single man, should have the approx 8k a year he receives in benefits upped to 12k

I get approx 14k as a single mum with 2 kids.

I've included housing btw

Want2bSupermum · 21/05/2012 14:53

David Cameron is a poor excuse of a man. To me his personifies all that is wrong with our political system. I say this as someone who is conservative (but not a Tory). Everything is about form over substance. It was the same with Tony Blair. Both leaders are very shallow people who did/do what is necessary to keep them in #10.

We only have ourselves to blame as we voted for these clowns. Why do we not have better candidates on each ticket? No one wants the intrusion into their personal life. Anyone who is self made has skeletons in their closet. Anyone who has been married for 20+ years will have done something stupid at some point. Anyone who has half a life will have treated someone they love badly or said the wrong thing at some point. We have a society today made up of people who can't think for themselves and see through half the rubbish published by the media.

How can we expect someone who is squeeky clean to be able to empathise with issues real people face in real life? If they are squeeky clean then chances are they have not been exposed to real life.

Nancy66 · 21/05/2012 15:00

Want2bsupermum - i don't think you need to have been to prison or fucked somebody else's wife to be a good PM

Want2bSupermum · 21/05/2012 15:09

Nancy What I am saying is that there are plenty of people who would make fanastic MP's but don't get involved because they want to keep their private life private.

Clearly Mr and Mrs Cameron did not rely on government assistance to care for their son. Heck, they were able to afford for Mrs Cameron to work. The reality for the average person is very different and I don't see the empathy for the disabled from Mr Cameron. This is just one example but I see many more examples where MPs are not exposed to real life.

Nancy66 · 21/05/2012 15:15

Churchill came from an incredibly privileged background.

I think the reason many don't go into politics is because it's incredibly hard work and not very well paid - i imagine the loss of privacy is way down the list.

Want2bSupermum · 21/05/2012 15:41

Churchill slept until noon and used opium as a student..... I don't think he would have survived todays media.
