Just applied for DD Her nan can take her if and the baby if I can't get the time of work!!

satine · 02/02/2006 08:44

Does nothing? Have you ever seen the list of what the Queen does? Whatever your criticisms of the Royal family, to say they do nothing is ridiculous. Apart from useless idiots like Edward.
And I have far more respect for the Queen than I do for President Blair and his awful wife. Now there's a sponger....

LadyTophamHatt · 02/02/2006 08:51

Applied for ds1 and 2.

We're not royalist but I think it would be a Fab for them to tell their kids about one day.

Plus, i'd quite like to go.

The 25th is a Monday, so I presume that all those that disapporve of children being taken out of school will not be applying.

No double standards.

prettybird · 02/02/2006 09:18

Oops blush] - must have looked at the wrong month - it is a Sunday.

Having said that, any Scottish children would have to travel back up extremely late at night - and would be exhausted the following day - and of course would be "bragging" about it - which is totally unacceptable.

Actually I think the whole day sounds great, DS would love to go to see the concert and meet various large stuffed cartoon characters AND he even has a thing about Jamie Oliver for some strange reason. In our house, the queen is not an issue (maybe because we're not British?). God, on the other hand is more of a problem (seeing as our local school is CoE and we are firm non-believers).

fullmoonfiend · 02/02/2006 10:01

Oh my word, I've had a sudden rush of blood t the head and applied! My dh will kill me if we're accepted! Ds more excited about JK Rowling than her Maj! (me too )

girliesmum · 02/02/2006 10:37

looks like it would be a excellent experience for the children. Everyone gets a little picnic bag and you get free travel throughout London for the weekend. My DD thinks she is a Princess and insisted we apply. (she's 7)

noddyholder · 02/02/2006 13:22

no, why perpetuate the myth that these people are special.Send your kids for tea with a local oap who probably has a lifetime of interesting stories to tell and no one to have tea with

My DD wouldn't go for the tea with the Queen if she rang her up personally and invited her.

She stood for three hours with the Rainbows and Brownies last summer waiting to "meet" the Queen after being specially invited.

Queen's walkabout ran over time, lunch was ready so she got out of the car without a glance at the uniformed organisations standing there proud and excited and went into the stately home she was visiting. DD got a picture of the back of her head from about 100 yds away.

I've gone off Her Maj since then. Princess Diana wouldn't have ignored the children I know for certain.

Tortington · 02/02/2006 22:21

go noddy!

paolosgirl · 02/02/2006 22:39

Would I like it? Nope.

Would I stop them if they wanted to go? Nope.

Mirage · 02/02/2006 22:40

I won't be applying as my dd's are too young.Shame as I'm the only one out of our family not to have been to Buckingham Palace.(Hausfrau, the toilet paper was still the scatchy stuff in the 1990's too).

I don't mind the Royals,I do like Prince Charles-he was very kind & considerate to my nan once & I always appreciate acts of kindness.

DH has met most of the Royals & despite always being a bit of a republican,I think he quite liked her maj & her dh.He didn't think much of Andrew though.

Blu · 02/02/2006 22:56

Yes, have applied - no chance of DS coming out with some anti-royalist gem, he will think the whole thing is a re-inaction of the Golden Ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Just think that if the Quen is going to spend all this dosh on a party to honour her b'day, it might as well be this particular taxpayer that has a nice time. Though tea served in tents sounds very dreary.

Arabica · 03/02/2006 17:58

I hope she does decaf coffee with soya milk or I want some of my tax back!

RTKangaMummy · 03/02/2006 18:30

We applied yesterday for kangaboy and meeeeeeeee

We are deffo royalists

SoupDragon · 03/02/2006 18:35

you can't apply for yourself because you're over 14!

quickbrownfox · 03/02/2006 18:35

arf

RTKangaMummy · 03/02/2006 18:41

But I am going with him as a responsible adult

Whizzz · 03/02/2006 18:43

I've just sent off DSs name - no idea what we'd do it we get a ticket

SoupDragon · 03/02/2006 18:43

Erm... are you sure you're eligible??
