TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 10:10

ok some of you ahve complained about the £26000 Benfits capped and then slammed into hunty cat for having to much money left

so to balance it out this how £26000 would be broke down for myself as single parent with 4dc

.£26000 straight away 13200 would have gone to the LL .

so thats £12800

left .Discount Cb as peoplle up to £40000 can earn so tale away £3534 approc

so im now down to 9256 .Tale away council tax Benfit thats me down to £7886 .

thats then down to £151 a week
they will then tale of teh free school dinners have 3dc that entitled ( only 1 has but they will do the sums based on what they are entitled to ) so £6 a day times 5 is £30

£121 left take of £15 for water £20 for gas and £20 for electric bearing in mind most wil be on card/key meters taht charge more

would leave me £56 a week for food and clothes and any extras

Now relook at the figures again that im in h/a at £126 a week my hb is £6652

so think the problem lies when your forced into private rented a large amount of your money is swallowed up by Hb .And remember not all LL will takke Hb so often you pay a preimum for sometime substandard accomidation as they are aware that people can not move

And lets also remember those that are working in low income of £18000 Pa will also recieve top ups too of CB , WTC and CTC

£86 bit less than you but have one dc less .

But if your Dh is earning to much got Cb that puts him in more than £44000 a year and even after tax that still be more than £26000 I'm sure

And would be suprised that your not getting any ctc

Lockets could your DH not ask for a £500 pay cut to allow you to keep your child benefit as you will lose more than £500 when your CB is cut.

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 22:08

What I find really quite sad is that instead of people who are on low wages saying, "Fecking hell. My wage is so low that even people on benefits have almost as much as I have, and they only get enough for the bare minimum of life" and questioning WHY they are earning so little, they start bashing benefit scroungers.

Do you know that Tesco made £14,300 profit per employee last year?

And yet their staff are paid pitiful wages. Or no wages at all if they are on Workfare schemes.

We rage about bankers' bonuses, but forget the clerk at the counter of the bank is earning peanuts.

Instead of saying, "Wait a minute. There is something wrong here", they are being taught by the government to blame someone else. The weakest.

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 22:09

Lockets

If your Dh salary is above threshold so around £44000
His take home pay be around £32000 so that's £6000 more incomin than me

OP, how much more do you think would be appropriate? I do believe there should be some cap, but what would you consider reasonable? Many families live on less than £26K and they are working. I appreciate you can't work, but where would you draw the line?

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 24/01/2012 22:17

Actually TESCO pay quite well, the checkout staff certainly earn above minimum wage I know that much.

The whole workfare thing is a load of twattery bollocks tho, homebase etc are onto it too

Kellogg · 24/01/2012 22:18

I agree MmeLindor.

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 22:27

Cheese
I know, I am being lazy cause the Tesco figure is the one that I know and I cannot be bothered to google the rest of the workfare wankers.

AyeRobot · 24/01/2012 22:29

I recommend a subscription to Private Eye to all you finger-pointers-at-benefit-claimants. It might just re-orientate your hands...

THC - you are doing well to have kept all of your toys in the cot!

MamaMaiasaura · 24/01/2012 22:42

I hope they cap it.

AyeRobot · 24/01/2012 22:44

What does regular night-time childcare cost? Is it even available?

You know, if NRPs could be relied on/forced to contribute to their children's costs on a regular, committed basis, we probably wouldn't even be having this conversation. Yes, I am generalising, based on the majority. Shoot me.

And if childcare costs in standard working hours were factored into maintenance figures so that the RP didn't shoulder it all (whether financially on a direct basis or on a time basis), then the debate would look very different.

EssentialFattyAcid · 24/01/2012 22:50

I would like to see The disabled receive a lot more in benefits than currently Paid to them.

For everyone else, I think a caP is sensible. Some of the figures on this thread are crazy though. £720 on water? £2080 on gas/ electric? £1950 as a single adult for council tax? I pay half these amounts, which would release another £200 a month for spending.

If your housing costs are too high you can move to a lower cost area or a smaller house, exactly as for anyone else. I would love to live in a bigger house in a more expensive area - wouldn't we all?

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 24/01/2012 22:53

Did anybody else see the programme about big families tonight on ch4 ?

Two families living together, she brought her kids, he brought his and THEN they took in their 3 nephews so they didn't end up in care, saving the state thousands. Altogether there were 10 kids.

He'd worked in the same job for 20 years but shortly before making the programme had been made redundant. So he'd paid into the system all those years. I imagine the cap will effect them somewhat, they may end up seperating so they have enough money to live, the 'surples' children that aren't theres, may end up in care.

So yes, the cap will target the scroungers (who will no doubt just make their kids go without a little bit more ) but along the way, as it sweeps through it will also punish people who have paid into the system for years and ended up needing help because sadly, shit happens.

ILoveGreggsSausageRolls · 24/01/2012 22:57

Whoa, hold on, I was actually trying to help

At the end of the day your XP has a responsibility. I didn't know he was out of work, take him to court. Btw you don't automatically get benefits if you leave you job voluntarily. Sounds like either your making assumptions or he is committing benefit fraud.

And let's face it how many college students work the hours you DS does, not that much.

If you want to take your issues out on others and start attacking, then fine, doesn't really bother me. I'm not the one crying poverty but still has the internet. Not really essential is it Hmm

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 23:02

Ilovegreggs
You do know that for many disabled people, the internet is a lifeline.

edam · 24/01/2012 23:03

That's a spiteful post, IloveGreggs. Walk a mile in someone's shoes, why don't you?

Debs75 · 24/01/2012 23:05

Those with big families, won't some of them just seperate and raise half the kids each?
If you had a family of 8 there is no way they could survive on their income capped on £26,000 (and does this include the housing benefit you receive?) so some may just decide to split and then keeo roughly the same amount before the cap but with 2 lots of rent paid out. If they are lucky they will get houses next to each other and still get all the benefits of a large family

carernotasaint · 24/01/2012 23:07

ilovegreggs the internet IS essential for jobhunting. Some jobs only accept online applications. Pity you didnt think of that before your flounce.
