26000 cap what it would mean to me

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 10:10

ok some of you ahve complained about the £26000 Benfits capped and then slammed into hunty cat for having to much money left

so to balance it out this how £26000 would be broke down for myself as single parent with 4dc

.£26000 straight away 13200 would have gone to the LL .

so thats £12800

left .Discount Cb as peoplle up to £40000 can earn so tale away £3534 approc

so im now down to 9256 .Tale away council tax Benfit thats me down to £7886 .

thats then down to £151 a week
they will then tale of teh free school dinners have 3dc that entitled ( only 1 has but they will do the sums based on what they are entitled to ) so £6 a day times 5 is £30

£121 left take of £15 for water £20 for gas and £20 for electric bearing in mind most wil be on card/key meters taht charge more

would leave me £56 a week for food and clothes and any extras

Now relook at the figures again that im in h/a at £126 a week my hb is £6652

so think the problem lies when your forced into private rented a large amount of your money is swallowed up by Hb .And remember not all LL will takke Hb so often you pay a preimum for sometime substandard accomidation as they are aware that people can not move

And lets also remember those that are working in low income of £18000 Pa will also recieve top ups too of CB , WTC and CTC

It's all such a minefield isn't it - how to make it fair and to help as many people as possible, but also find all the benefit scroungers and get them doing something useful - if not paid work, then at least working for their benefits.

Clearly a cap isn't going to be very fair :(

edam · 24/01/2012 23:12

that's a spiteful comment, bobbysmum. Who made you the OP's boss?

bobbysmum - the OP has posted a few messages every hour - hardly means she's neglected her children all day FFS.

Well someone had to say it. Plenty of people are thinking it.

bobbysmum07 · 24/01/2012 23:17

And by the way, part of my hard-earned money goes towards paying that carer's allowance, and so I am entitled to question it.

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 23:18

Bobbysmum
It is possible to post on the internet thoughout the day while doing other stuff. Shall I list all that I have done today while I was nipping in and out of MN?

ILoveGreggsSausageRolls · 24/01/2012 23:18

Hold on, I will not be attacked for trying to help the op save money (as in my original post)

I actually think her xh has been a complete twat for leaving her like this and not even paying for his children, well what little he does contribute. He does not deserve to be let off so lightly while she and her children suffer.

I also suggested her DS took sandwiches to college and paid his own bus fare, both of which would free up some money. How was I to know he worked unusually long hours at college? And that he was struggling to find PT work?

I was trying to find a practical solution, however small.

Yes the internet comment was out of order, and I will apologise. It was said in a negative reaction to the response I was given

For the person talking about flouncing, I never said I was going anywhere??

edam · 24/01/2012 23:19

No, you aren't. You aren't in charge of everyone who benefits from government spending merely by virtue of paying taxes. You don't get to decide which new road gets built, or who gets a hip operation, or how much we spend on the Olympics. You want to do something about that massive chip on your shoulder...

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 23:20

Where do you get this arrogance to say that your money goes towards that carers allowance to a woman who is paralysed from the waist down and still manages to care for her DC?

Do you begrudge cancer victims their chemotherapy?

edam · 24/01/2012 23:20

(That was to bobbysmum, btw.)

AyeRobot · 24/01/2012 23:20

Hmm, when they bring in "adopt a benefit claimant" then you might be able to say that your money goes to her. Maybe your portion goes towards food for an MP.

bobbysmum07 · 24/01/2012 23:21

MmeLindor - and are you paralysed from the waist down and doubly incontinent yet registered as a carer?

ILoveGreggsSausageRolls · 24/01/2012 23:21

I tell you what Edam, try walking in my shoes.

You don't even know me, yet come out with a comment like that?

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 23:21

No, but the OP is. What do you mean?

TheHumancatapult - thanks for posting your details - it is good that we see real figures to counter reactionary posts/views/media.

Have there ever been any radical proposals to change the way housing benefit is paid to private landlords etc?

Can I ask a questio - is your water £15/week, gas £20/week, electric £20/week? Sad That seems a lot. How much more expensive are key meters?

Debs75 · 24/01/2012 23:27

Bobbysmum if you are so seriously concerned about the 17p an hour the OP gets in Carers Allowance then you need to get some priorities. That 17p an hour she and most oither Carers are degrudged is often saving the government, and the 'tax payers' hundreds maybe thousands a week per disabled person who would otherwise be placed into care or nursing homes or left in hospitals

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 24/01/2012 23:28

I'm always hopping on and off mumsnet, mainly via my phone. In fact right now i'm sat on the loo.

I post often when i'm in the kitchen making the tea ( guarding the cooker )

I post when the kids are in school or busy elsewhere.

I'm a carer too, am I not allowed to relieve my boredom go for a shit in peace

Am I also not allowed to do as I damn well please when my children are in school ?

Or do I have to explain what I do 24 hrs a day 7 days a week to internet nobbers because i'm one of those luckey people who recieves £57 a week in exchange for having a pretty shit life the internet being my only link to the outside world far too often ?

If it makes you feel any better bobbysmum me and my partner have not had a night out together in the 13 years since dd was born, i'm not likely to in the next 13 years either as both dcs will still be at home no doubt.

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 23:29

Yes, that was my meaning though. I have been posting on MN all day but I have done loads of other stuff in between.

When you look through, THC has been posting in flurries. There are several long breaks in between postings.

If you would prefer to take her carer's allowance off her and pay for a professional carer, go ahead. We will take it from your wages, since you are solely responsible for the wealth of THC.

bobbysmum07 · 24/01/2012 23:31

Anyway, when this country is bankrupt and there is no money to pay teachers, healthcare workers and law enforcement officers, you will understand why a cap on benefits was necessary.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 24/01/2012 23:31

Yes Debs, if I threw in the towel tomorrow it would cost a minimum of £300,000 A YEAR to keep my son in a residential facility.

I'm not too sure about dd but it wouldn't be cheap I imagine.

I'm doing it for a fucking bargain price.

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 23:32

bobbymum
Do you know how much the benefit cap is going to save the government?

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 24/01/2012 23:33

THC - great news!! Bobbysmum clearly thinks you are on such a lark with your carers allowance that I'm sure she'd be willing to look after your disabled child for less than 20p an hour!!
