26000 cap what it would mean to me

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 10:10

ok some of you ahve complained about the £26000 Benfits capped and then slammed into hunty cat for having to much money left

so to balance it out this how £26000 would be broke down for myself as single parent with 4dc

.£26000 straight away 13200 would have gone to the LL .

so thats £12800

left .Discount Cb as peoplle up to £40000 can earn so tale away £3534 approc

so im now down to 9256 .Tale away council tax Benfit thats me down to £7886 .

thats then down to £151 a week
they will then tale of teh free school dinners have 3dc that entitled ( only 1 has but they will do the sums based on what they are entitled to ) so £6 a day times 5 is £30

£121 left take of £15 for water £20 for gas and £20 for electric bearing in mind most wil be on card/key meters taht charge more

would leave me £56 a week for food and clothes and any extras

Now relook at the figures again that im in h/a at £126 a week my hb is £6652

so think the problem lies when your forced into private rented a large amount of your money is swallowed up by Hb .And remember not all LL will takke Hb so often you pay a preimum for sometime substandard accomidation as they are aware that people can not move

And lets also remember those that are working in low income of £18000 Pa will also recieve top ups too of CB , WTC and CTC

I get no maintenance (I think someone on here, on another thread said 3 out of 5 lone parents are in the same situation) and the child tax credit is bundled in to the working tax credit.

I had enough to take me and my dts on holiday last year because during the school year I worked overtime for vouchers. I have the same this year.

You cut your cloth through good times and bad.

TalkinPeace2 · 24/01/2012 19:18

presumably things that people on benefits get free - like prescriptions, eye tests, dental care, bus fares, leisure cards, school meals and school buses are not included in the cap

Peachy · 24/01/2012 19:18

cece- Government is wanting to give councils chance to opt out of awarding council tax benefit.

Anyone know how free schoolmeals will be set once UC comes in? Seen no details on that: ATM if you get 1p in TCs you are ineligible- plenty low paid workers and struggling self employed finding that.

Child benefit- Giovernment has already stated using old law allowing them to overturn Lods decision on economic matters to take it through as palnned so CB will be; a shame, I was less opposed to the cap with the CB on top. Still wanted regionality but anyway.

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:20

nope no free bus fares not half pric ones either or uniform grants or cheaper school trips

OP posts:
Peachy · 24/01/2012 19:20

Well Talkin firstly free isn;t right- friend just paid her NHS dentist hundreds for dental work. Discounted yes.

Secoindly nobody actually knows; plans on how that will work not yet in teh wider doman AFAIK.

Free bus fares for benefit claimants? Quoi?

cece · 24/01/2012 19:21

Well council tax benefit is 100% not included in the £26,000. After April 2013 CTB ceases to exsist and it will be renamed Local Council Tax Support. It will therefore no longer be counted as a benefit and therefore not included.

I concede the CB hasn't been decided. Plus I am not 100% certain on the FSM, but as far as I know it isn't included; willing to be corrected on that one.

Also if you get a job that allows you to claim WTC then there is no cap to the amount of benefit that you can apply for.

Peachy · 24/01/2012 19:21

You do TwoIf

but where are all these low cost houses?

We don;t have any ehre to offer incomes for sure

If people are amde homeless is that OK? If theyc an't find anywhere?

Becuase once that sort of thing creeps in it satrts to cost the state far more, and destroying people's life chances to spend more is ridiculous.

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:23

cece

WTc will no longer exist from 2013 so there goes a saftey net

Peachy · 24/01/2012 19:25

CECE not all councils will necessarily offer LCT though which is hugely worrying.

Also, it's not just 'get a job': the hours required are quite strict. If i got a job for 20 hours (MR DLA hour rate as a carer) and Dh lost his business then unless he worked 36 hours we would still not get any access to UC unless he did workfare; but as I can only work if DH is home due to the SN needs, he couold not do workfare without me giving up my job, both rendering us ineligible for any help

cece · 24/01/2012 19:26

True but it is going to be replaced by UC. However, the rules are pretty complicated but the support for workers will still be there.

cece · 24/01/2012 19:27

Peachy, I think you will find they do have to apply it.

Peachy · 24/01/2012 19:27

THC true although an element should be built in to UC for that. Won;t be much though,

But wait until all the naice tory voting people in cities with cheap areas find their schools and GPS are over sunscribed, their hip operation will take tice as long as in Chelsea and their Mum can't get help with independent living becuase social services has ahd to massively stretch to include more displaced families. That will be a huge bombshell!

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:29

cece

no one knows if it will be as it be one admin not broken down into well you get ctc and Is and you get CTC and WTc can see going to be lot of headaches bringing it it

OP posts:
Peachy · 24/01/2012 19:29

Cece I am sure I read plans to make it optional last week. councils to decide,. tranted far from apssed in PArliament yet though.

And it won't be support for generic workers like now, but support for families where every aprent works or alternatively workfare. the cut off limit for compulsory hours is just under £18k which makes oyu wonder if that is where limit will sit...

cece · 24/01/2012 19:31

I will have to duck out now!

DH has stropped off and I know nothing about any of it.... LOL

NormaStanleyFletcher · 24/01/2012 20:02

THC, (and HC if she sees this). I just want to say that I feel incredibly lucky. We both work, and not dependent on any benefits. I don't begrudge you getting whatever benefits you need, and am glad if the tax I pay

NormaStanleyFletcher · 24/01/2012 20:06

THC, (and HC if she sees this). I just want to say that I feel incredibly lucky. We both work, and not dependent on any benefits. I don't begrudge you getting whatever benefits you need, and am glad if the tax I pay goes towards them. The details you have posted on here, and your arguments have made the unfairness of the blanket cap clear to me.

What was it someone said about the Tories putting the 'n' into cuts?

NormaStanleyFletcher · 24/01/2012 20:08

Oops

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 20:19

Thank you Norman . Smile

Perhaps your DS1 could make a packed lunch for £1 - which would put £225 or £4.50 per week back into your spending money. Perhaps your DS1 could get a Saturday job to put £8 per week towards his bus fares - another £5 per week when spread evenly over the year.

Do you actually get 12 months of council tax benefit or does it match off against the 10 months of payments that council tax is charged over?

I obviously don't think it is easy, but I think that sixth formers really benefit from getting a job if they can.

ILoveGreggsSausageRolls · 24/01/2012 20:45

Op you need to get your lazy xh off his arse and paying for his DC.

Also there is no reason your eldest should not get a part time job and pay his own bus fare. Plus the dinner money needs to stop. He can make sandwiches or pay himself. He is almost an adult

VeryLittleGravitas · 24/01/2012 21:09

Everyone is missing the point of the school lunches.

Even if TCH's children take packed lunches to school, UC calculations will still take the cost of the school dinners out of her award.

School dinners cost £3 per head...UC count that as income (even if you don't clain for 'free' dinners) and reduce your final benefit payment accordingly.

So by taking packed lunches she is effectively paying twice over.

VeryLittleGravitas · 24/01/2012 21:17

Claiming maintenance just got a whole lot harder as well. You need an upfront payment of £100 before the CSA will touch your case, plus they deduct a further 12% for their expenses.

Jeez...it's like killing zombies. You guys just don't fucking quit.

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 21:19

Breathe

Ds1 is at collage he leaves at 7.30 home about 6.30

What would you like me to to make xh pay for his dc , he quit his job remarried has another child and is on benefits so I get the maxium he can pay and ironic as him and his wife don't work bug only have one dv and only rent a 2 bed there goung to be well under the £26000 cap so not affected at all

Oh and ds1 has been applying for part time work on weekends/evenings but it us tough going a lot want him over 18 or hours in week which he cam not do
