26000 cap what it would mean to me

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 10:10

ok some of you ahve complained about the £26000 Benfits capped and then slammed into hunty cat for having to much money left

so to balance it out this how £26000 would be broke down for myself as single parent with 4dc

.£26000 straight away 13200 would have gone to the LL .

so thats £12800

left .Discount Cb as peoplle up to £40000 can earn so tale away £3534 approc

so im now down to 9256 .Tale away council tax Benfit thats me down to £7886 .

thats then down to £151 a week
they will then tale of teh free school dinners have 3dc that entitled ( only 1 has but they will do the sums based on what they are entitled to ) so £6 a day times 5 is £30

£121 left take of £15 for water £20 for gas and £20 for electric bearing in mind most wil be on card/key meters taht charge more

would leave me £56 a week for food and clothes and any extras

Now relook at the figures again that im in h/a at £126 a week my hb is £6652

so think the problem lies when your forced into private rented a large amount of your money is swallowed up by Hb .And remember not all LL will takke Hb so often you pay a preimum for sometime substandard accomidation as they are aware that people can not move

And lets also remember those that are working in low income of £18000 Pa will also recieve top ups too of CB , WTC and CTC

I was agreeing. 26K benefits is the same as 35K earnt.

MrsHeffley · 24/01/2012 18:47

Yep it's hard isn't it,add in the thousands many have to pay for train fares to work, other work expenses, higher water bills in SW which don't get capped if you're not on benefits,prescriptions.....

Not getting your point really.

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 18:48

they do need to look at HB not being involved

you could have 2 exact familys same income but one in Private rented and one in H/A and the second family would have arund £6000 extra to spend

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 18:49

heffly do the sums just over £5000 a year left to feed dc, clothes/shoe/house hold equipment a year

Peachy · 24/01/2012 18:54

It is norris but 26k earned often attracts benefits (always really due to CB) whereas £26k total

MrsHeff you seem unable to recognise a great many people mon benefits ARE working; 80% of HB claimants are NOT unemployed. Do you think DH does not have to pay petrol etc? That we get it free becuase we are low income? And tell em about water bills; my entire family in Somerset

norriscoleforpm · 24/01/2012 18:55

mrs heffley excellent point! prescritpions, dentist costs, petrol, (am I allowed to say mortgage?)

norriscoleforpm · 24/01/2012 18:55

*prescriptions obviously.

norriscoleforpm · 24/01/2012 18:56

we get no extra except cb.

MrsHeffley · 24/01/2012 18:58

You could save on school dinners for a start, they are a luxury imvho. Mine don't have them as far too expensive.Packed lunches far cheaper. You could also cut down on gas and electric, don't think we pay that much.

MrsHeffley · 24/01/2012 18:59

Any benefit will qualify for water capping. If you only receive CB you get zilch. Fair-I don't think so.

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:03

ah mrs Heffley if entiled to free school dinners .They will class that as part of the benefits, whether my dc eat the dinners or not .It will still be included theres no opt out choice

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:04

card and key metres charge far more and often your not entitled to change to DD as considered high ris

Our dc have packed lunches. Dh shops ridiculously sensibly, getting all the bargains at the end of the day in the major supermarkets. We have shopped around constantly for the best gas/electricity prices and change them as often as we need to. We have a fair few debts from when i was out of work and we got no help with housing (mortgage) and so we live as simply as possibly without 'depriving' the children. We have milk delivered so we can get stamps for our christmas meat etc. It is hideously frustrating when we earn a reasonable amount between us and both work incredibly hard but that's the way it is! Water rates particularly annoy me!

norriscoleforpm · 24/01/2012 19:05

I do agree that electricity and gas meters are wrong and a massive rip off. I think something should be done about that.

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:05

oh and remember your dc do get free prescription/dentist etc so not paying for all of you

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:06

norris

there will not be a opt out option they will say your entitled to them so we shall take it of your benefit .Not our problem if your dc wont eat them

TwoIfBySea · 24/01/2012 19:07

Um, I get by on around £15000 per annum, that is including wtc. I don't get hb (wouldn't anyway on a mortgage) or council tax rebate (other than for single parent thing which anyone living alone can get) or free school meals.

I'm getting really fed up with the poor me's complaining that their handouts aren't enough.

norriscoleforpm · 24/01/2012 19:09

But the amount me and dh have to pay kind of makes up for that sadly. A check up is £35 round here. I have to have two fillings next week and that will be £140. I have no idea how we will budget it in, but I have no choice.

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:10

two by sea have you added ctc to it? what perecntage is your matienace

OP posts:
norriscoleforpm · 24/01/2012 19:10

*twoifbysea' I admire your bravery. You will be severely reprimanded.

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:11

mortgage*

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 19:12

how many dc do you have becuase that will make a differance and sorry but i can not get a mortgage becuase bet that would redeuce amount going out

OP posts:
cece · 24/01/2012 19:13

Free school meals, council tax benefit and possibly child benefit would not be included in the £26,000

Peachy · 24/01/2012 19:16

TwoIf I can't answer for toehrs but am not coimplaining or asking for a rise at all

But I think the formula is wrong; I think it should allow for regional variability- I don't live in the South East but don't see why someone lilving there should be penalised unfairly for that. If they ahve responsibiltiies to keep them there, eg a PT job or caring responsibility, it should be considered.

We don't have £26k either, we ae OK: but only beuase we live in Newport.

And you know what? I don't want thousands of dispalced people ehading our way. there are no jobs here as it is; school has hundreds more pupils than space as strange local admission policy; hospital waits are ridiculous. Why should people already in low income areas be penalised for that? It won'r just be ('just') claimants- anyone living somewhere cheap and accessing state services from schools to hospitals to elderly services will be a loser.
