26000 cap what it would mean to me

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 10:10

ok some of you ahve complained about the £26000 Benfits capped and then slammed into hunty cat for having to much money left

so to balance it out this how £26000 would be broke down for myself as single parent with 4dc

.£26000 straight away 13200 would have gone to the LL .

so thats £12800

left .Discount Cb as peoplle up to £40000 can earn so tale away £3534 approc

so im now down to 9256 .Tale away council tax Benfit thats me down to £7886 .

thats then down to £151 a week
they will then tale of teh free school dinners have 3dc that entitled ( only 1 has but they will do the sums based on what they are entitled to ) so £6 a day times 5 is £30

£121 left take of £15 for water £20 for gas and £20 for electric bearing in mind most wil be on card/key meters taht charge more

would leave me £56 a week for food and clothes and any extras

Now relook at the figures again that im in h/a at £126 a week my hb is £6652

so think the problem lies when your forced into private rented a large amount of your money is swallowed up by Hb .And remember not all LL will takke Hb so often you pay a preimum for sometime substandard accomidation as they are aware that people can not move

And lets also remember those that are working in low income of £18000 Pa will also recieve top ups too of CB , WTC and CTC

Wow some people are so harsh about people trying to survive.

Yes £142 is not starving...but those of you who are so helpful to point that out
-do you have a mortage?
-savings?
-car that's not likely to pack up at anytime?
-good credit history to repair/replace appliances if anything packs up?

It's not that someone can't feed or clothe themselves on that amount, it's that there is no chance of putting any away for a rainy day. you can never get ahead.

But it's easy to judge when you have savings/ credit card/ house to sell.

Subsidised trips kick in at secondary....so a £450 history trip to Somme/battlefields will be reduced to around £150

Milk/fruit/veg tokens at £3.10 a week for each child under 4 and free vitamins

Free eye tests/glasses/prescription

£25 cold weather payment when it's below zero for 5 consecutive days

School uniform grant

Interest free budgeting loans repaid At a few £ taken weekly from benefits ( up to £1500) this is usually how the posh tv is afforded
These are the hidden 'other' benefit

Bikeability.....free cycling proficiency with a free bike voucher (£150)

Upon being accepted for

GypsyMoth · 24/01/2012 14:13

A job you then get a run on of benefits and clothing for interviews are paid for too

Evilclown · 24/01/2012 14:14

On the Directgov website there is a page about applying for help with school uniform costs.

Taken from said page.

In England some local authorities provide discretionary grants to help with buying school uniforms. Local authorities that offer these grants set their own criteria for eligibility

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 14:18

key word is some

and Gypsy ds2 is at secondry and they do not lower the trip costs all tyvm

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 24/01/2012 14:25

A few don't, perhaps, but it's a key issue that some still do! Enough for it to be on the gov website

GypsyMoth · 24/01/2012 14:26

Don't all schools have 'hardship' funds??

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 14:30

nope 3dc at 3 schools and no help

ragged · 24/01/2012 14:38

Thanks for being so open with your figures, OP, but what rshipstuff said also applies. Does this all just mean you'll have to move house? Please come back here when you have firmer numbers, MNers are good at helping people find savings.

I am very confused when OP said "I can not have more than £26000 in benfits including CB", because CB Is excluded from the cap, it was all over news last night. Has OP ignored that all thru the thread??

I know a family of 6 who manage on about the same as you can expect, OP, they belong to a gym, have kids in activities, sponsor a child in Africa and travel 5 months of the year (mostly Europe). They think it's laughable that they are rated as far below the poverty line. So it is doable if still hard work.

MrsHeffley · 24/01/2012 14:44

I feed 5 on £80 a week,no school dinners(can't afford it) we eat well.£140 a week sounds a lot to me.

TheLightPassenger · 24/01/2012 14:46

wow, you have balls of steel opening up your finances to this level of scrutiny, well done.

It's clear that private rental levels and housing prices seem to cause much of the financial burden. And health/disability does increase costs while decreasing chances of working , and HC and I am sure plenty other fall between the gaps in the system of not being accepted for disability benefits etc

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 14:48

ragged

it was defeated last night but the goverment is planning to force it through

they are definte figures

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 14:49

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 14:53

OP posts:
bobbysmum07 · 24/01/2012 15:15

142 quid a week for sitting on your backside doing nothing sounds like a pretty good deal to me. If you want more, stop whinging, get out and get a job.

GypsyMoth · 24/01/2012 15:16

Then provide extra food?

OctonautsOnRepeat · 24/01/2012 15:33

bobbysmum why don't you think before you judge?! you have no idea of OPs life or why she is claiming. She has no choice.

if you're not going to help, why don't you start your own thread with 'advice for whingers'? Angry

Peachy · 24/01/2012 15:38

CB is included in cap so not on top.

And YY to judging. I'd LOVE to get a job (plan to soon I hope)- I happen to think anyone with ehalthy or NT kids is the lucky bugger; I;d give anything not to have kids that need me at home for SN reasons.

Funny isn't it, how our value systems differ? So many talk about 'other having more' meaning cash* when I see not having to deal with special schools and lifelong care needs as having ore.

OctonautsOnRepeat · 24/01/2012 15:42

You're damn right Peachy.

Some people have no idea how hard it is with SN and SN DCs. But I'd rather I had DS as he is and taught him compassion and sympathy, than he grows up with a 'lazy scroungers should be shot' mentality.

Just shows the agenda setting by the media works. All these people taken in and thinking that life on benefits is a doddle.

Is it chuff. Angry

MamaMaiasaura · 24/01/2012 15:43

I think it's crazy that people can and are financially better off on benefits. £26k tax free is a huge amount IMO

OctonautsOnRepeat · 24/01/2012 15:44

I can't believe anyone would resent Catapult anything.
