26000 cap what it would mean to me

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 10:10

ok some of you ahve complained about the £26000 Benfits capped and then slammed into hunty cat for having to much money left

so to balance it out this how £26000 would be broke down for myself as single parent with 4dc

.£26000 straight away 13200 would have gone to the LL .

so thats £12800

left .Discount Cb as peoplle up to £40000 can earn so tale away £3534 approc

so im now down to 9256 .Tale away council tax Benfit thats me down to £7886 .

thats then down to £151 a week
they will then tale of teh free school dinners have 3dc that entitled ( only 1 has but they will do the sums based on what they are entitled to ) so £6 a day times 5 is £30

£121 left take of £15 for water £20 for gas and £20 for electric bearing in mind most wil be on card/key meters taht charge more

would leave me £56 a week for food and clothes and any extras

Now relook at the figures again that im in h/a at £126 a week my hb is £6652

so think the problem lies when your forced into private rented a large amount of your money is swallowed up by Hb .And remember not all LL will takke Hb so often you pay a preimum for sometime substandard accomidation as they are aware that people can not move

And lets also remember those that are working in low income of £18000 Pa will also recieve top ups too of CB , WTC and CTC

Not enough as there are too many people claiming benefits, cap or no cap.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 24/01/2012 23:35

Bobbysmum - you really should work for the government - they too are unable to see the wood for the trees.

bobbysmum07 · 24/01/2012 23:36

Well I don't expect this to be a popular opinion among you lot. I bet 80% of people who frequent these boards are on Carer's Allowance.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 24/01/2012 23:37

Yes - there are far too many people claiming benefits. No arguement there.

It doesn't take a genius to come up with other ways of sorting the country out without taking it away from those genuinely in need... you could start with the politicians themselves, or the bankers....

forkful · 24/01/2012 23:38

SometimesIquestionmyownsanity - does your company do childcare vouchers which you could sacrifice salary for in return for vouchers which would not be subject to tax and NI.(*)

£2,850 Before and after school club at £5 per hour
£1,300 childcare during school holidays at £20 per day
Total annual childcare bill = £4,150. £2,916 of this could be tax and NI free - saving - £933 in tax and NI.

Do you have a DP who could earn childcare vouchers? Do you have an ex DP who pays maintenance?

(*) Disclaimer - I don't understand the interaction between these and child tax credits. Can anyone help?

BTW £32.5k is take home of £24.5k on a normal tax code. See Salary Calculator.

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 23:38

£270m.

Sound like a lot, until you compare that to the £53bn paid in benefits to those earning above average income

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 24/01/2012 23:38

Bobbymum

MmeLindor. · 24/01/2012 23:38

80% on what board? On MN?

What a ridiculous assumption.

bobbysmum07 · 24/01/2012 23:39

And following on from my previous post about too many people claiming benefits - why wouldn't they? I mean, why work when you can get paid 30 grand a year for sitting at home watching telly all day or looking at the internet?

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 24/01/2012 23:39

I would put a lot of money on the fact that nowhere near 80% of Mumnetters are given a carers allowance.

bobbysmum, have you been spending bobbys child benefit on illegal substances ?? Shock

I'm guessing you must be on some good shit to be spouting the rubbish you are can I have some?

HoneyandHaycorns · 24/01/2012 23:45

There are some very mean-spirited people on this thread. Hmm

I have read all the posts, and several other related threads & articles, but I am still struggling to know how this cap will actually be applied. Can anyone point me to a reliable source of info re the following:

  • will free school meals, free prescriptions etc be included in the £26,000 or not? I had read that they wouldn't but OP says that they will count towards the maximum sum.
  • what will happen to families who are made homeless as a result of this? Will there be extra money for the b&b costs or will this come out of the £26,000 allowance?
  • If I understand correctly, OP has said that disabled people will be subject to the cap when DLA is replaced with PIP, but I thought that people on disability benefits were supposed to be exempt (with the key exception of ESA which I believe is included)
  • what, if anything, will be the significance of switching to the universal credit in terms of how people are affected by the cap ?

I keep reading such conflicting statements about what might or might not happen. It would be good to have some hard facts from a reliable source.

Bobbysmum - you sound just like a guy I work with called Nigel.

Nigel is an idiot with an empathy bypass who thinks that we should return to the days of Dickens.

TheHumancatapult · 25/01/2012 04:49

Ilovegreggs he got signed if by the Gp onto incapacity benefits ( mind he did try for DLA but got turned down for that )

So he gets incapacity benefit though he has been told have to be JSA for him and his wife and their new baby . Take him to court why because as it stands he us paying what he has too

And I agree they need to relook at the fact that someone like him will be well under the cap , where I'm going to be punished for bringing the dc up

I agree there needs to be a cap somewhere bit they need to look at sendiavke Regional variations on the HB sidE

I love greggs don't see you posting your incoming and outgoings on here ?

Oh and please read all my posts the Internet is essential for me , I can't drive or wheel to a shop , so how do you think I should get food in , how would you like me to bank . Let alone it does give me a chance to socialise

Essentials welcome to life on cardmeters those costs if anything are on the low side

That's the thing move you say but where to google Harlow it is not exactly the top place to live infect lot are trying to leave the area

What's the answer I don't know but

  1. I like to see HB taken into account

  2. yes maybe something being done that one parent can leave have smaller new family who not be affected by the cap ( yes that one I admit is personal )

  3. that things are slowed down and it is looked at more carefully before being rushed through and implemented

  4. that those who have got personal on here never ever find themselves in the position I did

Bobbysmum

Would you like to cone to my house and check that my kids are not neglected and that I'm really paralysed by all means or perhaps your like to see my MRI or letters from the spinal team , maybe you heard of Stanmore .
There ate people on mn that have met me in RL who can vouch for the fact I really am

Oh and yes I do post in flurries your be pleased to gear no kids were harmed or neglected while making these posts GrinOh and don't know about you but my kids do go to school so now amd then I have a bit of free time to discuss things

So please that's a cheap shot. Oh and lat time I checked you have no right to question me on carers.
Infact your be pleased to hear that is counted as a income so is taken into account for any benefits I claim.so if we want to be technical about things then I'm working
So now we established that do you think I can question you on how you spend your money

Ilovegregs

Thank you for apologising

Honey

Yes I admit at the moment I will be exempt.

But as it stands under PIP I ell not qualify as they reckon a wheelchair means I'm mobile ( but that is another issue ) so will lose my protection

Ds3 gets mrc but the protection May well only be applied to high rate care I will face job condtions

Also you will no longer be able to be disabled and a carer not that you can stop being either

At the moment I choose not to claim incapacity benefits but under the new rules I'm goung to have to claim ESA because carers on mrc will still have condtions attached to any claim

And guess maybe since no cater the state may need to puck up the bill . That's 370 a week minimum average £10 a hour not charged more for weekends or night time

Then guess I would then need to claim all the social care that I may need abd choose not to at the moment , as I can do things slowly throughout the day , can grab a nap when I need it

But hey ho anyone else want to flame my arse flame away lol it's numb so I can not feel it anyway Wink

im going to step away from the thread now as its switched from being abut simple figures to becoming a personal question and yes from some quarters a personal attack.T

Thank you to those who were willing to discuss it sensiable even if you disagreed with me , without stooping to personal abuse .Hope some people have been able to see it is not quite all black and white

And for those that stooped to making it personal and felt they had to question my personal life and to outright call me a liar and question whether im disabled .So be it end of day I know the truth and so do others

but will leave the figures to stand and the above posts where yes i agree something needs to be done , but that it needs looking at carefuly not rushing through

these are the amened figures rom my first post where was rough area these are from p2 where i sat down and did it all properley

£26000

£13200 to the Landlord

£1950 council tax benefit times 12

1065 free school dinners £7.10 a day.

Eletric £1040

gas £1040

Water £720

outgoings of £17950

£375 add in dinners for ds1 at collage consertive £2.50 a day

£240add in his top of £8 bus fares

rent top of £1200 a year

someone ele can checik as doing on paper but ima round £21515.

o infact thats quite scary what have left from £26000

now divide that by 52 weeks a year £4485
and yes i have not added Child benefit to the the total as adding it or not will make no differance as Gverment have admitted they intend to push it through and it will be counted as part of the total Cap

*£86 to feed and clothe and anything else needed all 5 of us

OP posts:
callmemrs · 25/01/2012 07:07

That's not dissimilar to the figures many working families are operating on- except that often there's childcare bills of up to £40/50 per child per day (when they are pre school; rather less if school age ) to factor in too. I know when we had dc2 we went into debt to pay childcare until she started school because we didn't have enough money coming in to cover outgoings. Never had any benefits.

Of course there needs to be a cap. People who don't receive benefits have a cap - ie the maximum they can earn!

House prices are way too high too, minimum wage needs to increase , and people who are living in houses they can't afford funded by the govt should be supported in their move to cheaper areas- but at the end of the day of course there should be a cap. I don't know how anyone can seriously think otherwise

EssentialFattyAcid · 25/01/2012 07:08

HC prepay cards typically cost 15% more which is a disgrace. However some suppliers don't charge more for them, have you tried uswitch?

I would also suggest that your consumption is way higher than average. It may be that you need to use more than average but i would expect a family without health problems to spend much less than you are spending. Average costs are around £100 per month, so adding on 15% is still far less than in your own figures. Similarly water costs given may be your water costs but Are double the average so an extra £30 a month there.

In terms of moving there are Many many areas of the country where a 3 bed property can be rented for less than £1000 per month, right move would give you an idea.

EssentialFattyAcid · 25/01/2012 07:14

On right move there are hundreds of nice looking 3 bed properties for rental at under £1000 per month within 40 miles of Harlow

EssentialFattyAcid · 25/01/2012 07:24

33 places with 3 beds at £900 or less within a 5 mile radius of Harlow are listed on rightmove

It is more difficult if you're home all day because you'll use more electricity.
(About the only financial advantage of being at work while my babies were small was that at least while I was paying virtually my entire income on nursery, at least the heating was off while we were out!)

Having said that there is a lot you can do to cut bills. Dh and me both work full time but have still had to recently have a complete blitz on electric as our bills were spiralling out of control. We now pile on the jumpers and blankets while sitting on the sofa of an evening and refuse to turn the heating on until much later. The kids have a timer for showers (electric showers use shedloads). I have poor circulation and feel the cold a lot but you do adjust after a while. After all, many of us were brought up with no central heating (when I was little we has a coal fire in the l

Lounge and nothing else and we all survived. Once you start looking , there are a lot of ways to cut the bill
