26000 cap what it would mean to me

TheHumancatapult · 24/01/2012 10:10

ok some of you ahve complained about the £26000 Benfits capped and then slammed into hunty cat for having to much money left

so to balance it out this how £26000 would be broke down for myself as single parent with 4dc

.£26000 straight away 13200 would have gone to the LL .

so thats £12800

left .Discount Cb as peoplle up to £40000 can earn so tale away £3534 approc

so im now down to 9256 .Tale away council tax Benfit thats me down to £7886 .

thats then down to £151 a week
they will then tale of teh free school dinners have 3dc that entitled ( only 1 has but they will do the sums based on what they are entitled to ) so £6 a day times 5 is £30

£121 left take of £15 for water £20 for gas and £20 for electric bearing in mind most wil be on card/key meters taht charge more

would leave me £56 a week for food and clothes and any extras

Now relook at the figures again that im in h/a at £126 a week my hb is £6652

so think the problem lies when your forced into private rented a large amount of your money is swallowed up by Hb .And remember not all LL will takke Hb so often you pay a preimum for sometime substandard accomidation as they are aware that people can not move

And lets also remember those that are working in low income of £18000 Pa will also recieve top ups too of CB , WTC and CTC

Why are there 1065 free school dinners at £7.10 a day? Either school dinners got ludicrously expensive (my DCs pay £1.80 a day each), or the school year is longer than the calendar year.

inmysparetime · 25/01/2012 08:05

Also, my council tax is split over 10 instalments, not 12 isn't that standard? Or does it work out differently with benefits? (not judging in any way, I'm just a stickler for maths)

inmysparetime · 25/01/2012 08:13

If you contact your energy company, there is a government backed tariff you should be able to access (I can't remember the exact name) where people on certain benefits can either get £150 towards their energy bills or access discounted tariffs. You may also be able to get free efficiency measures such as A rated appliances, to reduce your consumption.

TheHumancatapult · 25/01/2012 08:14

inmyspare time

your dinners are cheaper than here .Oh and LHA for Harlow for a 3 bed is £850 not 900 a month and how many of thise would take Hb

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 25/01/2012 08:17

essential

have a look becuase pretty much maybe one is available to HB if you can find the deposit and the rent in advance and you have someone to act as your gurantor.

most will not take the council gurantor and you infact need to be homeless to qualify

So schools down south can get away with charging £7.10 a day each for a child's school dinner!
I am truly shocked, that's more than you'd pay for an adult lunch in a restaurant.

TheHumancatapult · 25/01/2012 08:22

oh and going into debt is not a option .credit cards/overdrafts/bank loans are not available on benfits would mean that going to places like provident ( legal loan sharks or not so legal loa n sharks and once in that spiral it is a struggle to get out

i just did the total rate over a year

while not saying there does not need to be a cap .They do need to look at housing expenses .

For example same family situation but in LHA will be around £6000 a year better of

lockets free school dinners will be taken of whether my dc eat them or not

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 25/01/2012 08:25

lockets if your loosing Cb that means your dh salary is around 44000 gross so net around £32k so that is still £6k more

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 25/01/2012 08:29

Likek I Keep saying same family in LHA will be 6000 better of than someone private rented

so it does need a tad more thought added to it before it is forced through

But am stepping away from the thread now am tired of having o explain myself and defend myslef against others

I just wanted to balance out the idea that someone with benefits totalling £26000 is living the high life and has foreign holidays , expesive car and dont forget the 42 inch plasma screen.Oh and the free goatGrin

Reality is £86 a week to feed 5 people

Your talking about a 3 bedroom house in Harlow. That shouldn't be more Han council tax band D (could be less). Looking up Harlow district council's 2011/2012 charges that would be £1536 per year, not £1950. So that is £400 a year back in your pocket. I suspect the difference arises because council tax is only charged for 10 months of the year, but you have included it times 12.

bobby dc were at school in day ( im not at home for couple of days ) oh and theres a dam good reason I had time to post but dont need to explain in depth why to you.So infact my carers responbilites are taken more serious than you could know

and i think your find infact your in the mnority , not me becuase i noticed its the same names that pop up to on the attack and least others have the grace not to attack people personally .And glad you had time to couont how long i was on board and when ,did you search around the board for all my posstings too

oh and /just to point out im not in Harlow im slighly further over so rent is more and to point out that rent is for a 4 bed not a 3 .Ds1 andds2 share ,dd has own room , ds3 has to have own room plus mine

But that really is it .I was just giving a view point that were not all raking it in as Dm and bobbysmum seem to believe .

thank you to those that can dicuss like adults even when disagree and those that throw toys out your pram well that says far more about you than me

Why arn't you at work bobbysmum?

OctonautsOnRepeat · 25/01/2012 09:49

Just ignore them THC, they are not worth it.

You're doing fab, especially taking care of 4 kids as well as yourself.

The poisenous posts say more about them than they do about you.

Feel sorry for the children brought up by such bitter people. Hope their kids have no reason to claim in the future, they would be shunned!

bradbourne · 25/01/2012 09:57

Haven't read all the thread, but don't understand much of your logic.

For example, I still don't understand the bit about free school meals - they will not be included in the assessment of benefit income, so why are you subtracting the figure from your income?

callmemrs · 25/01/2012 10:02

This is all getting a bit ridiculous! Yeap, it's tough times but I honestly think that looking at the figures, very many working families have to survive on the figures given or less. Plus they also have the pressure and stress of organising and paying for childcare, meeting work targets etc
(posted from work during my 10 minute coffee break before anyone accuses me of slacking!)

MmeLindor. · 25/01/2012 10:15

It is a shame when people come on to a thread like this to berate a woman who is merely trying to show people that life is not flat screen TVs and foreign holidays when you are on benefits.

No one is saying that it is right that hard-working people earn just slightly more than those on benefits - as benefits are paid to ensure a BASIC standard of living.

So if two people are working hard and still only earning enough to pay for a BASIC standard of living, there is something far far wrong with our country.

And it is not the benefit scroungers.

Callmemrs said

Having said that there is a lot you can do to cut bills. Dh and me both work full time but have still had to recently have a complete blitz on electric as our bills were spiralling out of control. We now pile on the jumpers and blankets while sitting on the sofa of an evening and refuse to turn the heating on until much later. The kids have a timer for showers (electric showers use shedloads). I have poor circulation and feel the cold a lot but you do adjust after a while. After all, many of us were brought up with no central heating (when I was little we has a coal fire in the lounge) and we all survived

Yes, fine. Survived. Does no one think it is ridiculous that you are doing a full time job (not sure what you and your DH do) and are not able to put the heating on?

Yes, we survived. We also used to (mostly) survive childhood illnesses that are now very rare due to vaccinations and advances in modern medicine.

We survive into adulthood because we have airbags and seatbelts in cars.

We live in one of the wealthiest countries in the world and a disabled mother of 4 kids is being told to switch the heating off and pile on jumpers.

I am not taking a dig at you, Callmemrs, just don't understand why you accept that you should have to live like this and instead put the blame on others who are even less fortunate than yourself.
