BREAKING NEWS: P&G win gold on the mumsnet family awards (which they sponsor)

iloveberries · 03/11/2011 14:25

Anyone else a bit cynical about this and think that P&G have basically 'bought' the award. My best friend and husband used to work there (how i met him) and I can guarantee they are anything BUT family friendly to work for!!!

OP posts:
josephinebonaparte · 04/11/2011 10:21

The reason the family awards stink of shit is because a company has won a gold award despite no real employees being able to say a good thing about them, and there's some kind of autotron on this thread spouting verbatim stuff from the P & G website whilst denying having any connection with the company and having past threads bigging up P & G products. Then MNHQ saying that there doesn't seem to be a connection. MNHQ are all intelligent people, you'd have to be blind to not suspect Mindthegapp isn't a P & G plant.
My friend works as a digital media manager for another blue chip company. They pay people specifically to come on fora and promote stuff. Mindthegapp just isn't very good at it.

JustineMumsnet · 04/11/2011 10:21

@JaneBirkin

Oh thanks Justine Smile

It's the script isn't it. That's what's so dreadful, please stop the script forthwith. Having love MNHQ in staid typecase was avant garde and even postmodern. It worked.

The flowing weirdy writing does make it look like a Nigella email. Will take a look at the thread.

Well we are trying to make it look a bit less texty because feedback said it was. But you're not the only one to comment on that, so maybe we'll go back to the drawing board on that one...

ssd · 04/11/2011 10:22

jesus, who cares how they end a newsletter?

they can write "bye bye hun, love ya xxxxx" for all I care

its whats in the newsletters that count, not the bloody goodbye

LeBOF · 04/11/2011 10:24

I notice Justine doesn't quote ME anywhere. After I called her a radiant pearl and everything. And I was extremely oblique in suggesting she had a cupboard full of free samples

JaneBirkin · 04/11/2011 10:24

Cheers Justine Smile

sorry to sound so rude. I didn't know you were listening.

SSD it's a comment on the general 'dumbing down' which I am really scared of, whether or not it's really happening yet. I don't want us to turn into Netmums. I don't want folk to come across from other sites and try to change the way we are because it's more mass market.

You have to be so careful or you end up being another branch of Next.

RogerMelly · 04/11/2011 10:27

very suprised to hear this. Have boycotted P&G for years

Well that just isn't true - we spoke to lots of their employees - I'm going to get the auditor on to talk you through the process.

And Mindthegapp has been posting on Mumsnet since 2004 posting under a different name legitimately. She is not a plant - or if she is she's been a sleeper for the last 7 years!

ssd · 04/11/2011 10:28

jane, I've been here for 8 yrs and nothings changed

there are always posters who dont want the site to change (ooohhh the horror), moan about the cliques, the adverts, the MNHQ decisions, oh christ i could go on

just let it roll

How do you know about my cupboard [stern look]

Out of interest which other companies were in the running?

Look, this is not a game of how the fuck long have you been here. Grin

I've been here 5 years. EVERYTHING's changed.

I just don't want it to change any more.

WhollyGhost · 04/11/2011 10:32

will be interesting to hear from the auditor because, as has been pointed out, the survey was badly flawed

I suspect that statistical analysis is not a strong point at MNHQ Grin

JaneBirkin · 04/11/2011 10:34

I do think MTG needs a qord about not posting disingenuously. No admission at all of having worked for P&G a large blue chip company (whatever that is) while on previous posts she's said this

and saying that P&G products are just superior

I mean really?

I thought there was something about this in the posting rules.

BornSicky · 04/11/2011 10:35

thanks for the clarification, Justine.

It's the thread title and then the quote saying that P&G were a "partner" that gave me that impression.

JaneBirkin · 04/11/2011 10:35

qord = quick word. completely accidental but strangely logical contraction.

GetOrfMo1Land · 04/11/2011 10:37

If Mumsnet ended the newsletters 'bye bye hun' the whole bloody website would explode.

I have just read the thread - interesting and slightly hysterical. I have worked for large blue chips my whole career, and most of them have proudly and triumphantly proclaimed their family friendly policies. Which is great. But most senior jobs you have to work more than the standard 37 hours per week, 50-60 is the norm. Yes there are ways in which you can leave the job on time, but of you do so you are on a distinct 'mummy track'. This has been my experience in private sector, and I have worked in the public sector and the presenteesim and pressure is very similar to my private sector jobs (you just have a lot nicer benefits, and can take lieu time etc).

I am rather cynical about surveys like this - not necessarily in the way they are conducted, but the fact that despite a company having policies in place, it doesn't necessarily transfer to the coal face.

I am not cynical wrt Mumsnet's management of this - yes they are primarily a business and to succeed they have to make commercial decisions, however I have never got the sense that MN have put their commercial aims above that of the general ethos of the site. They cancelled News International advertising in the wake of the NOTW scandal, removed that I Want Great Care link when asked, remove links to plasticanuses.com (or whatever the sex site was called) when pulled up on it. I have never seen evidence that MN sells their users down the river for commercial gain.

Cortina · 04/11/2011 10:38

Thanks

GetOrfMo1Land · 04/11/2011 10:38

Jane - reading it all this morning in the cold light of say, the way MTG was posting looks like she had been at the funny fags Grin
