Her appeal is being heard at the moment, and there is a good chance she'll be freed.
So who did kill Meredith?
If she and her ex boyfriend are deemed innocent, I hope the Italian police will continue to look into the case and get some justice for her.
I don't understand why they say the DNA is flawed, or have Knox's parents just managed to hire some very smart lawyers?
It's such a sad case.

Don't bother, begonya. I want to put my fist through the screen just watching his ratty little face.

I can't believe what he's saying. Shock

Portofino · 04/10/2011 09:33

Oh yes - the Daily Mail!

I seem to remember that on a much earlier thread about this there was a lot of discussion about AK & RS having bought mops & buckets & bleach the next day, & that there was almost no evidence of AK living in that house at all because it had been so thoroughly cleaned.

Did this come from evidence? Was it disproved?

Portofino · 04/10/2011 09:42

There was no evidence of a clean up, and the bleach story was unreliable. The shop owner told her friend who was a reporter that she saw them, but a worker in the shop said that they were not there.

LittlePumpkinHead · 04/10/2011 09:47

The reactions just go to show how effective the media is at influencing opinion, whether there is any veracity in the 'facts' they present.

The reason so many people have a 'feeling' about AK is down to this, rather than any truth about the matter. There are many lives that have been destroyed by this baying for blood and sensationalising of the story - Chris Jefferies is just one example. Lot's of people had a 'feeling' about him as well, including those working in the news industry who saw this as a justification to go through his life with a toothcomb and find any oddities as a reason that he must be guilty.

The only thing we can rely on is correct procedure by the police and the justice system. As the former didn't happen in this case we have to accept the verdict that there is no evidence sufficient to convict them. Any further villifying because of personal opinion about the type of person you think AK is (and RS seems to be left out of the character assasinations) just highlights your own lack of ability to see through the crap you are presented with by the gutter press.

Ponders · 04/10/2011 09:48

ah, ok - thanks, Porto

LittlePumpkinHead · 04/10/2011 09:49

Sorry that was to Keep and others before, slow typing!

BupcakesandCunting · 04/10/2011 09:51

The owner of the shop also didn't "remember" seeing Amanda buying bleach until a year after the murder. He was questioned at the time and said that he hadn't seen her/Raffaele in the shop immediately before or after the murder. IIRC.

BupcakesandCunting · 04/10/2011 09:53

Actually, I take it back, Matthew. He is talking a lot of sense about Amanda. Liz fucking McClarnon is a tabloid mouthbreather, however. Quelle surprise.

begonyabampot · 04/10/2011 09:59

Bup, he often does talk a lot of sense but has to be Devil's advocate sometimes and stir up the debate. that Liz woman is a nightmare and comes across quite tick - hope she never sits on jury, especially mine!

LittlePumpkinHead - agree completely.

begonyabampot · 04/10/2011 10:00

'tick' as in 'thick' but obviously I'm even thicker! Blush

DuelingFanjo · 04/10/2011 10:05

I have just watched the press conference with the Kercher family and really have so much respect for them. They are such educated and decent people who are now left wondering who the other people at the murder scene were. The Italian courts have truly bungled this whole thing, leaving a family believing there we're multiple murderers. They are correct to wait for the court report because that will hopefully explain the decision to free AK and RS given that they were so certain there was more than one person involved in the murder.

BupcakesandCunting · 04/10/2011 10:06

She is as thick as mince, that one. When she said "I wouldn't go into business with her" and MW asked "But why? She's innocent..." she said "Because of what happened before... she got done for murder." FOR WHICH SHE HAS BEEN CLEARED, YOU REACTIONARY FUCKWIT.

Daily Heil Elderly Bigot of the Future, she is.

prison sentence for misconduct

The "condemned" prosecutor being having been given both the duty and full permission from the GIP to investigate (including phone tapping) the judge who was accused by his underlings of blocking further investigation into the monster of florence case.

Only for Mignini to be charged of abuse of public office (illegal phone tapping) and brought to trial by said judge, and condemed in the tribunal that was under the investigation being run by the defndant (Mignini)

A conviction for which an appeal for a quashing is currently in the queue for being heard.

Which you can kind of understand given that if he had NOT run the investigation or been seen to NOT use all resources at his disposal, there would have been a water tight case against him for abuse of office in the blocking of an investigation. The same charges he faced BY running the investigation and using all premitted resources at his disposal.

A catch 22 like this is not unheard of here, you have a powerful and politically independant judicery that is required to keep an eye on each other to weed out any corruption or bad eggs.

Public officals get caught in the cross fire of judges investigating other judges. In this case the Tribunal of Perugia investigating the Tribunal of Florence for potential obstruction of justice, or similar.

None of this info, that places a rather less slanted light on Mignini, is hidden from the English speaking press.

BupcakesandCunting · 04/10/2011 10:12

I don't think that they were ever certain that there was more than one person involved in the murder. I think that they cooked up a scenario to place Amanda and Raffaele at the scene, because they wanted her to be guilty. I really do. The account that I linked to in the Chat thread yesterday, which placed only Guede at the scene and described his apparent movements made so much more sense.

They have royally fucked up. He's got 16 years for this. They were so hellbent on concentrating their efforts on Amanda and Raffaele, that Guede's trial became more of an afterthought, or a footnote to the trials of Amanda and Raffaele. Now it's all blown up in their face. The people they wanted to pin it on, it cannot be pinned on and the person who actually did it is going to get off in about twelve years. What justice is that for the Kerchers? And all for what? Because the media/prosecution got carried away with painting Amanda up as a Borgia-style murderess. Absolute farce.

heggertyhaggerty · 04/10/2011 10:13

' go through his life with a toothcomb'

Forgive me but it makes me wince when people say this. it's supposed to be a 'fine toothed comb'. All combs have teeth.

please stop it.

You do know RG chose fast track right ?

And part of that deal is a vastly reduced sentence in the case of a guilty verdict upheld in the final trial, in exchange for saving the court loads of time and money by avioding the 5 year plus standard tract trial.

bang on fastweb

abendbrot · 04/10/2011 10:48

fastweb - Mignini was accused of blocking in the 'Monsters of Florence' case, because he DID. Mignini was done for phone tapping in that case, he got an 18 month sentence for it. He was taken off the MK case. There is a massive consensus about who committed the MOF murders, and the finger points at someone, but Mignini has done his utmost to block this and avoid him getting prosecuted. (admit only scant knowledge of the details of this case though)

I believe the Kercher family have been seriously misled by him and I hope that one day they will get recourse to justice for his pushy bungling. He was by their side when the verdict was broadcast yesterday, and told them he was sorry.

He is also suing AK's parents for slander because they complained in an article in the Times about the way their daughter was treated.

Whatever you say about Mignini, anyone that interrogates a 20 year old foreign girl without a lawyer or a translator for 54 hours over 4 days and then uses that confession is incompetent for many reasons.

I would look into why Mignini was so keen for Lumumbe to be accused for this, thereby exonerating the 'son' of a respected local vending machine businessman (Caporali). Why did Mignini accept this 'confession' so quickly?

blinks · 04/10/2011 10:51

mignini was also implicated in the abduction of journalists investigating the MOF case.

blinks · 04/10/2011 10:52

and his theories in both cases involved wild sexual motivations for murder

abendbrot · 04/10/2011 10:57

fastweb as you know there are two (sometimes more) sides to every story.
