Just seen on Twitter and in a few articles like this, that there are meant to be plans for a riot in Enfield tonight and riot police are in the town centre?

Used to live there, and got family there (luckily a fair distance from the centre), but fucking hell! What the hell is going on?

debrs4 so sorry for you and your son Sad

MissBetsyTrotwood · 09/08/2011 07:42

I agree to a certain extent, noddy. It's that combined with an absence of any other values - family, political, educational, religious... whatever it might be that could enable a person to realise and understand that this behaviour is wrong. Toxic. Sad

MissBetsyTrotwood · 09/08/2011 07:43

How are things this morning debrs4 ?

teejwood · 09/08/2011 07:45

agree with betsy and fastweb
people were telling each other on twitter at around 1am there was no point in being in my neighbourhood because it was "done" and they should move to another area where there were still shops to rob Hmm

There is also zero respect and boundaries. I was on the bus the other day and a half dressed 15 yr old girl got on swearing like a trooper in front of all the old ladies saying how she was f'ing embarrassed that she had come ot with no f'ing make up and there was a fit bloke at the bus stop that she could have pulled and f,d if she had! All at 100 decibels and in front of a bus full of oaps. She was not under fed she had a snazzy phone and was was clearly not penniless.

downtothesea there are reclaimlondon and londoncleanup hashtags on twitter and people are mobilising to try and clear up their own areas; i think that is a great idea to show the little shits some people have dignity and decency but i think we may just need to check whether the police have all the forensics they need...

Eamon Holmes had Teresa May, the Home Secretary spluttering and stammering this morning when he asked her why they didn't bring in the army and water cannon. Her response was that in the UK we have a system of 'consensual' policing along with community and rejected his idea of army and water cannon.
He responded that the government were quite happy to bring in army and water cannon in his home country, Northern Ireland. She quickly changed the subject.

seriously rolling eyes at all the let's pretend crap, Sakura clearly hasn't lived in a flat like I did, where mindless yobs smashed windows, threw eggs at people and set bins on fire "for a laugh",..exactly the same idiots I have seen on TV looting.."serious political unrest" my arse.

debrs4 · 09/08/2011 08:01

Thanks all for your sympathy - means so much. Son still wobbly but has gone into work. I told him he did everything right by handing his stuff over because it is after all just stuff. . . But kids don't see it like that, do they? Although interestingly the thing he got most upset over was losing the photos and videos on his phone. Thanks all for your sympathy - means so much. "This is serious political unrest. It must be named for what it is."

A ha ha ha ha ha, a ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Thank you for providing a laugh in this horrible time.

great point

debrs4 · 09/08/2011 08:08

Apologies for posting same message twice.

annieversaire · 09/08/2011 08:09

serious political unrest? bollocks

bumpsoon · 09/08/2011 08:11

Forget water cannons , what the police need is a few willing volunteers from the country to come to the capital tonight in tractors with trailers full of slurry . A quick warning from the police ' disperse or you ( and your lovely new looted trainers) will be covered in liquid shit ' should make even the most hardened 'political activist' think twice , plus the stuff is as slippy as ,well, liquid shit !!!!!!

SleepDeprivedGrumpyBum · 09/08/2011 08:11

Here's my question. All those poor people who've lost their heritage through the looting and mindless thuggery, how will they reclaim their livlihoods? (can't spell this morning sorry) Do people think that insurance companies will pay out on any claims that are made? - Can't help but think of the first Icelandic volcano where insurance companies managed to avoid payment using the "act of God" get out.
Will some members of the community try and sue the police/government for various damages? Where would that money then come from if they were successful?

Surely these riots are going to cause more problems for the economy in the long term?

freybean · 09/08/2011 08:12

bumpsoon as much as i love that idea don't think its fair on the people who will have to clear it up Smile

noddyholder · 09/08/2011 08:15

The serious political unrest line will have them all laughing their heads off at all of us trying to wrack our brains for reasons as to why these poor looters are feeling so disenfranchised. They need people like us to enable them. Once they come to trial we will hear the same old bored spiel and some Birkenstock wearing social worker will say the community centre has been closed and this is the result. Lots of the twitter message are saying they just want stuff to sell and if he is hang it so am I. The sort of people who would benefit from a fairer system are probably not on the streets.

Marjoriew · 09/08/2011 08:15

That's where the long dole queues would come in handy - clearing up the mess.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/08/2011 08:16

would bet that most of the looters wouldn't even understand the term "serious political unrest"

noddyholder · 09/08/2011 08:16

Having it not hang it

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/08/2011 08:21

and they can't think beyond the term "free telly"

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/08/2011 08:21

also would be interesting to see if any of them (if old enough) had actually voted

teejwood · 09/08/2011 08:22

saw a tweet this morning that said a local mum and her baby were taken to hospital with burns after the shop under their flat was set slight Sad

DoingTheBestICan · 09/08/2011 08:22

Serious political unrest???

I bet these mindless thugs cant even name their local MP.

noddyholder · 09/08/2011 08:24

It is short sighted and not coming from anywhere with any brain engaged. This will take away the right to peaceful protest which would not suit these people as there is nothing in it for them as greedy individuals. My mum was a social worker for many years in the clapham area and she laughs at all the talk of sure start etc as she knows that the sort of people rioting never ever used any of these govt schemes and in the main used her and her team as a middle ground to see what they could get out of the system.
