A known offender shoots a policeman, luckily does not kill him, but the known offender gets shot dead. Tough. If you shoot anyone, especially a policeman, you deserve to get shot - not counting obvious self defence etc.

Now scum of the earth are rioting. Allegedly to protest against the guy killed but all I see on the news is scum with trolleys looting shops, setting fire to buildings, buses etc, and attacking people - emergency services as well as general public.

No thought for people living in flats above the shops they are burning. No thought for people trying to escape the area. No thought whatsoever.

What a bunch of scummy twats.

So now there will be job losses due to buildings being closed or burnt down, innocent people may have lost their homes and possessions, and lots of mess to tidy up which will incur costs for the area. Lots of innocent people hurt. Decent emergency service people putting their lives at risk. And thus more poverty and deprivation.

And all because a guy thought he had the right to shoot a policeman. And all his lowlife "supporters" who think it is ok to shoot a policeman.

When is this country going to wake up and see that so many people have zero principles, morals and values?

The actions which began with the criminal getting shot have escalated out of control. Unfortunately the police can't do much - thanks home office - but I wish they could send every single scumbag off to Afghanistan and let our decent soldiers come home. Or have the scum sent to the moon. The world would be a better place without all these lowlifes.

No justification for the riots at all n my eyes but I am sure that there will be people out there who think it was justified. Having read some of the comments on this thread there are people who think rioting is a reasonable response. My response to them is be a better person please.

Al0uiseG · 07/08/2011 08:01

The pictures this morning are shocking, the shops have been ransacked. Who'd have thought that a new mobile phone, a tv and a basket of body shop goodies would make all that police corruption better Hmm

Al0uiseG · 07/08/2011 08:03

Couldn't agree with you more cookcleanerchauffeuretc

jimblejambles · 07/08/2011 08:14

Well said cookcleanerchaufferetc

sfxmum · 07/08/2011 08:15

So the scumbags are to be sent to Afghanistan to fight for Britain in place of soldiers or to me trounced by the locals in a death penalty by proxy?

I am sorry this us happening 300 rioting does not mean the people of Tottenham

Also I have problems with "shoots at police deserves to get shot" it can certainly be a consequence but using the word 'deserve' does not sit well.
It is worth remembering that some of the police description of what happened in the De Menezes case was bull

It may have been legitimate it may have been lawful the people rioting are doing criminal damage and should be prosecuted but some if the talk here is troubling to say the least

I'm just out the area further out in NE London, teach at the other end of Ferry Lane though. Everyone is saying he was up to 'stuff' but was non-violent and had never committed any violence etc. Not saying it's true but it's the rumour in the community is that. Also the lack of info is fueling the rumours here which is adding to anger. Ferry Lane has been closed so every day traffic here is mad, thus bringing it to the fore-front of everyones minds looking for what happened daily on the commute. Ended up with 5 adults and 2 kids in a 2 bed flat last night rather than drop friends/ sister home nearby.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 07/08/2011 08:21

Sfxmum:

The guy who got shot was a known offender .... Not some law abiding citizen.

The guy tried to kill a policeman. That is wrong.

The bad guy got shot. Dead. Oh dear.

Message: don't shoot unless you can accept getting shot at.

People who riot like this, set fires to buildings, loot, put innocent people at risk are scum. They contribute nothing to society. It would be nice to get rid of them.

People who commit these crimes are not nice people.

De menses .... Should have stopped when told to, especially after what had just happened with 7/7 .... But that is a different argument.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 07/08/2011 08:23

And why the hell are there kids involved? Some look like they are under 10. Where the hell are there parents? They should get some fucking sense.

Scummy parents teaching their kids scummy lessons.

What the hell is going on in society?

Al0uiseG · 07/08/2011 08:27

Even charity shops have been looted! Feel terribly sorry for the non rioting people of Tottenham, the image of the lady holding a baby with a backdrop of a burning shop is imprinted on my mind; no thought was given to the people living in the flats above.

sfxmum · 07/08/2011 08:30

It is not a police state, the idea of deserving to be shot is a dangerous one.
De Menezes case I think it was established there were no warnings given.

Criminals should be punished but in a democracy there must be questions asked

herhonesty · 07/08/2011 08:32

really dismayed to read the totally judgemental threads on here this morning. of course there is no justification for rioting or shooting policmen but perhaps we should try and understand why these people feel so disenfranchised from society that they dont feel normal rules apply to them.

rioting is not a reasonable response, but neither is judging people in the way that some posters are. that doesnt improve anything.

sfxmum · 07/08/2011 08:34

Having said that I think there should be people ready to shot to kill, had he been a terrorist about to blow up the train then shooting was justified IMO
Mistakes made, it happens lying about it is not justified

And yes rioting and destroying property attacking emergency services is wrong

OP posts:
Al0uiseG · 07/08/2011 08:43

"Judge". Someone had to say it didn't they Hmm I thought we were having a discussion? There are children with armfuls of looted goods in Wood Green, these children have parents who are clearly negligent in allowing them into a looted area in the aftermath of riots.

FellatioNelson · 07/08/2011 08:45

Disadvantaged urban areas have had a truly alarming and massively increasing problem with gun crime and violence for the last few years - particularly 'black on black' gang related knife and gun crime. Though it is by no means confined to black people alone, it is a disproportionately black problem in urban areas. No point in beating about the bush over that one.

I don't see any of these poor frustrated citizens rising up together in defiance against that and rioting. Even though there is barely a week goes by without someone black, poor or both being shot/stabbed on a city street.

But a policeman shoots someone (to protect himself and the public at large) and all hell breaks loose. And we are expected to UNDERSTAND their frustration?

ledkr · 07/08/2011 08:48

i have been watching all night due to annoying baby,i have been wondering how many of the laughing, adrenaline fuelled rioters were actually mad about or knew the dead man? They didnt really look as if they were grieving to me. I am far from apolice supporter and i think the ipcc is a joke but these riots arent anymore than oppotunist criminals.

kingbeat23 · 07/08/2011 08:50

Wow, some of the views and attitudes on here have really surprised me and a thought process displayed that I haven't seen since the general election.

That people are believing everything that the press tells them is, to me, bizarre. Noone yet knows any of the facts and we may never know. Just because the press tells us something does not make it so.

There have been extensive arrests and raids over east and north east London since Wednesday due to the rising gang violence this summer and the police did not want an escalation over the summer months. This ended with the shooting of Mark Duggan.

I went to sleep last night with the sound of sirens going off and the sound of the helicopter overhead. I had my fire extinguisher next to my bed in case it got out of hand and I needed to use it and my daughter slept in the bed with me. The helicopter is still flying about and the sirens are still flying up and down the high road.

Even after all this, I will try not to make sweeping, generalising statements about a situation I have no facts about and hope that the community will settle somewhat and come together to make thier displeasure known in a way that is legitimate and correct.

Al0uiseG · 07/08/2011 08:52

They should have perhaps tried that approach first Kingbeat

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 07/08/2011 08:55

There was a peaceful demonstration earlier on in the day, wasn't there?
Then it deteriorated. The rioters are more likely to injure and kill members of their own communities than the police if they set fire to buildings with people living above them.

kingbeat23 · 07/08/2011 08:59

They did Al0uise , they marched a mile down the main road and were outside the police station protesting, then someone started throwing missles. Was that someone from the demonstration or from someone who wasn't involved trying to escalate things? We don't know as we weren't there.

FellatioNelson · 07/08/2011 09:06

That just sums it up though, doesn't it? A group of people can be bothered to come together to march on a police station to protest about the death of one man (supposedly legitimately shot after resisting arrest and firing at police) and yet where are the mass protests against the criminal element ruining these people's lives day in day out?

foxinsocks · 07/08/2011 09:09

Those poor people who have lost their homes and businesses :-(. How terrifying it must have been for local residents who wanted nothing to do with this

I think David Lammy's responses to this have been abysmal. Ffs stand up for your constituents!

AuntieMonica · 07/08/2011 09:14

there are numerous fb campaigns and groups springing up calling today a 'Day of Action Against Police Brutality'

Hmm

I'm all for the right to protest, a bit of an old hippie at heart really, but this is mindless thuggery under a very thin disguise of people power.

it stinks

theyoungvisiter · 07/08/2011 09:15

For the sake of all the law abiding people of MANY different races and cultures whose well-loved community is being burned, could some people on this thread just shut the fuck up with the ignorant racist generalisations?

And yes I live in the area.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 07/08/2011 09:18

Auntie - people should get together and call for a day of action against scum.

AuntieMonica · 07/08/2011 09:19

that's one of the most loaded suggestions i've ever read cooketc

i protest against scum every day, by trying my best not to be it Hmm
