new thread to discuss phonehacking scandal.

OP posts:

Londonone - that may be true but as CEO the buck stops with you and you are well renumerated for that.

crazynanna · 19/07/2011 16:20

Balls...just got in...have I missed much? Smile

Ponders · 19/07/2011 16:20

did I see someone suggesting that RM has an earpiece & is being fed answers (hence long silences)???

frillyflower · 19/07/2011 16:20

He wasn't asked about every minor detail of every subsidiary company Londonone - he was asked if he knew about huge payoffs (600,00 and 1,000,000 pounds) to people. It is in no way unusual for a ceo to be told of such things.

RM seems fairly hands on when it suits him!

NormanTebbit · 19/07/2011 16:21

And JM signed the cheques for the pay- offs how could he not know?

LisMcA · 19/07/2011 16:21

I sort of agree with londonone on JM and RM not knowing every single detail of how NOTW/News Intl was run day to day. Have you seen the list of assets come under the News Corp umbrella? It's huge!

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 16:21

Someone asked if he had an earpiece.

I would imagine the correct term is 'Assisted Hearing Aid'.

Don't know if he is wearing one !

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 16:22

Yes, I agree, Lis but the buck stops at the top. The 'minions' are there to keep the CEO informed of what goes on.

Usually.

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 16:23

Norman

Ahh, but he didn't say he read them, he just signed them.

londonone · 19/07/2011 16:24

frillyflower - as was made clear payouts of that level are not considered huge by a corporation of the size of newscorp and as such don't require board approval. The fact you consider them HUGE and that you can't believe that RM wouldn't need to approve them, suggets you are somewhat naieve about the amounts of money these organisations deal with. As was made clear. New iNtrnational made those paymenhts and JM the CEO of that organisation approved them. Perhaps you don't undrstand the difference betwn NI and NC?

frillyflower · 19/07/2011 16:25

Perhaps not. But on the other hand I can spell naive.

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 16:26

Gullible.

Do you know it's not in the dictionary ?

Grin
LisMcA · 19/07/2011 16:26

Yep, totally! However, if the "minions don't want the CEO to find out something, they have ways and means to keep things to themselves. There is so much more to this than there seems. Whenit comes to signing the cheques, he will ask for the information, he doesn't necessarily get all the information relating to the payment (more than likely it would have been a bank transfer rather than a cheque).

londonone · 19/07/2011 16:28

I also can't spell suggest and payments etc etc or maybe I made a few typos! Cheap shot. At least try and address the argument if you can.

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 16:29

Of course there is. The CEO and Asst. haven't a clue what's gone on, the bosses at various organisations don't have a clue what's gone on, because ultimately it is up to the CEO......no-one has any responsibilty at all.

londonone · 19/07/2011 16:29

Do you understand the difference between NC and NI frilly?

LisMcA · 19/07/2011 16:30

I'm with londonone again, we might think those payments are huge, but usuaslly within these type of organisation the structure is as such that board approval is only required for payments over as£1million. The CFO and an other exec would probably sign off payments below that level.

Ponders · 19/07/2011 16:31

why did NI pay Taylor £700K when a court award would probably have been only £250K? They must have been desperate to keep the details out of court. (3.43pm on Guardian blog)

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 16:32

This has gone on for much longer than expected. Will we see RB ?

chipstick10 · 19/07/2011 16:32

Is Louise Bashaw going to get a shot at asking a question? shes usually good value.

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 16:32

link, please Ponders ? TIA

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 16:33

I want to see Tom Watson let loose on RB. [evil]Grin

Nancy66 · 19/07/2011 16:34

Why the hell ask about the 'day to running of a sunday newspaper' - it's just pointless drivel....

londonone · 19/07/2011 16:34

Ponders they already addressed that, an award of 250000 would prob be doubled by legal fees and they received advice that the total payout had it gone to court would probe be between 500000 and 1 million

LisMcA · 19/07/2011 16:34

The court woul have maybe awarded £250k, but also instructed to pay legal fees, plus the extra costs involved with going to court and proceeding with the case. JM said that the £700k took into account all this.
