Beggars belief...

BelleDameSansMerci · 19/05/2011 23:33

These Germans also appear to be misogynistic tossers... Wonder how the saleswomen were rewarded? Or, would I be correct in my assumption that there weren't any?

MollysChamber · 19/05/2011 23:36

Indeed Belle

I wonder how many of these salesmen are married.

Completely stomach churning.

Good grief.

That kind of thinking may explain why my friend's dh's company has an entirely male salesforce. When they have jollies for the salesmen, all the wives get taken out for an afternoon's 'pampering'. (Although of course I'm sure her dh wouldn't take part in an orgy. Especially a works orgy. Bloody team building days are bad enough without having to get your todger/tits out for the department as well!)

BitOfFun · 19/05/2011 23:40

Actually speechless.

BelleDameSansMerci · 19/05/2011 23:42

I work in sales in a very male dominated industry. I used to be the only woman in the UK salesforce at my old company. I well remember the email stating that any expenses for "gentlemens' clubs" would not be honoured etc and the outrage of some of the older salesmen. I, of course, laughed my arse off!

I like the comment that the people who organised it had now left the company. I don't think I'd be happy unless everyone who attended had gone. And, not wishing to show any sympathy, I wonder if any/how many of those who did attend felt they had to?

Makes my blood boil!

MollysChamber · 19/05/2011 23:44

That occured to me to Belle. Blokes that would never dream of behaving like that. Peer pressure and all boys together. Grim.

Vile. How on earth can this sort of stuff still happen in the twenty-first century? It makes me despair.

GrimmaTheNome · 19/05/2011 23:44

DH, who used to have a lot of German colleagues wasn't at all suprised.

He also said there were far fewer women with careers - the schools have weirdly variable hours not at all compatible with being a working mother.

BelleDameSansMerci · 19/05/2011 23:47

Grimma - I've had to work with German companies and German offices of multi-nationals, I'd say your DH is spot on. Hardly any women and almost none in senior positions.

MollysChamber · 19/05/2011 23:49

I used to work in a very male dominated industry. Used to piss me off when golf jollies were arranged because I can't play. Looks like it could have been worse....

Um, shifty fat blokes with dirty macs on?

I don't think it is naive to believe that corporate endorsement of the sex trade is unacceptable in the modern age, kerrymumbles. It is actually rather unusual.

MollysChamber · 19/05/2011 23:52

Does this go on everywhere? Seriously?

Kerry, I think the 'usual' thing is a bunch of individuals going out after work to a lap or strip place... or worse ... and expensing it as 'entertainment'. But not the company actually arranging a party with hookers.

meditrina · 20/05/2011 07:19

It did say it took place in 2007 - why is it in the news now? Is there another agenda running about this company? Or within this company?

Not exactly an easy company to boycott, is it? (Pity!)

MoreBeta · 20/05/2011 07:27

This used to go on in the City when I worked there and no doubt still does.

Let me be clear. I am not just talking about a few blokes going out at lunchtime and after work to lap dancing clubs an dputting it through expenses. I am talking about bus loads of 'escort girls' being brought in to client dinners and paid for by the firm.

Horrible.

RobF · 20/05/2011 11:28

Does anyone have the address of the company, so I can send them my C... er I mean a strongly worded letter of complaint?

MollysChamber · 20/05/2011 11:41
Hmm

No I don't. Sounds like you'd fit right in though.

TotemPole · 20/05/2011 11:45

From the share prices, it looks like 2007 was a good year for that company.

I wonder if an ex employee has a grudge and turned whistleblower.

Pedallleur · 20/05/2011 11:50

it gets better when you read that the women had colour coded armbands and were stamped after each encounter. Also, certain women were reserved for the execs! I cannot believe that people think this a one-off. the entertainment industry (film/music) has endorsed this action for ever and anywhere there is a lot of money and an all-male clientele will encourage this. It's a lot more common than people think and is actually celebrated in some areas. Read about Col.Khaddafi at his party in Rome when he requested a lot of Italian converts to Islam

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1228196/Colonel-Gaddafi-demands-500-beautiful-Italian-girls-convert-Islam-Rome-summit.html

The french ski resorts have actually tried to ban/limit Russian clients who were shipping in prostitutes altho' that may have calmed down lately

and let us not forget Mr.Berlusconi!

MollysChamber · 20/05/2011 11:54

Playboy mansions is basically just a very expensive brothel for the rich and famous - allegedly.

What I find most disturbing about this is that it was a WORK thing. Not some kind of gross stag party escapade. You have to go to work to pay the mortgage. There would be an expectation that staff would have to attend this. Awful.
