That's it, really - according to Radio 4 this morning, there are now more Greggs outlets in the UK than there are branches of McDonalds!

I tried a Greggs sausage roll once and hated it. Does that mean I am a perfect mumsnetter, or should be run out of here on a rail??

I love Greggs. DD also likes them, she can wolf down a steak bake quicker than DH.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 13/01/2011 08:46

I haven't tried the steak bake - but I will try one as your dd approves of them, kreecher.

I read somewhere, that theyare really good employer .Whichyou got to applaudeven if you are not a fan of the pastry. Smile

expatinscotland · 13/01/2011 08:55

I wish we had a Greggs. I love it.

marriednotdead · 13/01/2011 09:06

2 Greggs 1 Macs in our town too.

I'd second the steak bakes -scrummy Smile

Don't love the sausage rolls though, prefer those mini ones you cook from frozen (as you can shove them in whole)

MackerelOfFact · 13/01/2011 09:21

I find this suprising! I can only name about 5 Greggs stores (and one of those is about 500 miles away) but probably 50 or more McDonalds' outlets. I have a Greggs almost opposite but it always looks devoid of any goods for sale.

MintAeroBar · 13/01/2011 09:29

Why is it that MN is so against Greggs? I cant remember!

nikki1978 · 13/01/2011 09:31

Really? There are about 10 McDonalds in my town and I can only think of one or two Greggs. They must all be up north Grin

tigerchilli · 13/01/2011 11:26

Greggs also gives substantial amounts of money to local charities. I used to key work people coming out of residential care and Greggs was our first port of call for a grant to assist with independent living.

KurriKurri · 13/01/2011 12:27

2 Greggs have just opened in our town - I'd never seen one before (although obviously had heard of the sausage rolls). They can't be worse than MacDonalds which is a vile organization.

HelenBa · 13/01/2011 14:52

which is the lesser of the two evils?

spring2011 · 13/01/2011 14:56

I also have 2 Greggs in my Town and one McDonalds.

I am very close to someone who works for them, They do an awfull lot for charity, I also heard they are a good company to work for although I do think this depends on the actual branch management, They are not all the same.

smileymam · 05/05/2012 19:38

Greggs is actually a fab company to work for, and they do an amazing amount for charity they are actually the biggest donator to children in need. they also supply free of charge hundreds of schools with bread for breakfast clubs.

Olympia2012 · 05/05/2012 19:58

And greggs now sell frozen sausage rolls etc..... In Iceland! Does that count too?

NotDavidTennant · 05/05/2012 22:17

I'm not surprised. There are 7 branches of Greggs (versus 2 McDonalds) in Cardiff city centre alone. Most of the out of town high streets have one as well.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 05/05/2012 22:19

MPs even eat in gregg's now dontcha know. Wink

southeastastra · 05/05/2012 22:21

i am sick of greggs greasy sausage rolls and greasy pizzas, i now only buy ham rolls in there. wenzels though are another matter entirely! far superior

Birdsgottafly · 06/05/2012 01:24

Where i live, Pound bakery's are springing up everywhere. You get two pasties, or sausage rolls for a £1. There are basic sandwiches for a £1 and packs of cakes.

So two pasties work out cheaper than some shops are charging for two packets of crisps.

droves · 06/05/2012 01:42

Iceland have started selling proper Gregs sausage rolls , but frozen .

MrsArchieTheInventor · 06/05/2012 02:07

What's so wrong with Greggs?

Hmm
Birdsgottafly · 06/05/2012 02:10

"What's so wrong with Greggs"

I've often wondered that. I would have thought that they would be perfect for all this BLW bollocks
