So who else thinks this is a bit of propaganda to decrease public support from students? It's London, there are so many possible routes but the driver HAD to drive into the thick of it?

Forgetting for a second the "heir to the throne" stuff - I just think its not on to attack a car with two elderly people in it, no matter what you are protesting.

I was broadly in support before it turned nasty. Its a shame because I don't think for a second that the "real" protesters would have condoned this. It totally plays into the hands of the right wing press.

Er no. They are not going to knowingly put the life of the heir to the throne at risk just to decrease public support for students.

And there would be no need anyway, the students are doing a good enough job of losing sympathy for themselves.

They were 2 miles away, these 'protesters' went there to deliberately target them.

And al the violence, utterly disgusting behaviour, attacking animals.

That's sick, not on and disgusting.

All because you might have to pay for your higher education?

I don't think tghey knowingly did it but it sure is getting spun to take the focus of the really important story.

How long were they there for, about 2 minutes in a huge car - they weren't in any great danger. It's all just bollox.

Somebody was interviewed on TV and said he thought it was crazy that the car was heading up Regent Street, when the protesters were all at the top of the street. He wondered whether an alternate route might have been appropriate.

Claig - in the protests the other week there was a car damaged that belonged to a member of public - black mini if I recall - and they reported on it and interviewed the owner.

If that were my grandparents or parents in the car I would be fuming. Threatening and violent behaviour is not acceptable in our society and I am surprised that in MN (where the first hint of violence in a relationship thread begins cries of 'leave him!') you are actually trying to condone this because it's 'propoganda'.

Are you for real? If that had been me, I'd have been terrified! How did they know they weren't in any great danger? Oh, it was only for a wee while.

It's never ever on to do this or to throw paint at animals or attack them.

And no, it's not propoganda. It's people being violent.

SparkleSioree, I'm not condoning anything, I don't condone violence. I asked if there were any reports of any other cars being attacked last night in Regent Street. Was it only the one car that was attacked?

I totally agree with expat re the fact that it might be a conspiracy (of course it's not) and how terrifying it must have been to have been attacked like that.

Poor sods they looked utterly terrified in the photo I have seen. And how ferociously that car must have been attacked, presumably the car is bullet proof so they miust have battered it to have smashed the glass.

I think it is a great shame that the peaceful protest should have been taken over by this gang of violent pests.

Are they the students do you think or just a load of anarchists riding on the back of it?

GetOrfMoiLand I forgout about the car probably being bullet proof because even if it was not to crack car windows like that takes some impact.

If my parents experienced anything like that I would be looking for people to be charged.

Fuck, I'd have been afraid someone was looking to lob a bomb or Molotov cocktail in, or pull me out and kill me, any number of things.

It's preposterous to suggest they weren't in any danger.

And I'd feel just as livid if it were any innocent member of the public being attacked.

To suggest it was a conspiracy it a bit ridiculous, IMO.

I can see the logic for those who say that it is a conspiracy.

The Government needs to paint the students in as bad a light as possible to take away what public support they have.

The Police have tried various approaches and been criticised for each of them, they could do with a justification for cracking down tougher next time.

Meanwhile they were in about the safest vehicle they could be and also surrounded by armed police should things turn really nasty.

So it does make a kind of sense.

But choosing between the people being involved being so incompetent as to send them down there or so conspiratorially organised so as to pull it off I'd vote for incompetence every time :)

Quite scary that given the nature of the car they were in, the protesters managed to crack the window.

And wtf were the armed police meant to do, everyone would be up in arms if they had even so much as raised their weapons

I think the students (or the thug element) have shot themselves in the foot with this one. I think many people are beginning to lose sympathy with the cause given the violence and vandalism that has marked some of the protests.
