Anni Dewani's murder - what could the motive be?

I am aware that Shrien is innocent until proven guilty - but if he is proved guilty what are his motives?

From what I understand:

  1. It is an arranged marriage (introduced by a cousin of Anni's), but not forced. It was up to the couple whether or not they married.
  1. There is no life insurance on her life.
  1. According to her father there was no dowry.

By all accounts she was a lovely person, and clearly very beautiful. Why would you want her killed on honeymoon?

I think you are one of the relative of Dewani, If the money is for the tour why did he put it in a plastic bag. He could have given the money in open, what is the need for putting it in plastic bag.

It is not like what you think, unlike the open gay people these hidden bastards not only ruin the life of a girl they also go to any extent to hide their sexuality.

What nonsense are you talking? Let the police do their job and stop overthinking everything.

Anyone sensible knows innocent until proven guilty through the courts, all this speculation is just that.

Let it all come out in the courts and let justice be done, whatever the outcome is.

If you are referring to the gay thing, not all married gay Asians kill their bride within days of marrying her, most, I assume just carry on living a lie. Thats not just in the Hindu culture either but everywhere.

I never mentioned anywhere that he killed his wife because he was a hindu gay. Don't try to divert this topic. I am against him because he was hiding his sexuality which lead to a poor girls' murder.

kittya · 18/12/2010 18:11

the way I am reading your comments it sounds like you are saying he murdered her because he didnt want to come out of the closet. You have completely contradicted yourself.

Im not a relative and I resent you implying that. This is all speculation and I am keeping an open mind. I hope justice will be done and the right people punished. That is all anyone can hope for in this sorry affair.

I don'T see why it's so difficult for people to get their head around the fact that men murder their wives every single week for all sorts of reasons. The only strange thing about this one is its premeditated.
He may not have done it, but just like rape, murder is most likely to be commited by someone known to the victim.
Random murder is just as extraordinary as random rape; it is almost always someone known to the victim, often someone she is in a relationship with

The rent boy may well be lying. We don't really know yet.

It certainly looked very strange that he was paying cash after the death. If my spouse whom I loved had just been killed I would not be feeling emotionally up to paying travel costs debts. I would deal with it 2 or 3 months on or get a family member to pay.

Also they were driving in a very strange dangerous area that no one really would go to on a honey moon but we'll see what happens.

South Africa has certainly not done itself many favours with handling this to date so I'm not sure extradition will be ordered.

BabiesNeedInstructions · 02/02/2011 06:02

Could we all stop speculating please. This poor man has lost his new wife in the worst possible circumstances and is now facing the prospect of fighting extradition in the glare of the media on the say-so of a taxi driver facing a murder charge, in a country where the police are known to be corrupt. Of course he didn't do it.

I know his family very vaguely (went to the same school) and have nothing but the utmost sympathy for him.

Babiesneedinstructions: Dewani started the speculation, Clifford exacerbated it. They've defamed South Africa and made wild accusations about us. We're framing up an innocent man to protect our tourist industry? Like nobody knew about a crime problem here before? Mwhahaha. Like pinning one murder on a tourist will clear the way for future tourists? Our tourism industry flourished despite even the worst possible PR during the apartheid years.

As to possible motive for the murder: she discovered something that would ruin the entire Dewani family and fortune and had to be silenced. The hit on Anni was organised by Shrien's family and like a good boy he dutifully played his part. Hence the secrecy around the honeymoon destination. His personal assistant booked the taxi driver from London, ignoring the Cape Grace Hotel's own service. Shrien's mother told Annie a day before departure that she was being taken to South Africa on her honeymoon.

Shrien's family are spending millions on lawyers and PR consultants supposedly to "protect" Shrien, despite the fact that Shrien is obviously suffering. If they cared about his welfare they would have told him to return to SA as soon as he was requested to do so and put it all behind him so that he could begin his recovery. Instead they spend millions on a smear campaign against South Africa.

I don't understand why the judge couldn't see the motive - he was gay, and this is a huge huge shame to him and his family if it came out in their community.

There are many many inconsistencies in his statements of events. If he isn't guilty of murder, he is definitely hiding something.
