Anyone seen this in the MAil today (read at work!!)

Seemingly government research has found that kids with middle class names like KAtherine and Duncan do 8 times better in school than Waynes, Dwaines etc..

Some teachers have said that PAiges are the worst girls of all and that the following names arose the following comments:

Adrienne (kiss of death - spiteful, sneaky or both), Alanna, Ashleigh, Britney, Candice, Chantelle (spawn of the devil), Chelsie, Chelseigh, Chloe (nasty, spiteful).

Cindy (always a pain in the a**e) Courtney, Cortnee, Cortnie (trouble), Danielle (a nightmare), Jade, Jodie, Jordan (pretty bad for a girl), Kayleigh (a pain), Keeley, Keira (live in fear), Kimberley, Kylie, Leanne, Leigh, Lou-Lou,

Mia, Paige, Poppy (hyperactive and not very bright), Stacey, Tyler (lesson disrupter).

And these are the boys' names that the teachers most fear: Ashley, Chayse, Conor, Connor (a nightmare), Curtis, Damon, Declan, Dillon/Dylan, Dwayne (a terror), Grant, Jordan, Josh (arrogant, nasty, selfish.

Kade, Kane, Kieron, Kyle (always spells trouble), Liam (always a bad lad), Mason (a horror), Mitchell, Myles, Painton, Rhys / Reece (a nightmare), Ryan, Scott (live in fear), Shane (a terror), Troy, Tyler (lesson disrupter), Wayne (a terror).

What do you think?

I have dd1 which is Tegan and dd2 which is Sidney - both names chosen by my dh because neither were my first choice but he did girls names and I did boys - didn't bloody get one though did I

hmb, going back to your earlier post - I realise that this is meant to be light-hearted and tongue-in-cheek, and I'm sure you don't sit down with your class lists and decide what each child is going to be like according to their name. But I do know one teacher who does ... and who advised me not to give dd a partucular name because "every child with that name I've ever taught has been a pain in the butt, and if I've ever got one of those in my class I know she's trouble". This teacher does base her initial opinion of a child on their name and I think it's very sad.

Not as sad as the fact that a journalist has raked this up to try and discredit teachers, though ...

My ds was also named after the poet (NOT the newsagent!)but I don't want him to be disadvantaged. He's only 5, do you think it is too late to change his name? It's not as though he answers to it anyway!

edam · 23/09/2005 20:51

If we are on Malory Towers, I pity the child of horsey parents who will be called Willhelmina...

Has anyone seen the new St Clare's stories filling in the forms that Enid Blyton didn't write? They have new girls with 'modern' names like Liberty - who, strangely enough, leave at the end of term...

Didn't will save someone from death on her horse?

Didn't we discuss this on the MT thread? Anyone remember it?

Bill saved her horse from a fire, Archers-stylie. (I could have learnt German or something useful with all the braincells used up remembering bloody Enid Blyton...).

am back now after my car-crash tv for the evening - Jordan and Peter's emergency c-section.

hmmm - wonder how many teachers have a Junior on thir register this term - and I wonder what they are like?....

Norty kids I've taught that fit into this categorising: Chelsey, Jade, Colleen, Latoya (I kid you not), Carreen, Myles, Jack; Chantelle, Shane

Norty kids with names that don't fit: Oliver (worst child EVER), Danielle (x4 in one class - a class that also contained 4 Daniels), Dane.

YES, it's true some teachers discuss the names on roll for the coming year and we speculate - but once term is under way, the kids themselves take over and you switch your expectations accordingly.

Very surprised at Dylan - always thought that was an arty, 'thoughtful' type of name.

skinnycow · 23/09/2005 22:32

my friend's ds was a vile toddler, completely uncontrollable and just plain yak and because his older sister was at the primary school most of the teachers got to know him and the nursery teacher who was wonderful absolutely hated this child from what she saw of him in the playground. When he started nursery she really wasnt looking forward to it but after a few weeks she really took a shine to him and he turned out to be one of her all time favourites - normal name though
