Has anyone seen the young Tories in the crowd/being interviewed?

I thought William Hague at 16 was bad

RainbowRainbow, agree the real socialists have no power and are humoured and are patted on the head. The Labour party is full of actors, most of them naff, but they put on a good enough act to fool the voters.

If Frank Field is a socialist, I'll eat my hat. He has done so many flip-flops throughout his career, and is really the darling of Tories who want to introduce cuts.

vesela · 06/10/2010 22:52

OK, so I'm not with claig on that one! I think they're all socialist by nature. Old Labour and New Labour are both driven by the same patronising, controlling socialism. Not that I'm totally against the Blairites.

vesela · 06/10/2010 22:52

Frank Field is a party of one, I think.

claig · 06/10/2010 22:55

Frank Field is built up by the media as some sort of guru, the wise man with answers for pensions etc. It is laughable, and he is always wheeled out whenever cuts and changes need to be made by the Tories. He is used to convince Labour voters that the cuts are good for them, because Frank gives his seal of approval to them.

RainbowRainbow · 06/10/2010 22:58

I don't know any Labour voters who take Frank Field seriously. Or Alan Milburn

edam · 06/10/2010 23:00

Jinx - because surprisingly few people earning that amount or more realise how well off they are. The average wage in the UK is about £26k (full time). Someone earning 44k may not 'feel' as if they are a particularly high earner. But they are. (When I was earning a v. good amount, I was amazed to discover how skewed my colleagues and bosses' perception was - they all felt as if they were just doing OK when actually, in comparison to everyone else, they were doing jolly well indeed.)

claig · 06/10/2010 23:00

I'm pleased to hear it. Tories don't take those jokers seriously either. The only people who take them seriously are the media who make sure they give them lots of air time and try to convince us of their importance.

walksfarwoman · 06/10/2010 23:00

The notion of the Big Society as espoused by the Con-Dem government is total scotch mist, we already have the highest numbers of volunteers in the land. Look around and you can see that the Big Society has recovered well from Thatchers edict that there is 'No such thing as society, only individuals'....who runs the net-ball teams, football, cricket, charity stores, support groups, mothers and Toddlers...and a million more,? Volunteers.

Who could ever be conned by such lies is beyond me. Everywhere I see people helping other people......all the time.Meals on wheels, this collection that collection all for charity, mostly done by volunteers....i could go on, I am sure you all know who does what around your area....
And as for 'we are all in this to-gether ', what utter crap that is...how can millionaires like Cameron and Osborne dare to lecture we the real tax payers about being in any thing to-gether? we are not even inhabiting the same universe
No Cameron's speech, Boring and as usual lack lustre.....

walksfarwoman · 06/10/2010 23:02

Edam, it is quite normal for the rich to constantly declare themselves poor.......and the rest of us are not sure....G Michael....

BoffinMum · 06/10/2010 23:03

Just out of interest, I'd like to know whether Dave has ever actually volunteered for anything in this great Big Society of ours? Or is he too busy being a professional politician telling us all what's good for us?

claig · 06/10/2010 23:05

Ken Loach just destroyed Heseltine on Newsnight. He was right in what he said, and he said that New Labour was Tory-lite, and just carried on with the same policies as Thatcher.

walksfarwoman · 06/10/2010 23:06

Claig....Applause for that honest summary of the awful and pathetic Frank Field...like feminism, socialism is now a dirty word, but it does not mean that the ideological project is lost ( in both instances) , it just means they are on hold....another epoch another time...things will change....

walksfarwoman · 06/10/2010 23:07

Applause for Ken Loach......some people keep their truth no matter their success they remain true to their visions and values....Ah-womon too that

walksfarwoman · 06/10/2010 23:09

Boffin Mum, excellent question, he does like to 'roll up his sleeves', but only to talk!!!!!(wink)

NotanOtter · 06/10/2010 23:11

Boffin mum i very much doubt it
Too busy at Bullingdon ( sorry do i repeat myself Wink)

Samcam looked desperate to do a runner uncomfortable

NanaNina · 06/10/2010 23:55

Lady Blabla - I think I love you! And all the other informed witty left wingers on here. I was so surprised and delighted that so many MNs could see through the coalition crap. Claig I think you are probably quite a nice person (oh hang on that's a contradiction in terms isn't it) you can't be nice and a Tory.

My dad who was a life long socialist told me when I was about 7, that the Tories made the rich richer and the poor poorer, that was said to me about 60 years ago and it is still the truth.

I am seriously worried hearing Cameron boast about what they have done in 5 months, and look what they can do in 5 years..........very scarey stuff.

I would like Cameron and the insufferable Osborne (who for me is the biggest slime ball with Gove coming in a close second)to
tell me how these single parents are going to find jobs (I live in the West Midlands - one of the hardest hit areas in the country because of its manufacturing industry)that would allow them to care for their childrentoo - they would need a job that starts at 9.30 and ends at 2.30 just in term time of course. It's all very well for Cameron and his wife to pose with the new baby, they will have no such worries.

My other worry is the changes in incapacity benefit (and I know there are a minority of
people who may not actually need this benefit), but to let an admin worker decide whether they are fit for work and if so to immediately drop them to jobseekers allowance is disgusting. I think they have some plan for medics to make this assessment but not until 2013. As some one who has suffered 2 episodes of severe depression (both needing 3 months in psychiatric hospital) I really feel for people suffering from mental health who will almost certainly be deemed by some admin worker to be fit for work. Depression in its severe form is a total torment and defies description - recovery is not straightforward and is subject to peaks and troughs - try telling that to the admin worker with no understanding of mental health and you will be declared FIT for work. Same is true for people with physical illnesses who will be declared FIT, and put onto Jobseekers which is about £40 per week.

Oh I'd better stop because I am so concerned about so manythings I could go on all night. The cuts in public services are shocking and alarming - nurses, teachers, social workers, police are the people we need when we are in need. The truth is that the Tories want to privatise public services lock, stock and barrel and won't rest until they have done it.

Anyway SO glad to see so many anti Tories on MN...........at least that is some small comfort. Best wishes to all who can see through Cameron and his ilk and as for the others well, the least unplesant thing I can say about them is they are sadly misguided.

NickOfTime · 07/10/2010 00:23

can i just say that claig's early posts on this thread warmed the cockles of my very heart (along with the 'disciple' analogy), and i mean that in a good way. they did make me smile. Grin

i am, however, loving the idea of a modern-day Robin Hood cruising the first class carriages of every train into waterloo between 7 and 9 am. Grin fabtastic.

but how massively, utterly uber cool would it be to suddenly see every woman and child in the uk sporting a black armband in mourning for cb? way to lose 50% of the electorate...

KittyFoyle · 07/10/2010 00:27

I know a lot of nice Tories (like my brother in law). I know a lot of very unpleasant socialists. I also know Tories who are dickheads and socialists who are fantastic (such as my best friend).

The idea that Tories are always nasty and lacking in compassion is immature, blinkered and just shows what a narrow experience of the world some people must have.

I didn't vote Tory in the last election but reading the toxic stuff on here makes me with I had.

madhattershouse · 07/10/2010 00:29

I love the black band idea..maybe we could start a trend!!

madhattershouse · 07/10/2010 00:34

Post the idea on facebook and see how far it gets!

Xenia · 07/10/2010 07:08

I think the left lot are forgetting that the Labour Government proposed custs of 20% and the Tories are on 5%. The vast majority of the cuts would have been here whichever party were in power and indeed many didn't wanttheir favoured party to win as whoever won is handed the poisoned chalice.

claig · 07/10/2010 07:26

agree with Xenia. That's why we have conveniently got a coalition, so that the blame can be spread, and also why it was so important to include Frank Field and Alan Milburn. The coalition will just carry out what would have been varried out by the socialists. Daniel Finkelstein was on Newsnight last night and said that the same cuts would have been carried out by Labour, but possibly over two terms rather than the one term that it will take the coalition to do it.

The hot air, stoked by the media and the phony socialists, is just to disguise that there really is not much difference between all of them on the big issues. The public knew it all along. The cleverest members of the public were the ones they interviewed in the streets, those who said they weren't going to bother voting, because "they're all the same".

claig · 07/10/2010 07:45

Here is today's big news
You must retire later, public sector workers told

The coalition has asked Lord Hutton to review public sector pensions. Who is Lord Hutton? Why, a former Labour cabinet minister, of course. What is this "socialist" doing, working for the coalition? Why, exactly the same thing as socialists like Frank Field and Alan Milburn are doing? Why is the pensionionable age being increased by the coalition? Why, because they are just continuing with the socialists' plans that Harriet Harman was a part of.

There is one ship of state and they are all sailing it together.

LadyBlaBlah · 07/10/2010 08:04

Could be claig, or how about the fact they are going to reduce the higher tax band rate to £42,375.

This will bring another 700,000 people into losing CB

OP posts:
Fortheverylasttime · 07/10/2010 08:14

I think that in Ireland, public sector employees have had their pay cut by 20%. I am worried they will cut teaching assistant jobs.
