Goat - Jolly good, ten untrousered minutes with a SA in a hotel of your choice (under £55 pp per night)

claig · 02/09/2010 14:36

agree with Pagwatch "where there's a Will there's a way" is excellent, great punch line

Perhaps secrets only stay secrets until they matter.

If Hague was gay and his wife knew about it and was happy enough with the situation, it wouldn't matter. Unless he employed someone with whom he was having a relationship, and gave them a job which was a) superfluous and b) one for which they were unqualified. Then it would matter.

Plenty of politicians vote in favour of legislation which might affect them adversely personally, or which they might disagree with. Didn't Thatcher have to put forward a motion on the reintroduction of Capital Punishment despite being personally very against it and hoping it would fail?

It's odd that so many people seem to think that Fionn Hague is being supportive or even behind this statement. What if she didn't know anything about all this and is sitting at home with her head in her hands?

claig · 02/09/2010 14:43

"Perhaps secrets only stay secrets until they matter."

exactly right. Everyone in Westminster knew about the expenses that MPs claimed, but the public didn't have a clue. Finally the Telegraph chose to tell us about it. Why? Why didn't they tell us 5 years ago. Timing is key, and there are reasons why stories surface at particular times.

claig · 02/09/2010 14:46

There is a cupboard full of skeletons, and somebody brings a skeleton out every now and then for a very good reason. If an MP didn't have skeletons, they probably wouldn't be selected.

MollysChambers · 02/09/2010 14:50

You know what puzzles me though...a TWIN room? With two single beds? Would sneaking down the corridor to a nice comfy double not be the better option? Most peculiar.....

MmeLindt · 02/09/2010 14:51

I have been following Guido on Twitter, he has been writing about Hague for a while now.

Alastair Campbell blogged today about this, saying that Hague showed bad judgment - in employing Myers, in sharing a room with him and in releasing this statement which took the Internet rumor out of the blogosphere and into the mainstream media.

I agree that he has been extremely foolish. Perhaps it was rage at the insensitive comments, perhaps a ploy to distract from allegations that he should not have employed a fourth SA.

Or he imagined that the rest of the country would pick up on the story that at the time was only of interest to the social media savvy bloggers and political activists. It is easy to forget that the majority of the country does not follow twitter and the blogosphere when one is so involved.

Sometimes I will say "Oh, did you see the story about..." and be met with blank stares as the other person has no idea what I am talking about.

Twin beds offers choice and a chance to really snuggle up tight.

MollysChambers · 02/09/2010 14:54

Pagwatch Grin Hope I don't have nightmares....

BTino · 02/09/2010 14:55

smallwhitecat, what is funny is the hypocrisy of it all, don't you see?

He is essentially anti-gay.
He has used taxpayers money twice to employ young, possibly gay men to act as advisors he didn't need.
The media did not report on the rumours and would not have done were it not for his statement.
The miscarriages, tragic though they are, have no relevance on the story and are a rather disturbing deflection attempt by Hague.

Have you forgotten what us British are best renowed for? Our sense of humour. Not one person is making light of the miscarriages. But that doesn't mean we cannot make light of the situation as a whole.

MollysChambers · 02/09/2010 14:55

Hullygully - Snuggling up tight with WH [vom]. Now I really will have nightmares...

MmeLindt · 02/09/2010 14:56

Shit. I am sharing my insight and you are all writing poetry.

As an aside, when I wrote the line

" ...that Hague showed bad judgment - in employing Myers, in sharing a room with him and in releasing..."

my spell check swapped "in releasing" for "Rooney" which may have been an ever bigger scandal.

BTino · 02/09/2010 14:57

Twin beds are great for a quick one and then back in your own bed leaving him with the wet patch.

Also good if you aren't at the snuggly bit of the relationship yet. If you want to just stick it in and withdraw without having to pretend you actually like each other.

MollysChambers · 02/09/2010 14:58

MmeLindt - I'm finding your posts v insightful. Don't despair!

someone should sew that into a sampler

sethstarkaddersmum · 02/09/2010 15:01

but it is only hypocrisy IF he is actually gay, and the evidence so far is rather weak:

  1. there are lots of rumours
  2. he shared a twin-bedded hotel room with a young man...
  3. ...who looks a bit gay
Confused

people have thought my dh is gay from time to time too, now I'm going to go to his work website to look for pics of all the colleagues he has ever shared with at conferences to see if they look gay too Smile

Hullygully · 02/09/2010 15:03

Cock rings are often a giveaway. Are they nudie pics?
