poor Hagues Sad

imagine having to go through all that whilst in the public eye - the pregnancy being reported in the paper must have been absolutely horrendous.

Good god I hate the media
It is NOBODY's business

Itsjustafleshwound · 01/09/2010 17:43

I think what is particularly bad is that these two do not court celebrity and has nothing to do with anyone.

Howevber, it seems like footballers are able to get away with most things and have the law on their side to cover up their off the field antics..

The gossip mongers should be ashamed of themselves ...

compo · 01/09/2010 17:46

I think it's disgusting the media in this country seems to have no boundaries
how awful for him and his wife

SandStorm · 01/09/2010 17:47

Say what you like about his politics, he's a very dignified gentleman and this statement should never have to have been made.

Alouiseg · 01/09/2010 17:47

Very dignified.

squeaver · 01/09/2010 17:49

Hmm, I've got a feeling some people in the media are going to be thinking "he doth protest too much.."

I don't think that, btw

That's so sad.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 01/09/2010 17:55

Who would want to be in the public eye? How difficult. I hope it happens for them soon.

MilaMae · 01/09/2010 17:55

How awful, really feel for them. We suffered infertility for years, can't imagine how you go through it in the public eye.

I loath the Tories but I always thought he seemed a nice chap. Just want to give them both a hug-must be getting soft in my old ageBlush

sorrento56 · 01/09/2010 18:01

I think his statement was very good in so much as it states the facts without going ott. It made me quite teary tbh.

It is interesting to see how the Hagues live their live and how the Blairs do with TB all over the news today and how it leaves a nasty taste in ones mouth but the Hague's situation leaves a feeling of sadness for them.

traceybath · 01/09/2010 18:02

How awfully sad - have always rather liked William Hague - he's a very good speaker in my opinion.

And god - I thought it was quite common place to share rooms on business trips nowadays to cut costs.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 01/09/2010 18:03

he really shouldn't have to defend why him and his wife don't have children. It isn't an indication of being homosexual in itself.

SauvignonBlanche · 01/09/2010 18:05

I hate Willian Hague, never imagined I'd actually feel sorry for him, but I do.

mummytime · 01/09/2010 18:05

I wonder why just about everyone is accussed of being a closet homosexual. And having kids is no protection (I've heard rumours about Gordon Brown).

I just think there must be some straight MPs.

I do feel very sorry for William and Ffione.

squeaver · 01/09/2010 18:06

Yes, of course, ilove. But there has also been a lot of on-going speculation about their marriage and "childlessness" is often media shorthand for "sham marriage"....

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/09/2010 18:07

Blimey, what a crappy thing to have to deal with.

I like Hague - he is on my list as one of the few tory politicians I would rescue from a siking boat - and this must have been hidoesu for them both to deal with.

DinahRod · 01/09/2010 18:10

Sad he felt he had to justify their childless state and talk about something so painful, some things should be allowed to remain private.

franke · 01/09/2010 18:10

Milamae just to pick up on your point - up until today he wasn't going through it in the public eye. He has been forced into the position of revealing the most private of details of his and his wife's life. I feel very sad and angry for them.

I'm not sure why he felt the need to make that personal statement and why Christopher had to resign.

FortunateHamster · 01/09/2010 18:21

It makes me sad and angry that he had to speak about their infertility and loss in order to stop the rumours. As someone who went through infertility, I ache at thinking about having to tell the whole world about it.

noddyholder · 01/09/2010 18:27

Shocking articleSad

Ephiny · 01/09/2010 18:38

That's awful, it's not anyone's business but their own - the state of their relationship, his sexuality, their fertility issues.

I really wish the media would stop with this 'accusing' people of being gay - as though it's a crime or something - what century are we living in again?
