its terrible isnt it? shes still in intensive care- can you imagine what she has to wake up to? feel really sorry for her

This is awful. I live not too far away from the area where this happened. We drive past it every day when we visit MIL. There's something not quite right about it somehow..I can't explain what I mean, only that the witnesses on TV are saying some very strange things. I get the feeling there's some suspicion about the mum's story but that might be because she only lived there for 6 weeks so no one really knows her.

It's a terrible area. Really run down, practically a slum. It's appalling that women and children get put in these places.

who would tie up a mother with 2 babies in the house then set fire to it - sick scum!

I did hear today that the a woman in her 20's had been arrested in connection with the murder of the baby (though it said not the Mom)....the pictures of the little boy just made me cry and cry...

How awful

THe Mum is out of hospital now, I don't think she was injured that badly at all. I just can't imagine how helpless she must have felt when her wee baby stopped crying. They punched and hit her unconcious!!

i assumed one of the men must be the babies dad but it says not. makes it less comprehensible and so much more scary

I thought it was charitable housing run for girls with young babies - a kind of young mum help service.
It made my blood run cold, absolutely appalling thing to do to someone, to prevent a mother from protecting her baby. In a way I'd prefer there to be another explanation because who who who would do that to someone?

Mt, I thought that about the news report, they used the word 'supposedly' or something. It's truly awful and shocking this, tragic.

I thought the same thing as Monkeytrousers - there's a funny whiff to it somehow. I'm in no way suggesting that she deserved what happened, but it somehow has the marks of a 'hit' rather than a more random attack. Even the police have been talking about something in her past, perhaps someone with a grudge... Pretty hideous though.

Report
caligula · 31/08/2005 10:14

Must be a hell of a grudge then.

They're now saying they've arrested a second woman.

bbc link

Not very clear report though.

Toothache · 31/08/2005 10:33

Grudge or no grudge it is a horrendous thing to happen to anyone regardless of what she has done in the past!!!!

Report
RedZuleika · 31/08/2005 11:14

Perhaps it's more what someone perceives she's done, rather than any action of hers.

I used to work with a bloke who had what we might euphemistically call unsavoury connections. He told me that you could get someone bumped off for a couple of grand. Apart from the fact that I wasn't very comfortable working / socialising with someone who I KNEW had information of interest to the police, I couldn't get over how comparatively CHEAP two grand was for a life.

Just makes you feel sick doesn't it!

Can't even begin to imagine what the mother must be feeling like, she must be numb. and what that poor little baby must've had to endure.
Not nice thoughts at all

No matter how much you hated someone, how could you do that to someone to tiny, helpless and completely innocent

There has to be some other explanation, I mean even the worst killers often draw the line at hurting children, look at that shooting in London last weekend at the christening.
The whole thing is just a total tragedy whatever has happened.

monkeytrousers · 31/08/2005 12:58

There was a rumour here that the child was hurt before the fire. I don't know where it came from. DP told me.

OMG. This world seems to get worse every day. Watched the programme on Beslam last night too. Anyone who hurts a child- speechless.
