Fledgling Flyers - Mad as March Hares

MiniMarmite · 26/02/2010 20:07

Welcome to the spring(ish) edition of the fledgling flyers.

Some of us will be flapping falteringly and others flying faultlessly towards making our homes look perennially spring cleaned!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on March 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Hop along to reserve your place...

PA - it's allgone quiet here as everyone is eating your choc oaties - yum . Now only half left! Honestly, my lot are such greedy pigs!!
SR - well done on rediscovering your head voice!! Your DC seem to get a awful lot of homework! Maybe I don't give my Y3/4 enough??

No wine for me as I've still got to pick DH up from the station. He hasn't been home before 9pm all week and Not his fault though....

See you all tomorrow...

MrsDinky · 24/03/2010 21:59

Evening all.

Nice day here today, not much Flying as such, but kept up with stuff did some gardening and baking with DD (BTW thanks for the oatie recipe PA I shall note it down). We made low fat brownies with prunes instead of butter and very nice they are too.

DD of course not at all unwell following last night's vomit in the dinner incident, it was simpy a reflection of what she thought of that particular meal, a shame as the rest of us liked it.

I have tonight cleared my ironing pile, nearly cleared my sewing pile and had a thorough clear out of my sewing box.

I have also laughed till tears ran down my face at the thread about Nightmare Incident with Neighbours Parcel (in Classics) - if any of you need cheering up in any way tonight I highly recommend it!

feetheart · 24/03/2010 22:00

Most of choc oaties gone here, even DS who isn't much of a biscuit and cake boy came back and asked for another one

PA - love the quotes

SC - early nights not that impressive, have been falling asleep on sofa and lack of sleep is making me grumpy. I need to have more sleep!

optimistic - good luck with Couch Potato. I did it this time last year and to my HUGE surprise I enjoyed it and I'm still running.
at bucket as an insurance policy

Morning routine - done
2 mins Hotspot - think I forgot!
Bathroom - done sort of!
Hoover living room, hall and stairs - done hall and stairs
Ring agent - rang several in the end
Ring list of others re letting flat - done
15 mins in Bedroom - done
Deliver leaflets after school with DC - done
Afternoon routine - done
Evening routine - done
Another early night - about to.............

Not a bad day!

Auntie Trisha's Honey and Oat biscuits as promised:
Melt 4oz butter and 4oz sugar.
Stir in 1 teasp honey and 1 teasp bicarb then add 4oz SR flour and 4oz oats
Make into little balls (makes about 24), flatten slightly and bake for 10mins at 170C

Night night

optimisticmumma · 24/03/2010 22:18

MrsDinky - I read that pouffe of poo thread too and was crying with laughter! My DD thought I had finally gone mad!
It was even funnier when I took a look at the pouffe and agreed with most posters that it was hideous!

MiniMarmite · 24/03/2010 22:34

Oops, sorry ladies, slightly disasterous day today so decided to console myself with some internet shopping and bought myself some new clothes ...will have to catch up with the thread properly tomorrow ...posting tomorrow's steps in a few minutes and then good night x

Morning Ladies

The babystep today is to read about how the FLYing routines developed. I think this one is a bit more reassuring than the B&B one from last week - FLYlady is human after all!

We're in the Master Bedroom this week for decluttering and the missions.

I must refocus my decluttering - I took a bag of things to the charity shop today but all from the wrong room! Oh, I'm such a great example .

Have a great day everyone.

missbennett · 24/03/2010 22:40

Evening! Just been to a fabulous concert at school DD1 singing and playing and i think though tired it did her good.
DD2 cheery too - let's hope she stays that way!
Will be trying recipes at the wekend pa and feetheart pa have tried the email again - had put in an etra 'n'. Think the poster is a definite for you!
feetheart occured to me today - we have a notice board at work (part of email setup) where one section is property to let - all sorts goes on there - holiday and living accomodation - not sure if you are in paid work but if not maybe a friend/partner has something similar? (Or if you would be interested and it's not too forward of me I could post at work for you? As you're fairly local)
No flying today apart from routines, but all seems fairly calm here and DH had a good birthday I think his football team won anyway
Waves goodnight to all.

PositiveAttitude · 25/03/2010 07:27

Good Morning ladies,

Not feeling quite so bright and breezy as I was yesterday. I had a far better nights sleep than I have for months, but that always leaves me feeling rough!!

Very glad the oaties have been a hit.

mm - Hope your disasterous day was helped by the internet shopping.

Feetheart - I will be trying out your biscuits today.

MrsD - Sounds as if you accomplished a lot yesterday, well done! >

SR - I hope DD is fully recovered after a good nights sleep.

MissB - Received, will be in touch.

Waves to frazzled PW Aberita LPP SC Ellie Chairmum PMPY and have we lost MrsGok?

I am not sure that I am going to be getting a lot done today. Yet another meeting this afternoon (Oh how I hate these) with DD3. I SHOULD hoover the hallway/stairs and landing.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

missbennett · 25/03/2010 08:05

Stillcounting · 25/03/2010 08:50

Morning all. Another sunny day and have two loads of washing drying on the terrace.

Hope all those under the weather + dps/dhs/dcs are feeling a bit better today

Well done with on the singing front SC Could that be the cause of your sore throat today perhaps? Hope you manage to fight off the microbes anyway.

Up (unintentionally) with a lark at 5.30 am. Not a lark actually but a bird that sits very near our open window and goes "beep, beep, beep, beep" very loudly and in a very mechanically repetitive way. I'd love to know what it is. Sounds just like an alarm clock!

Morning routine, including shiny sink, wm on, dw on done
Clean out gps done
Small supermarket shop done
Cleaning bathroom and master bedroom today
and have to finish tidying both first
Still struggling with the paperwork
Veggie night tonight - veggie cous-cous
Must do meal planning in general
Plus on-line supermarket shop

A hairdresser that comes to you sounds wonderfully relaxing MissB

Fingers and toes crossed for your meeting today PA

Lovely biscuit recipe and yours too Feetheart - trying to resist because I know I will eat them all

Hope you have a better day today Mini-M Optimistic how about a range of buckets in different colours to match that day's outfit?? And OH YES to six pack body massage bloke [race you to the spa]. Hope your dh manages to get home a bit earlier tonight.

Waves to MrsDinky, Frazzled, Aberita, Pushme, PurpleWednesday, Elliepac, and everyone I've missed

And where's MummyD?? I WANT MY MUMMY!

Stillcounting · 25/03/2010 08:52

Correction

Third paragraph intended for SwanR not myself!!

pushmepullyou · 25/03/2010 09:07

Morning all

Sorry to hear you're feeling under the weather PA ans SR. I'm feeling a bit rubbish this morning too. Tired and headachey, think it's 16 months of sleep deprivation finally catching up!

Chocoloate oaties sound wonderful. Sorry I missed them!

Lots to do (paid work and flying) and only 3 hours to do it. Going away for a long weekend tomorrow so it needs to be done today as well. Eek! Anyway here we go....

put away washing
empty dishwasher and restack
clean kitchen floor
wipe kitchen sides
Go to supermarket
write packing list for weekend
pack for me
pack for DD (DH can pack for himself!)
Finish paid work report
tidy living room
empty car boot
pack car with holiday stuff

Sure there's loads of other things, but that'sll have to do for now

swanriver · 25/03/2010 09:14

I need to do following in 30 mins (spurred on by PMPY and SC)
breakfast things
hoover playroom
make beds
load dw
worktops/table

bb30mins then off to work

MrsDinky · 25/03/2010 09:29

Morning all

SR - gargling with soluble aspirin alwasy helps my sore throats. PMPY and PA hope you feel better soon too.

PA - thank you for NOT mentioning the football. Still, I should know tomorrow if I've got my ticket for Wembley.

SC - is it a blackbird? Maybe PA could lend you that broom she used to use to shove pigeons off her satellite dish with.

MiniM - there's nothing like a bit of online retail therapy is there?

Today

Just lots of todying really, have friends coming round tomorrow straight from school run, so need to get the place shipshape today. Have freecycled a few things this week, need to charity shop a few more, also off for a haircut later. Off now to update myself on the pouffe of poo....

aberita · 25/03/2010 09:35

Morning everyone,

It sounds like a few of us are feeling under the weather this morning - I also woke up with a sore throat and the feeling that I was coming down with a cold, which I'm attempting to stave off with echinacea and it seems to be working - so I hope everyone is feeling better soon. Despite going to bed two hours earlier last night than the night before, I'm definitely more lacking in energy than I was yesterday morning but I'm hoping that a coffee will help! I'm also planning on trying out your oaties recipe PositiveAttitude as soon as I've converted the oz to g but that shouldn't take long. The worst recipes to convert are American ones - I can never remember how much a stick of butter weighs, and measuring butter out in cups gets quite messy too.

DD1 has been invited to a friend's house after school, which means I'm child-free until 3 pm and no work on at the moment either - so no excuses today! At least I've already done today's mission; I would have preferred not to do it at 10 pm, but DS goes to sleep in our bed and I forgot to put a nappy on him last night.

To do today:

Morning routine almost done
Tidy/declutter DC's bedrooms
Missions from earlier in the week
Invoice
Send DD1's Easter cards

It may seem like a short list, but I could spend hours in the DC's rooms...

Oh, and not forgetting:
coffee and oaties

purplewednesday · 25/03/2010 09:42

Morning Ladies!

Last night:
read DD1 school book done
finished yesterdays laundry done

Today:
School run done
Hang washing out done
load dishwasher done

MUST BRUSH THE CATS TODAY. they are only short haired bog standard moggies but they are making a right royal mess.

Don't let me back here until I have brushed them.....

TTFN

PS feetheart - love the sound of the biscuits - will try and make some this week

needanightoutsoon · 25/03/2010 09:47

hello everyone !,

sorry ive not been on for quite a few days we all had coughs, colds, earache etc all generally under the weather, me although poorly had to keep the ship afloat, be nursemaid and keep up with housework as usual .

Hope everyone is keeping well anything ive missed ?

we are considering moving house so got some serious pro and con lists to write, currently in a three bed with 2 boys sharing however we have found a four bed in our area and so been on the google maps checking oout the streets, i know it would be worth the extra room but moving with three children ahhhhh!

although could move them into mothers for a few days hmmm.......x

Littlepurpleprincess · 25/03/2010 09:53

Todays list:

Morning Routine done
School run done
Go to bank done
Food shopping done (and never going to co-op again, SO EXPENSIVE!)
Cancel car insurance done
Tidy lounge
Declutter some more of bedroom
school run
oooh this list is endless and that's only half my day, can I go back to bed?

swanriver · 25/03/2010 09:53

oops, 30 mins up
done a LOT, but kitchen still a bit vile
(closes door and rushes out of house)
hi - Nanos and Purple Aberita garlic is helping but will have to avoid people - & dd spent night in our bed too

TALLULAHBELLE · 25/03/2010 10:03

Hi - I was on the Feb thread before. Am now in Oz. Really just want to get started again. At the moment I have a house completely free of clutter. However, that's because all my crap worldly goods are on a boat heading this way. I am ever hopeful that I can keep on top of the junk once all the boxes arrive.

aberita · 25/03/2010 10:05

needanightoutsoon Sorry to hear you've all been ill. So frustrating how we mothers have to carry on as normal though - DH was ill last week and just took to his bed for three days.
We're in a similar position to you house-wise. We're in a three-bedroom terrace which does have a third floor but it just gets too hot up there in the summer to have a bedroom on the top floor all year round. DH has just e-mailed me details of a detached house with a very similar layout - slightly bigger, but I'm not sure whether it's big enough to justify the move (it does have other advantages too). I'm not sure I could face the stress of a move with three children either though - my parents live in another country (we're in Austria), and otherwise elderly in-laws not in the best of health a few hours away...

swanriver Your playroom obviously isn't as bad as ours if you can manage to hoover the floor!

swanriver · 25/03/2010 11:35

Back home unexpectedly (they needed the library for a meeting)
have extra half hour to spend on kitchen

TODO
worktops
floors
sink
rubbish
bb 30 mins

feetheart · 25/03/2010 12:16

Think I'm going to really struggle today as tried early night but couldn't sleep (too many things going round in my head) so got up, wrote a list and worked my way through it! Finally got to bed at 2.30am then read for while to wind down. Three hours later (at 6am so at least not 4.15!) I was awake again
I do have occasional nights like that but on top of the stupid o'clock early mornings I've been having it is getting beyond a joke.
Saying that I have got a lot done!

In middle of night:

  • Emailed photos to agent
  • Emailed big church re my flat (had spoken to them earlier in day)
  • Emailed School Assoc committee re Boot sale
  • Letter and card to friend for anniversary of her DS's death tomorrow

So far today:

  • Got DC up, dressed and to school with nagging but no shouting - an achievement most days but amazing today
  • Work - how I have managed to cope with Sage on 3 hrs sleep I have no idea, either I am getting to grips with it or it will come back to haunt me later

Need to do

  • Morning routine (well something had to slip )
  • 2 mins Hotspot
  • Make more chocolate oaties as requested by whole family. In my defense I did only make half quantity to try it out
  • clean bath and windowsill
  • hoover living room
  • Tumble Tots with DS
  • 15 mins paperwork
  • Afternoon routine
  • Make DC cream cheese and ham pasta for tea as its easy
  • Evening routine
  • Out for dinner with DH - he said we didn't have to go if I didn't want to, I told him we had a babysitter and we were damn well going. Were supposed to go to a networking-type dinner. Have decided to skive and go to Cafe Rouge by ourselves instead A full belly and a glass of wine might sort out the sleep.

Best get on, its a rather house-proud friend who is babysitting - eek
