Kids is monthly!! TWhy would kids need it more they don't even sweat!

nickytwotimes · 08/10/2009 15:27

Once a week, us and ds.
I once visibly balked at a friend who said she changed hers every 2-3 weeks.
It must be STINKING.
You lose pints of sweat in bed over a week.

StealthPolarBear · 08/10/2009 15:34

every weekend or if absolutely no time then mid that week and then 2 weekends later - so 10ish day gaps

Alibooobaandthe40phantoms · 09/10/2009 00:42

whoisasking - I would do the same. DH thinks I'm bonkers and complains that it's not green, blah blah.

The thought though of clean, freshly washed and ironed bedding every day - that someone else had done - is utter bliss.

Getorf - do you iron it all or just shove it on out of the dryer?

colditz · 09/10/2009 00:48

Do you know...

I genuinely don't know

DorotheaPlentighoul · 09/10/2009 08:56

We aim for every week but in reality it's more like 2-3 weeks but I do change the pillowcases every 4 or 5 days because I think that makes a big difference.

If there is "action" or illness, I will change sooner.

For us it's partly a laundry issue we don't have a tumble dryer, so everything has to be hung dry on a pulley on the ceiling of our flat. I do laundry most days, and never catch up sheets make the laundry pile even more depressingly huge!

I am much more quick to launder towels -- I hate them to be even a tiny bit "old".

notanidea · 09/10/2009 16:44

thanks - can go teo weeks then.Haver called in the engineer wait and see.{grin]

At least once a week for us and every couple of days for DS2. But he has horrible eczema so I am not OCD honest.

I was in hospital with DD for 6 weeks once and when we got home OH hadnt changed the bed once. It was vile. There was a sort of browny grey oval shape in the middle of the bed like someone had died in it.

It had not even crossed his mind to change it. I have never recovered.

LilianGish · 09/10/2009 17:21

Aim for once a week, but don't have a specific day so could be longer. We all have baths every night so shouldn't really be that dirty in theory. In your situation would probably just try to stick it out. I was without my machine not long ago and made everything (except underwear and socks!) last much longer between washes. Thought I might continue this policy even with new machine, but for some reason I just can't!

gremlindolphin · 13/10/2009 13:08

dh wants it done every week but I probably do it every 2 to 3 weeks.

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/10/2009 13:14

Ali - gawd no I don't iron the bloody things, they get folded up as soon out of the dryer/off the line and put in airing cupboard. I like to change my sheets every day, but I wouldn't like to iron all these sheets every week, I am not demented!

TheCappster · 13/10/2009 13:17

Get a life, people. Twice-monthly bedding changes are not tantamount to living in squalor.

I do it fortnightly. I realise this makes me a stinky minger in your eyes but I did a bit of research when dh developed asthma and I didn't find any reason to do it more than that.

Previous generations used to rotate the top and bottom sheets - using a top sheet, then after a week or two putting it onto the bed as a bottom sheet and adding just a fresh top sheet. Nobody died. I bet if you were all using a wringing board and mangle to do your washing every week then you wouldn't be quite so squeamish.

I've been criticised on here for using a top sheet, because it's 'weird' - despite all these people who change their bedding once or twice a week being happy to rub their sweaty feet against the duvet cover with just one thin layer of cotton between them and the duvet itself

purpleturtle · 13/10/2009 13:26

Fortnightly here too. Our KS bed one week, 3 children's beds the next. That way I can attempt to keep on top of the laundry mountain.

janmoomoo · 14/10/2009 17:46

I cant believe people change their bed twice a week - think of the environmental impact, and its completely unnecessary. And where do you find the time?

Do mine every two to three weeks.

lynniep · 14/10/2009 17:51

er, not terribly often. probably monthly. and we use two beds at the moment cos DH shifts into the spare room cos I'm a noisy, restless, smelly bint when I'm pregnant so I've lost track a bit as I cant do both in one go.
DS's bedding is washed a lot more often. His room is cleaned a lot more often too

ChristieF · 15/10/2009 12:53

Change beds once a week. Got to think about killing dust mites. One of life's small pleasures to get into fresh bedding. Elton John has his changed every day. But then he's got someone to do it for him. I'm a bit shocked about only once a month.

ChristieF · 15/10/2009 12:56

Also I'm sure Kim said on TV that each adult sweats a pint a night onto the sheets. never mind the skin lost. Yikes! I also use a top sheet though not for hygiene reasons. My two DSs don't have flt sheets but my bed does. It stops the duvet rolling off the bed and when you kick off the duvet because you're too hot you have a light cover. Stops the monster under the bed getting you.

dotty2 · 15/10/2009 13:06

We have recently begun a once a week regime after previously being a bit more, ermm, haphazard after DD1 (4) said "why does your bed sometimes smell funny?". The shame...

nigelslaterfan · 15/10/2009 13:12

Every two weeks if I'm honest!
Often it's a bit less than that, probably more like 10 days

fluffles · 15/10/2009 13:16

once a fortnight roughly, though also immediately after anybody has had a cold or spilled anything or even just had a bad night tossing and turning.
sometimes longer in winter when we're wearing lots of clothes in bed [we don't heat the bedroom].

lilysam · 15/10/2009 17:59

Every 2-3 weeks - do you lot sleep naked??

As someone else said, shower or bath daily, clean pjs on every couple of days...so how dirty can the bed get realistically (with lack of bedroom action )??

Is not the changing thats the pain, its the mountain of washing and drying it causes...

halfcut · 15/10/2009 18:00

When I can be arsed

TettyLouBar · 16/10/2009 09:57

When I have the time/inclination/remember!!! probably in reality 3-4 weekly?!?

Unless its for medical reasons (i.e. asthma) I really dont see the point in washing your bedding so frequently. Personally I think its enough to wash/shower/bath daily and wear clean bed clothes.

ADifferentMe · 17/10/2009 18:23

Every two to three weeks - nothing ever happens to make it necessary!

In RL, of course, I would say weekly if asked

bellavita · 17/10/2009 18:32

TheCapster - I use a top sheet

But, I do change my bedding every week. The boys used to be every 7-10 days, but they now have studio bunks and do not have a top sheet (just a duvet), then they too are changed weekly too.

So, you people that change their sheets monthly - you sleep in bed for a minimum of say 6 hours a night, every night... >
